Türkiye’de çim pist koşuları mart ayında başlamış olsa da yeni sezon, Nisan’ın ikinci haftasıyla birlikte 7 hipodromda yeniden açılacak. Yıl boyunca koşulacak 37 grup 1 yarışın 25’i çim pistte ve kuşkusuz en önemlisi 27 Haziran tarihinde koşulacak Gazi Koşusu.

Geçen yıl sadece Gazi Koşusu için kısıtlı sayıda izleyici kabul edilen ülkemizde at yarışları, dünya genelinde olduğu gibi seyircisiz koşuluyor. Bu nadide safkanları padok ve yarışlarda canlı olarak izlemek, bu görsel şölene ortak olmak hepimizin ortak dileği olsa da kısa vadede maalesef zor gözüküyor.

With the start of the Spring / Summer racing season in Europe, we begin to watch grass track, and therefore faster races. Turf season means a lot for horse racing industry members, with its image coloring effect, and also the turf season means that we will watch some better races as better horses in Europe tend to run on turf.

Although turf races have started in Turkey in March, the new season will start in the second week of April in the 7 racecourses in Turkey. 25 of 37 G1 races in Turkey are running on turf and also the most important race of Turkey, the Turkish Derby also runs on turf. Last year the Turkish Derby ran with a limited racing-crowd and this year the racing season continues without a racing-crowd. Although it is our common wish to watch these rare thoroughbreds live in paddocks and be a part of these “visual feast” races, it looks very hard in the short term.

Saudi Cup ve Dubai World Cup festivallerinde birer günlük de olsa iyi atları izlemek büyük keyifti ama seyircisiz bir Dubai World Cup alışık olduğumuz gösterişinden çok uzaktı. Festivalle ilgili ayrıntılı bilgileri dergimizde bulabilirsiniz.

Hükümet tarafından izin verilmesiyle birlikte mart ayında başta TJK Olağan Genel Kurulu olmak üzere TYAYSD Olağanüstü Tüzük Tadili Genel Kurulu ve TYAYSD’nin tüm şubelerinde seçimli olağan genel kurullar yapıldı. Bizler de BOSPHORSE ailesi olarak, 4. kez Türkiye Jokey Kulübü Başkanı seçilen Serdal Adalı başta olmak üzere TJK Yönetim, Disiplin ve Denetim Kurulu üyelerine ve TYAYSD şube seçimlerini kazananlara görevlerinde başarılar dileriz.

-It was a great pleasure to watch smart horses at the Saudi Cup and Dubai World Cup festivals, albeit for one day, but a Dubai World Cup without an audience was far from the show we are used to. You can read every detail of these festival in our Magazine. TJK imported stallions, Daredevil and Super Saver started the new season very well in the USA. We also provide you the details of these races and an analysis of other international races. Our exclusive interviews with the artist, horse breeder and owner Emre Karayel, the Turkish trainer in Australia, Aşkın Yargı, will make you look at horse racing from different aspects. With the permission of the government in March, the Ordinary General Assembly of the TJK, the General Assembly of the Extraordinary Regulations of the TYAYSD and the elected ordinary general assemblies in all branches of the TYAYSD were held. SERDAL ADALI GÜVEN TAZELEDİ SERDAL ADALI REFRESHES TRUST Türkiye Jokey Kulübü Seçimli Olağan Genel Kurul toplantılarını 24-25 Mart tarihlerinde gerçekleştirdi.

The Jockey Club of Turkey held its Ordinary Elective General Assembly on 24-25 March.

TJK Derneği ve İktisadi İşletmelerinin 2021 yılı bütçe ve 2020 yılı faaliyetlerinin görüşüldüğü ilk gün, 56 üyenin katılımıyla tamamlandı. TJK Genel Sekreteri Ahmet Özbelge’nin ayrıntılarıyla sunduğu 2020 yılı faaliyetleri oylanarak Yönetim Kurulu ibra edildi ve 2021 yılı bütçeleri de oy birliğiyle onandı.

2020 yılında yaşanan pandemiye rağmen, sektörel gelişmeler arasında en dikkat çekici ve belirleyici %18,35 artış oranıyla 8.243.794.843 TL’ye ulaşan müşterek bahis satışları oldu. Koronovirüs sebebiyle verilen 82 günlük ara sonrası, yarış ikramiyelerinde ve at sahibi primlerindeki artış, ayrıca tüm koşularda beşinciye de ikramiye verilmeye başlanmasıyla birlikte yaşanan değişim sonucu, 2020 yılı için yaklaşık 710 milyon TL olarak planlanan yarış ikramiyelerinin, yıl sonunda 736 milyon TL’ye ulaştığı vurgulandı.

2020 yılında 735.931.409 TL olan yarış ikramiyesi ve yetiştiricilik primleri, 2021 yılı bütçesinde %36,83’lük artışla, 1.007.000.000 TL olarak yer aldı. TJK’nın Daredevil, Super Saver, Authorized, Myboycharlie, Bodemeister, Victoire Pisa ve Kluger isimli aygırları için onaya sunulan sigorta bedelleri de oybirliği ile kabul edildi.

The first day of the discussion of the 2021 budget and 2020 activities of the TJK Association and Economic Enterprises was completed with the participation of 56 members. The 2020 activities presented with every detail by TJK General Secretary Ahmet Özbelge and were voted on and the Board of Directors was acquitted and the budgets for 2021 were unanimously approved.

Despite the pandemic in 2020, the most striking and determining factor among the sectoral developments was the joint bet sales reaching 8,243,794,843 TL with an increase of 18.35%. After the obligatory delay that was caused by the pandemic, the total prize-money for the race reached TL 736,000,000, instead of the previously planned amount (TL 710,000,000), thanks to increased prize-money and owner premiums and prize-money for 5th place holders.

The racing prize-money and breeding premiums, which were 735,931,409 TL in 2020, took place in the 2021 budget as 1,007,000,000 TL, with an increase of 36.83%. Insurance fees submitted for approval for stallions named Saver, Authorized, Myboycharlie, Bodemeister, Victoire Pisa and Kluger were also unanimously accepted.

Başkan, Yönetim Kurulu ve diğer organların seçimi için yapılan oylamada 105 oy geçerli sayıldı. 63 oy alan Serdal Adalı, 4. kez TJK başkanlığına seçildi. Diğer aday Cüneyt Çalıcıoğlu 42 oy aldı. Serdal Adalı sonuçlar açıklandıktan sonra yaptığı konuşmada camiaya birliktelik mesajı vererek; "Herkese çok teşekkür ediyorum. Her zaman olduğu gibi herkesin başkanı olmaya devam edeceğim. Bu süreçten sonra, atçılık camiamızı nasıl daha ileriye götürebileceğimize odaklanacağız. Sevgilerimi ve saygılarımı sunuyorum." dedi.

Serdal Adalı başkanlığındaki Yönetim Kurulu; Adil Mert Kaya (57 oy), Ahmet Özbelge (52 oy), Tuğban İzzet Aksoy (46 oy), Hakan Yücetürk (40 oy), Gülnur Gülerce (35 oy) ve Şükrü Erdem’den (34 oy) oluştu. Yüksel Göktürk (32 Oy), S. Selman Taşbek (23 oy), Can N. Güven (21 oy), Faruk Tınaz (17 oy) ve M. Kerem Alkan (15 oy) kurulun yedek üyeliklerine seçildiler.

Denetim Kuruluna; Armağan Turhan (88 oy), Nisso Benhason (61 oy) ve Ferhat Oktay (60 oy) seçilirken Disiplin Kurulu Üyeleri Murat Kadaifçioğlu (78 oy), Aslan Savaşan (76 oy), Mustafa Doruk yılmaz (72 oy), Hakan Sabri Özcan (66 oy) ve Ateş Saltukoğlu’ndan (65 oy) oluştu. Türkiye Jokey Kulübü’nün Başkanı, Yönetim Kurulu ve diğer organları 3 yıl süreye görev yapıyorlar.

Kulüp üyeliği için başvuran adaylardan Mehmet Sencer Girgin, yeterli oy sayısına ulaşarak üyeliğe kabul edildi.

SECOND DAY 108 members attended the second day of the Assembly. 105 votes were deemed valid in the voting for the election of the Chairman, Board of Directors and other members. Serdal Adalı received 63 votes and was elected as the president of TJK for the fourth time. The other candidate Cüneyt Çalıcıoğlu received 42 votes. Serdal Adalı gave a message of unity to the community in his speech after the results were announced and said: “I thank everyone. As always, I will continue to be the president of everyone. After this process, we will focus on how we can move our horse racing industry forward. I present my love and respect.”

The Board of Directors headed by Serdal Adalı; Adil Mert Kaya (57 votes), Ahmet Özbelge (52 votes), Tuğban İzzet Aksoy (46 votes), Hakan Yücetürk (40 votes), Gülnur Gülerce (35 votes) and Şükrü Erdem (34 votes). Yüksel Göktürk (32 votes), S. Selman Taşbek (23 votes), Can N. Güven (21 votes), Faruk Tınaz (17 votes) and M. Kerem Alkan (15 votes) were elected as substitute members of the board.

Armağan Turhan (88 votes), Nisso Benhason (61 votes) and Ferhat Oktay (60 votes) were voted for the the Supervisory Board and Murat Kadaifçioğlu (78 votes), Aslan Savaşan (76 votes), Mustafa Doruk Yılmaz (72 votes), Hakan Sabri Özcan (66 votes) and Ateş Saltukoğlu (65 votes) were selected as the Disciplinary Board Members.

Mehmet Sencer Girgin, one of the candidates who applied for club membership, reached a sufficient number of votes and was accepted to be a member.

TYAYSD ŞUBELERİNDE SEÇİM HEYECANI ELECTION EXCITEMENT AT TYAYSD BRANCHES

After the restrictions due to the pandemic, elected ordinary general assemblies were held in the branch offices of Turkey Race Horse Breeders and Owners Association (TYAYSD). As a result of the general assemblies held in a total of 6 branch offices, new presidents were elected in Adana and Bursa, while the other 4 branch offices decided to continue with the current presidents. TYAYSD branch offices and elected presidents were formed as follows; The current President Özcan Selik will enter the election, which will be held on 3 April in the İzmir Branch Office, as the only candidate. The President, who received full support from the association members, states that they renovated the TYAYSD clubhouse in the Izmir Racecourse and offered a comfortable area for horse owners to watch races.

Pandemi dolayısıyla yaşanan kısıtlamalar sonrası, Türkiye Yarış Atı Yetiştiricileri ve Sahipleri Derneği (TYAYSD) şubelerinde seçimli olağan genel kurullar yapıldı. Toplam 6 şubede yapılan genel kurullar sonucunda, Adana ve Bursa’da yeni başkanlar seçilirken, diğer 4 şube mevcut başkanlarla devam kararı verdi. TYAYSD şubeleri ve seçilen başkanlar şu şekilde oluştu;

ŞAMPİYONLAR ADLARIYLA YAŞAYACAK The Champions Will Live By Names

TİGEM'e Bağlı Eskişehir/Mahmudiye ilçesinde faaliyet gösteren Anadolu Tarım İşletmesi’nde bulunan bazı tavlaların isimleri, işletmede yetiştirilen şampiyon taylar ile işletmede damızlık olarak kullanılan aygır-kısrak soylarının isimleri ile değiştirildi.

The names of some stables in the Anatolian Agricultural Enterprise operating in the Eskişehir/Mahmudiye district of TİGEM were changed with the names of champion foals raised in the enterprise and with the names of stallion-mare breeds.

Dişi tayların bakıldığı tavla şampiyon kısrak Hayatım (Şövalye-Zehra.112/Taşkent), Erkek tayların tavlası tavla şampiyon at Yavuzhan (Hilalüzzaman.25-Kemiyetülırak.26/Alnasip), kısrakların bakıldığı bir tavlaya nice şampiyonların anne hattı olan Kemiyetülırak, aygır tavlasının ismi de nice şampiyon tayın pedigrilerinde yer alan baba hattı Hilalüzzaman olarak değiştirildi. Ayrıca tüm tavlalara, bu isimler ile ilgili ayrıntılı bilgileri içeren panolar asıldı.

Female horses’ stable renamed as Hayatım (Şövalye-Zehra.112/Taşkent), male horses’ stable renamed as Yavuzhan (Hilalüzzaman.25-Kemiyetülırak.26/Alnasip). Dam bloodline of many champions, the name of Kemiyetülırak was given to a stable full of broodmares and stallions’ stable renamed as Hilalüzzaman, the stallion that we see in the sire bloodline of many champions. Boards containing detailed information about these names were hung on all stables.

TÜRK ATÇILIĞINDA YENİ BİR UYGULAMA A NEW ERA IN TURKISH RACING

Yıllardır atçılığın en önemli gereksinimlerinden biri olarak gösterilen ama bir türlü hayata geçirilemeyen idman merkezi projesi, TJK yönetiminin yoğun gayreti ve Arif Kurtel’in öncülüğünde Karacabey’de faaliyete başladı. İki ayrı idman pistine sahip merkezde şu an sadece 1600 metre uzunluğunda, özel karışım ile hazırlanmış olan kum pistte atlar idman yapılabiliyor.

Geçtiğimiz günlerde, TJK eski başkanlarından aynı zamanda Gazi Koşusunu 3 kere kazanmış ve Abrek ile ülkemizi yurtdışında temsil etmiş Ahmet Cemal Kura’nın adının verildiği idman merkezinin 915.000 mt2’ye yayılan altyapısı ve içerisinde bulunan at hastanesinin yapımı TJK tarafından karşılanırken, 744 ahır kapasiteli üst yapısı ise eküriler tarafından inşa edilecek.

Amerikan tarzı 2 eküri bloğunda 80 atlık kapasitesinin çoğunluğunu 2 yaşlı tay olarak kullanan Kurtel ekürisi, idman merkezini şu an faal olarak kullanan tek eküri durumunda.

Ekibi için lojman ve sosyal alanlar inşa ederek çalışan memnuniyetini üst seviyede tutmayı hedefleyen eküri, aynı zamanda Fransız tarzı ahırların yapımına da tam hızla devam ediyor. Temiz havası, konumu ve pistleriyle dikkat çeken tesis, yakın zamanda açılması planlanan çalıştırıcı seyis okulu ile birlikte Türk atçılığının gelecekteki şampiyon taylarını çıkarmayı amaçlıyor.

The training center project, which has been considered as one of the most important requirements for the horse racing industry for years, started its activities in Karacabey under the intense effort of the TJK management and the leadership of Arif Kurtel. The facility has two separate training tracks, but only one of them is available for training right now, the one that is a 1600 meters long dirt track and is prepared with a special mixture.

The infrastructure of the training center is named after Ahmet Cemal Kura who won the Turkish Derby three times and represented our country abroad with Abrek. The construction fee of the horse hospital and all infrastructure in the 915.000 mt2 facility was defrayed by TJK. The superstructure with a capacity of 744 boxes will be built by the horse owners.

ABD’nin en önemli at yarışı ve en büyük spor etkinliklerinden G1 Kentucky Derby, 1 Mayıs Cumartesi günü Churchill Downs’ta koşulacak. 1875 yılından bu yana aralıksız olarak düzenlenen Kentucky Derby, ABD’nin en uzun soluklu spor etkinliği olarak da ayrı bir yere sahip. 3 yaşlı tayların katıldığı bu mücadele, triple crown’nın ilk ayağını oluşturuyor.

Triple crown bu yarış sonrası Preakness ve Belmont Stakes ile diğer ülkelerden farklı olarak, beş hafta gibi kısa bir sürede tamamlanıyor. Kum pistte 2000 metre mesafeli koşunun ikramiyesi 3 milyon dolar.

Horses must go through a difficult process to find a place in the Derby. The 3-year-olds to participate in the Kentucky Derby are determined by 46 high-level races in various countries, especially in the USA, from September to April. Thoroughbreds who take the first four places in these races have the chance to participate in the derby with the points they collect. With a rule introduced this year, thoroughbreds using Lasix are excluded from the list.

SHEIKH HAMDAN BIN RASHID AL MAKTOUM Atçılık dünyasının önemli isimlerinden Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, 75 yaşında hayatını kaybetti. Şeyh, 1971’den bu yana BAE Maliye Bakanlığı görevini yürütüyordu.

Aynı zamanda BAE Başbakan yardımcısı da olan Şeyh Hamdan, kardeşi Şeyh Muhammed ile birlikte ülkenin petrol kaynaklarını yönetmenin yanı sıra, yabancı yatırımları çekerek, Dubai’nin bölgesel bir finans merkezine dönüşümünü de sağladılar. İki kardeşin 1967 yılında, Newmarket’te izledikleri yarışlarla başlayan atçılık sevdası katlanarak büyüdü ve kısa sürede dünyanın tanınmış at sahipleri ve yetiştiricileri arasına girdiler.

Yarış ve yetiştiricilikte gösterdikleri bireysel gelişimlerle yetinmeyip, yaptıkları yatırımlar ve uygulamalarıyla Dubai’yi dünyanın önemli yarış merkezlerinden biri haline getirdiler.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, one of the important names in the horse racing world, died at the age of 75. The Sheikh has been the UAE Minister of Finance since 1971. Sheikh Hamdan, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, manages the country's oil resources along with his brother Sheikh Mohammed and also ensured the transformation of Dubai into a regional financial center by attracting foreign investments.

The passion of the two brothers, which started with the races they watched in Newmarket in 1967, grew exponentially and in a short time they became one of the world's well-known horse owners and breeders. They did not settle with individual progress they made in the racing and breeding area and made Dubai one of the most important race centers of the world with their investments and applications.

Sheikh Hamdan, owner of the blue silk shirt with white epaulets, founded Shadwell Racing in 1981. After purchasing the Shadwell mansion near Thetford in Norfolk in 1984, he also took the center stage in the breeding area and was later named the horse owner of the year for 9 times in England. He improved globally with his investments in Derrinstown Stud near County Kildare in Ireland, Shadwell Farm in Kentucky, and Australia and South Africa, and has become a recognized brand all over the world.

The trainer of the 4-year-old colt, Dan Blacker grabbed his first G1 victory with this one. Smooth Like Strait (Midnight Lute-Smooth as Usual/Flower Alley) finished second, head behind the winner, and Count Again’s (Awesome Again-Count To Three/Red Ransom) late attacks was only enough for the third place.

Koşu sonrası antrenör Blacker şunları söyledi: “İngiltere’den buraya geldiğimde kendime G1 koşu galibiyeti için 10 yıl zaman tanımıştım ve 9. yılda bunu başardım. G1 Santa Anita Handicap’ı Jokey Joel Rosairo’nun bindiği 4 yaşındaki Idol (Curlin-Marion Ravenwood/A. P. Indy), son metrelerdeki güçlü sprinti ile kazandı. Son koşusunda geçildiği Express Train’i çok iyi zamanlanmış bir sprint ile geçmeyi başaran Idol, ilk sınıf koşu galibiyetine de ulaştı.

2000 metre mesafede ve kum pistte koşulan Santa Anita Handicap’ta Express Train (Union Rags-I'm A Flake/Mineshaft) ikinci, Maxfield (Street Sense-Velvety/Bernardini) üçüncü oldu.

The 4-year-old Idol (Curlin-Marion Ravenwood/A. P. Indy) won the G1 Santa Anita Handicap under Joel Rosario with his late-surge. Joel Rosario timed Idol’s late attack perfectly to beat Express Kitty in the last strides and managed to score his first black-type winner. Express Train (Union Rags-I'm A Flake/Mineshaft) finished second and Maxfield (Street Sense-Velvety/Bernardini) finished third in the 2000-meter dirt contest.

İlk 800 metresi 47.12, ilk 1200 metresi 1:12.26 gibi çok sert tempolarla geçilen koşuda Idol son viraj dönülürken beşinciliğe girdi ve hızını artırdı. Son 200’e girilirken halen 5. durumda olan tay bu metrelerden sonra rakiplerini yakaladı ve son 20 metrede Express Train’e hakim olarak bu önemli mücadeleden birincilikle ayrıldı.

The race ran with splits of:22.82, 47.12, and 1:12.26, and Idol went to fifth place on the last bend. The colt was still in fifth place while passing the last furlong mark but with a perfectly-timed sprint, he managed to catch his rivals and asserted Express Train in the last 20 meters to win in the end.

Tiyatro sahnesi ve televizyon dizilerinde farklı karakterleri canlandıran Sanatçı Emre Karayel ile çok keyif aldığını söyleyerek sürdürdüğü atçılığı ve bazı yönlerden hayata bakışını konuştuk.

We talked with Emre Karayel, who played in many different roles as an actor, about his perspective on his daily life and his big enjoyment, horse racing.

ATLARLA NE ZAMAN TANIŞTINIZ? Atlarla, babamın yaşanmış hikayelerini dinleyerek, çocukluğumda tanıştım. Memleketimiz Adana Kadirli’de ailemizin atları varmış ve babam küçük çocukken iyi de at binermiş. Sonrasında dedem vefat ettikten sonra babaannem atların hepsini satmış. Babam bu atlarla maceralarını öyle bir anlatırdı ki sanki o anı yaşıyor gibi hissederdim. Hepsini isimleri ve özellikleriyle, tek tek gözlerinin içi parlayarak sayardı fakat hikâyenin ortalarında atlar satıldığı için çok hüzünlenirdi… Tabi ben hikâyenin sonu mutlu bitsin diye bekliyorum, o da öyle bitirirdi. “Annem tüm atları sattı ama bir sabah dışardaki seslere uyandım, koşarak dışarı çıktım bir baktım Doru Tay! Ahırının kapısını kırıp, bizim eve kadar gelmiş ve aşağıda kişneyip, sanki beni çağırıyor. Okşadım, sarıldım boynuna…” diye bağlayarak mutlu sonla bitirirdi hikâyeyi. Yani atçılık hikayem, at sevgim o zamanlarda başlıyor.

WHEN DID YOU MEET HORSES? I met horses in my childhood, listening to my father's lived stories. Our family had horses in our hometown, Adana Kadirli, and my father used to ride horses well when he was a little kid. Later, after my grandfather passed away, my grandmother sold all the horses. My father used to describe his moments with these horses in such a way that I felt as if I was living in that moment. He used to count them all with their names and specialties, one by one with his eyes shining, but in the middle of the story, he used to get very sad because the horses were sold…. Of course, I was waiting for the end of the story to end happily, and she ended it like that. He shouted: “My mother sold all the horses, but one morning I woke up to the sounds outside, ran out and looked and saw the bay foal! He broke the door of his barn, came to our house and neighed below as if calling me. I pet him and hugged his neck…” and finished the story with a good ending. So, my horse-related story, my love for horses started at that time.

AT SAHİBİ OLMAYA NASIL KARAR VERDİNİZ? Babamın anlattığı hikayeler beni o kadar çok etkilemiş olacak ki at alma niyetim her zaman vardı ama açıkçası yarış atı alırım diye hiç düşünmemiştim. 2010 yılında Demir Karahan, bana ve Metin Belekoğlu’na Velvet Green ile Lorna isimli 2 kısrak hediye edince ilk atlarımız oldular. Onların tayları sahaya gelinceye kadar bir de koşan atımız olsun istedik ve Serdal Adalı’dan Marla Singer’ı aldık. Böylece hem yetiştirici hem de at sahibi olarak atçılığa başladık.

HOW DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A HORSE OWNER? The stories my father told would have affected me so much that I always had the intention to buy a horse, but frankly, I never thought that I would buy a racehorse. In 2010, when Demir Karahan gifted me and Metin Balekoğlu 2 mares named Velvet Green and Lorna, they became our first horses. Until they came to the racecourse, we wanted to have a horse in training and purchased Marla Singer from Serdal Adalı. So we started our journey as breeders and horse owners at the same time.

BABANIZ, AT ALDIĞINIZI DUYDUĞUNDA NASIL BİR TEPKİ VERDİ?

Babam at aldığımı duyunca tabi çok mutlu oldu. Benim zaten asıl amacım Babamı padoğa çıkartmaktı. Atın kazanması ya da kaybetmesi önemli değil, babam padoğa çıksın, orada sanki atlarıyla tekrar buluşsun gibi bir düşünce vardı hep kafamda. Atlarımız pek iyi koşmuyordu ama Babam ilk defa bir atımızın yarışı için hipodroma geldiğinde, yarış öncesi onun heyecanını görmek, o anı yaşamak benim için çok özeldi. Raleyka isimli atımız yarış hayatındaki ilk ve tek yarışı o gün kazandı. Yarıştan sonra babam, padokta sevinçten çiftetelli oynuyordu.

Sanki çocukluk yıllarındaki atlarına kavuşmuş gibiydi.

Onu öyle görünce yaşadığım mutluluğu tarif edemem…

Gazi Koşusu’nu kazansam, bu kadar mutlu olabileceğimi sanmıyorum. İLK KAZANDIĞINIZ YARIŞTA SİZ NASIL BİR HEYECAN YAŞADINIZ? Aslında ilk aldığımız atımız Marla Singer hayatının ikinci yarışını kazanmıştı ama Babam’ın geldiği gün Raleyka ile kazandığımız koşu, benim aklımda hep ilk olarak kalacak.

O heyecan bambaşka bir duyguydu, karşılığı yok.

HOW DID YOUR FATHER REACT WHEN HE HEARD THAT YOU PURCHASED A HORSE? Of course, my father was very happy when he heard that I purchased a horse. My main purpose was to bring my father to the ring. It does not matter whether the horse wins or loses, I always had a thought in my mind as if my father should go to the ring, so there he can meet his horses again. Our horses were not running very well, but when my father came to the racetrack for the first time for one of our horses, and it was very special for me to see his excitement and live that moment before the race. Our horse named Raleyka won the first and only race in her racing life that day. After the race, my father was playing in the ring with joy. It was as if he came together with his childhood horses again. I cannot describe the happiness I experienced when I saw him like that. I don't think I could be this happy if I won the Turkish Derby.

HOW DID YOU FEEL IN YOUR FIRST VICTORY? In fact, our first horse, Marla Singer, won the second race of her life, but the race we won with Raleyka on the day my father came will always remain as the first in my mind. That excitement was a completely different emotion, it has no counterpart.

RALEYKA’NIN YETİŞTİRİCİSİ DE SİZDİNİZ. YETİŞTİRİCİLİK NASIL GİDİYOR? Yetiştiricilik çok keyifli bir iş ama iyi atı bulamazsan yorar insanı. O yüzden ben yeni at sahiplerine önce koşan bir at alıp o keyfi yaşadıktan sonra onlarla yetiştiriciliğe geçiş yapmalarını tavsiye ederim. Bizim yetiştiricilik maceramız biraz sancılı başladı. Lorna, Victory Gallop’tan gebeydi ama doğuma bir ay kala öldü. Velvet Green de bir türlü istediğimiz gibi olmadı.

YOU WERE ALSO THE BREEDER OF RALEYKA? AS A BREEDER, HOW IS IT GOING? Breeding is very enjoyable, but it will tire you if you cannot find a good horse. That's why I recommend new horse owners buy an in-running horse first and then switch to the breeding area with them. Our breeding adventures started a little bit clouded. Lorna was expecting a foal from Victory Gallop but died a month before the delivery. Velvet Green didn't turn out as we wanted, either.

YETİŞTİRİCİLİK SABIR İŞİ, NORMAL HAYATTA DA BU KADAR SABIRLI MISINIZ? Normal hayatta değildim ama atçılık bana sükunetle sabretmeyi, bir de yarış için dua etmeyi öğretti. ATLARINIZIN GERİDE KALAN 10 YILDAKİ PERFORMANSINDAN MEMNUN MUSUNUZ? Genel olarak baktığımızda, atlarımızın koşu hayatının süresi konusunda sıkıntı yaşıyoruz. Kiss Your Hands iyi bir attı, arızalandı. Marla yarış kazandıktan sonra sakatlandı. Sahaya yeni getirdiğimiz iyi bir erkek tayımız vardı hatta jokeyi bu çok sağlam bir at, 8-9 sene koşar dedi ama o da yarışmak istemedi. Bir ara olmuyor galiba bırakıyorum dedim. Bu sefer Vasily iyi koşup beni demoralize moddan çıkartarak atçılığa tekrar heveslendiren, heyecanlandıran bir at oldu. 1201 metre koşmaz diyorlardı, aksine hep uzun koştu. Evlilikte keramet vardır derler, işte biz de o yola girdikten sonra atlar da iyi koşmaya başladı. Evliliğin öncesinden başlayarak atlarımız iyi koşuyor. Hatta antrenörümüz, atların son zamanlardaki başarılarının bizimle değil, eşim Gizem ile alakalı olduğunu söylüyor.

O ZAMAN, EVLİLİK HAYATINIZI OLUMLU YÖNDE DEĞİŞTİRDİ DİYEBİLİR MİYİZ? Kesinlikle… Evlilik sürecine girdikten sonra hem işlerimde hem de atlarımın başarılarında gözle görülebilir iyiye gidiş var.

Evliliğimizde her şey yolunda gidiyor, çok mutluyum ve bunun hayatıma da pozitif olarak yansıdığını açıkça görebiliyorum.

HAYATINIZI ÜNİVERSİTE YILLARINDAKİ DÖNEMDE DEĞİŞTİRDİNİZ DİYEBİLİR MİYİZ? Gazi Üniversitesi İktisat bölümünde ilk derse girdiğimde etrafıma bir baktım ve “ben buradan mezun olunca ne olacağım” diye kendime sordum. O gün o işi yapmayacağıma karar verdim ama ne yapacağıma da henüz karar vermemiştim.

ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH THE PERFORMANCES OF YOUR HORSES IN THE PAST 10 YEARS? In general, we are having issues with the duration of the running life of our horses. Kiss Your Hands was a smart horse but got injured. Marla got injured after the race she won. We had a talented colt that we just brought to the track and the jockey said that he is a very strong horse, he will run for 8-9 years, but he did not want to race either. I almost surrendered at a point.

This time, Vasily ran well and got me out of demoralized mode, making me enthusiastic and excited again for horse racing. They used to say that he won’t run at even 1201 meters but he was running at much longer distances. It is said that there is a miracle in marriage, and after we entered that road, the horses started to run well. Our horses are running well, starting right before the marriage. In fact, our trainer says that the horses' recent success is not about us, but my wife Gizem.

CAN WE SAY THAT THE MARRIAGE HAS CHANGED YOUR LIFE IN A POSITIVE WAY? Absolutely. After getting in the marriage process, there is a visible improvement in both my work and the success of my horses. Everything is going well in our marriage, I am very happy and I can clearly see that this reflects positively on my life. As I said, I believe there is a miracle in marriage and I want to increase this happiness even more with a baby.

CAN WE SAY YOU CHANGED YOUR LIFE IN THE UNIVERSITY YEARS? When I entered the first lesson in the Department of Economics at the Gazi University, I looked around and asked myself NİSAN / APRIL

Şu an tiyatrolar kapalı olduğu için ara verdik ama internet üzerinden oyunları yayımlamaya devam ediyoruz. Bu vesile ile tiyatroyu seven herkesi, pandemi sebebiyle zor günler geçiren, özellikle özel tiyatrolara destek vermeye davet ediyorum.

DİZİ OYUNCULUĞU, SUNUCULUK, TİYATRO, HANGİSİNİ TERCİH EDERSİNİZ? Tiyatro bizim panzehrimiz. Prova süreci, oyun süreci sürekli kendimizi geliştirdiğimiz bir alan. Dizi işi fabrikasyon. 5-6 günde 130-140 sayfa dizi çekiyoruz bu hepimiz için çok yıpratıcı. Oyuncu yine sete gidip, gelerek, bir nebze daha rahat ama set çalışanları için gerçekten çok zor. Hepsini çok severek yapıyorum ama bu yoğunlukta, sunuculuk bunların arasında biraz daha cazip.

"What will happen when I graduate from here?". That day I decided I wouldn’t do that job, but I hadn't decided what to do yet. Until the day I met with the theatre… Afterward, I loved the theater and said this is it, and I turned my life to this side.

YOU ARE FAMOUS MOSTLY AS AN ACTOR IN THE TV SERIES, BUT DOES THEATER SIDE CONTINUE? I have been playing the one-man play "Oxymoron" for 2 years in Erdal Beşikcioğlu's Tatbikat Stage. We had to give a break now as the theaters are closed, but we continue to broadcast the play online. On this occasion, I invite everyone who loves theater to support private theaters, especially those who have had a hard time due to the pandemic.

AN ACTOR IN TV SERIES, PRESENTER OR THEATRE, WHICH DO YOU PREFER? The theater is our antidote. The rehearsal process, the play process is an area where we constantly improve ourselves.

TV series area is a fabrication. We shoot 130-140 pages of the series in 5-6 days, which is very weary for all of us. The actor is a bit more comfortable going to the set and leaving at a

The Red Sonya’ya ortaokul ve liseyi beraber yatılı okuduğumuz arkadaşlarla ortağız. O grupla Imbarco isimli atı aldık, o zaten yatılı demek. İyi bir at değildi ama o bile bize yarış kazandırdı ve “Bir canlı nefes alıyorsa ondan umudu kesme” motto ’sunu aşılayarak sektöre yeni at sahipleri kazandırdı. Atlarımız kazanınca, whatsapp gruplarında, sosyal medyada paylaşıyoruz, böyle olunca ilgi artıyor tabi. Zaten atı görüp de sevmeyen var mıdır, bilemiyorum.

YURTDIŞINDAKİ SENDİKAL AT SAHİPLİĞİ SİSTEMİNİ KENDİ ARANIZDA UYGULAMIŞSINIZ. SİZCE YENİ AT SAHİPLERİNİ SEKTÖRE KAZANDIRMAK İÇİN NELER YAPMAK LAZIM? Dediğiniz gibi Amerika’da bazı atların 100 kişi sahibi var. Bu tarz düzenlemeler olursa ilgi daha da artacaktır diye düşünüyorum. Sanat ve spor camiasından çok ilgi var ve ben de gönüllü elçilik yapıyorum. Dediğim gibi yarış kazanınca ilgi daha da artıyor. Bir örnek vermek gerekirse, Vasily isimli tayımızın yarışını izlemek için arkadaş grubumuzla İstanbul’da bir araya geldik. O heyecanı gördüklerinde, futboldan daha fazla keyif verdiğini söyleyenler vardı. At görsel bir güzellik ve atın güzelliklerinin daha iyi yansıtabilmesi açısından bence televizyon çok önemli.

We also ran a horse together with the director Metin Balekoğlu for a long time. We are running The Red Sonya together with my boarding middle school and high school friends. We also purchased Imbarco with this group and Imbarco means a pension, boarding school student. He was not a very talented one but he also managed to win a race. He brought new horse owners to the sector by instilling the motto "If a living creature is breathing, do not despair from it". When our horses win, we share them in WhatsApp groups, on social media, so the interest increases. I don't know if anyone has seen the horse and doesn't like it anyway.

YOU HAVE IMPLEMENTED THE ABROAD’S UNION OWNERSHIP SYSTEM BETWEEN YOU. WHAT MUST WE DO TO BRING NEW HORSE OWNERS INTO THE SECTOR? As you said, some horses in America have 100 owners. If there are such arrangements, I think the interest will increase even more. There is a lot of interest from the arts and sports community and I am a volunteer embassy. As I said, the interest

TÜRK ATÇILIĞININ GELECEĞİNİ NASIL GÖRÜYORSUNUZ? TJK iyi aygırlar getirmeye devam ediyor, özel yetiştiricilerde de iyi aygırlar var. Önümüzdeki yıllarda sahaya çok kaliteli taylarımızın geleceğini ve çok fazla tayımızın yurtdışındaki yarışlara katılacağını düşünüyorum. Yeni haralar, yeni hipodromlar atçılığın daha fazla kişiye ulaşmasını sağlayacaktır.

Atçılık makine ile olabilecek bir iş değil. Birebir insan elinin değmesi gereken bir sektör olduğu için, istihdam yaratacak ve ekonomiye önemli derecede katkı sağlamaya devam edecektir. Bir de sahaya kadın eli değerse, sektörün havasının çok daha olumlu bir şekilde değişeceğini düşünüyorum. Bu yönde atılacak adımların da desteklenmesi taraftarıyım. Tüm bu yatırımları ve sektörün büyüklüğünü göz önüne aldığımda, uzun vadede Türk atçılığının, dünyada önemli yerlere geleceğini düşünüyorum.

ULUSLARARASI DÜZEYDE ÖNEMLİ BİR KOŞU MU YOKSA OSCAR KAZANMAK MI? Hiç tereddütsüz dünya çapında bir yarış kazanmayı tercih ederim. Çünkü öyle bir atı bir daha yakalayamayabilirim. Oscar’a aday olmak önemli ama bu sonraki yıllarda da olabilir, yani çok da önemli değil. Dünya çapında bir yarışı, mesela Dubai World Cup’ı kazanacak bir at her zaman denk gelmez.

WHAT DO YOU THINK FOR THE FUTURE OF THE INDUSTRY? TJK is continuing to import talented stallions and private breeders also have some talented stallions as well. I think that we will bring some better colts/fillies in the upcoming years and also I think that a lot of them will compete in the international stage. New farms, new racecourses will allow horse racing to reach more people. Horse racing can’t be done with machines. Since it is a sector that should be touched by human hands, it will create employment and continue to contribute significantly to the economy. I also think that if women get into the industry, the atmosphere of the sector will change in a much more positive way. I am in favor of supporting the steps to be taken in this direction. Considering all these investments and the size of the industry, I think the Turkish horse racing industry will come to important places in the world in the long term.

WINNING AN INTERNATIONAL BLACK-TYPE RACE OR AN OSCAR? An International Black-Type race, for sure. Because I may never have a horse like that again. Being nominated for an Oscar is important, but this may happen in the following years, so it doesn't matter. You can’t find such a horse most of the time to win a worldwide known race, for example, the Dubai World Cup. WE CAN SAY YOU BEGIN TO HAVE SOME GOOD HORSES WITH YOUR MARRIAGE. WHAT ABOUT YOUR 2-YEAR-OLD FILLY, GREAT EXUMA? It’s a good luck charm… “You can’t find the champion horse, it finds you.” they say. I saw a photo of a filly while browsing on Twitter, I fell in love. At that time, the thought of purchasing

Son koşusunda da rakibine sürekli hakimdi ama finişte geçildi ve o koşu sonrası bazı sıkıntıları oluştu, şu an dikkatli ilerliyoruz. The Red Sonya bizim için özel bir at. Çünkü yetiştiricisi olduğumuz bir tayın başarılı olması çok daha mutluluk verici. Pedigri tercihinde de katkım olması sebebiyle, başarılarından ayrıca gurur duyuyorum. Üst üste 4 yarış kazandı ve son grup koşusunda da kötü koşmadı. Adana’da idmanlarına devam ediyor.

AYGIR SEÇİMLERİNİ DE SİZ Mİ YAPIYORSUNUZ? Pedigri benim özel ilgi alanım diyebilirim. Türkiye’de gerçekten bu işi hakkıyla yapan arkadaşlarımız tabii ki var ve ben onların kullandığı terimlere hâkim değilim ama bu konuda zevkle çalışıyorum. Kısraklarımıza aygır seçimlerini, sadece istatistik olarak değil ayrıca kan hattının verdiği atlara da bakarak, kendim yapıyorum. Son yıllarda Türkiye’ye gelen aygırlar sayesinde daha da çok ilgilenir oldum diyebilirim.

WHAT ABOUT THE PROMISING DEBUTANT YİĞİTKARDEŞ AND THE RED SONYA? Yiğitkardeş started with two wins in two races as you know.

He ran very well and also in control of his rival throughout the race but unfortunately lost by a narrow margin in the end. He had some problems after the race and we are moving forward with caution. The Red Sonya is very special for us.

Because we are also the breeders of her. As I also share in the mating process, I feel very proud of her achievements.

She won four times in-a-row and did not run badly in the group race. She is in training at the Adana Racecourse.

DO YOU ALSO MAKE THE STALLION DECISIONS? I can say that bloodline is my special interest. There are our friends that do this job in a very proper way in Turkey, I do not use their premises but I’m researching with pleasure. I do the stallion decisions by looking at the bloodline and searching for the horses born from the same mating. I’m now even more interested in this thanks to the talented stallions the industry imported.

GELECEK YILLARDA KENDİ ÇİFTLİĞİNİZDE YETİŞTİRİCİLİK YAPMAYI DÜŞÜNÜYOR MUSUNUZ? İstanbul’a yakın yerde bir çiftlik alıp oraya yerleşmek, emeklilik planlarımın başında geliyor. Şu an atlarımız Kerem Alkan’ın çiftliğinde kalıyorlar. İleride kendi yerimizi alıp oraya geçmeyi düşünüyoruz. Atların içerisinde olmaktan büyük keyif alıyorum. Pedigrilerinin eşleştirilmesi, doğuma kadar geçen süre, sahaya gelmeleri, koşmaları hepsi ayrı bir keyif ve ben bunu hayatım boyunca yaşamak istiyorum. Bu sebeple çiftlik sahibi olmak planımız her zaman aklımızda.

DO YOU CONSIDER BREEDING IN YOUR FARM IN THE COMING YEARS? Buying a farm close to Istanbul and settling there is one of my retirement plans. Our horses are currently boarding in Kerem Alkan's farm. We are thinking of purchasing our farm in the future. I love being near to horses.

Mating the bloodlines, the time until the newborn’s delivery, bringing them to the racetrack, seeing them running, all of them are a huge pleasure and I want to feel this all through my life. For this reason, our plan to own a farm is always in our minds.

larını tavsiye ederim. Bu sayede sistemi görüp öğrenmiş olacaklardır. Bir atın masrafı, idman süreci, yarışları gibi faktörleri görerek bilinçli bir şekilde yatırımlarını artırabilirler. Yetiştiricilik ise biraz daha meşakkatli ve masraflı bir iş. Yeni başlayanlar için zaman alır. İyi kısraklar almak, çiftlik kurmak, ekip oluşturmak daha detaylı bir iş. Bu sebeple yeni başlayanlar için, önce koşan at almalarını tavsiye ederim.

ATÇILIK, HAYATINIZA NE KATTI? Osmanlıda akıl hastalarını tedavi ettikleri yere tımarhane denirdi çünkü akıl hastalarına at tımar ettirirlermiş. İyileştirmezmiş ama ehlileştirirmiş! Hastanın psikolojisi daha iyi duruma gelirmiş. Herkes farklı sektörlerde çalışıyor olsa da, stres hepimizin ortak problemi. Özellikle bizim sektörde, birçok etkenden dolayı çok daha baskın ve şiddetli. Tanınan biri olunca insanlar seni biliyor ve takip ediyor, bu sebeple üzerinizdeki baskı artıyor.

Ben sabah 5’te ahıra gidiyorum, atımı okşuyorum, seviyorum. O öyle bir şey ki üzerimdeki tüm stresi alıyor. Atın gözleri, o güzelliği seni güne hazırlıyor, bir nevi meditasyon gibi oluyor. İkinci olarak da sabretmeyi öğretti kesinlikle. “Sabreden derviş muradına ermiş” derler ya gerçekten de atçılığa çok uygun bir söz. Hasan Saydam “At koşar, baht kazanır” der. Şampiyon atın seni bulmasını beklemek gerek, bu yüzden bahtın kazandığına inandım, onu da öğrenmiş oldum. Bir de kaybetmeyi kabullenmeyi öğreniyorsun. Atçılığa ilk başladığım yıllarda kardeşimle beraber Inspector ile Arsenic’in burun buruna bitirdiği 2007 Gazi koşusunu izledik.

Koşunun hemen ardından kardeşim dedi ki; öndeki atın da, arkadan gelen atın da yetkilisi olsam heyecana dayanamazdım. Atçılıkta yenilmek her şeyin sonu değil, bunu öğreniyorsun. At koşsun, özveriyi göstersin, önümüzdeki yarışlar için sağlıklı kalsın, benim için yeter.

Because of this reason, I suggest purchasing an in-running horse for newcomers.

WHAT DID HORSE RACING BRING TO YOUR LIFE? In the Ottoman Empire, they used to dictate mental patients to groom horses. It did not heal but used to tame. The mental health of the patient used to get better.

Although everyone works in different industries, stress is a common problem for all of us. Especially in our industry, it is much more dominant and violent due to many factors. When you become well-known, people know and follow you, so you have increased pressure. I go to the box at 5 am, stroke my horse, pat it. It's something that takes all the stress out of me. The eyes of the horse, that beauty, prepares you for the day, it is like a kind of meditation. Second, it definitely taught me to be more patient. They say “patience leads to salvation” is indeed a very suitable word for horse racing. Hasan Saydam says "Horse runs, luck wins". You need to wait for a champion horse to come, so I believed that fortune had won, and I learned that too. You also learn to accept a loss. In my first days in the industry, I watched the 2007 Derby with my brother, the race in which Inspector and Arsenic passed the finishing-line together. Right after the race, my brother said; I could not stand the excitement if I was in charge of either the horse in front or the horse behind. Being defeated in horse racing is not the end of everything, you learn that. If the horse runs, shows devotion, stays healthy for the upcoming races, it is enough for me.

Ülkemizde bugünkü anlamıyla düzenli yarışlara ev sahipliği yapan ilk şehir olan İzmir’in tek G1 ve aynı zamanda da Türkiye’de senenin ilk Grup 1 yarışı olan Ege Derbisi, 14 Mart günü Şirinyer hipodromunda koşuldu. 1963 yılından beri aralıksız olarak düzenlenen derbi, 2002 yılına kadar 2400 metre mesafede ve kum pistte Grup 3 statüsünde, sonrasında ise farklı mesafe, pist ve statülerde koşulmuştur. İzmir is the first city in Turkey to organize regular horse races. The Aegean Derby, the only G1 race in İzmir and is the first G1 race of the calendar for all racecourses in Turkey took place on 14 March. The Derby has been held since 1963 continuously. Until 2004, the race ran at 2400 meters on dirt and was a G3-level contest, but after 2004 the distance, track and level of the race changed a few times.

The Derby ran as G1 firstly in 2019. Kinowa (Mountain Cat-October Baby/Eagle Eyed) won the 2200-meter dirt contest under Ahmet Çelik. Long Runner (Gio Ponti-Borrowing Base/Personal Flag) was the winner in 2020, that time at 2100-meters.

There is no clear favorite in the race, as contestants manage to pass each-other in previous races and that brings excitement to the race. Despite a sluggish start, Powerman (Powerscourt-Kızım Melike/Kaneko) took the lead as no one tried to take the initiative in the race. The 25th Dubai World Cup Meeting was held on 27 April Saturday without a racing-crowd. On the card of nine races, there were six G1 and three G2 races. The opening race was for Purebred Arabians’, and others were for thoroughbreds.

1996’dan 2019’a kadar aralıksız sürdürülen DWC, Covid-19 salgını nedeniyle geçen yıl koşulamadı. I used to watch the DWC meeting at the Meydan Racecourse in the last 10 years, but this year I have to watch the meeting from home and I can add this as a personal problem. The streaming and content of Dubai Racing TV were fine, but it is hard to say the same for the race, pre- and post-race and the ring footage. The scenes on the screen were not sufficient to reflect the events and actions, and they shared views that were not of a nature to be watched.

Godolphin has 9 DWC victories, and they improved their winning streak record to three with this victory after winning the DWC two years ina-row with Thunder Snow. With this year’s victory, horses from the USA won their 12th DWC in the 25th year of the DWC. Godolphin has so much faith in the winner of the race, the 4-year-old Mystic Guide (Ghostzapper-Music Note/A. P. Indy).

He managed to win four times, take second place two times and third place two times in his eight attempts. It is stated that the G1 BC Classic is among his targets for this year.

Mystic Guide’s rider Luis Saez preferred to race within the first three places throughout the race and won comfortably with 3,75 lengths in the end. The 2000-meter dirt contest finished with 2:01.61. Chrono Genesis’e binen Yuichi Kitamura ilk 1600’ü biraz daha yavaş geçse ve son 400’de de Loves Only You’dan o ciddi tamponu yemese… Belki Arc’ta bir daha izleriz, bakalım sonuç ne olur…

Böylesine hızlı ve mücadeleli geçen 2410 metrelik bir koşuya da 2:26.65 ile kırılan pist rekoru yakışırdı…

On the night with surprises, Lord North (Dubawi-Najoum / Giant's Causeway) proved that the favorites can win the race while winning the G1 Dubai Turf. The race was best of the night.

Mishriff ran very well but Japan mares Chrono Genesis (Bago-Chronologist/Kurofune) and Loves Only You (Deep Impact-Loves Only Me/Storm Cat) ran as well as their rival.

They ran very well against a male thoroughbred. If Chrono Genesis’ rider Yuichi Kitamura could set a slower pace in the first 1600-meters and if Loves Only You did not hit her in the last 400 meters. Maybe we'll watch at Arc again, let's see what the result will be…

The track record of 2:26.65 would suit only such a fast and challenging 2410-meter race.

DUBAI GOLDEN SHAHEEN SEVİNÇ VE GÖZYAŞI JOY AND TEARS

Kum pist ve 1200 metre mesafesiyle, ABD’den gelen atlara “göz kırpan” G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen’i kazanan Zenden (Fed Biz-You Laughin/Sharp Humor) söz ettiğimiz coğrafyanın safkanıydı. Bu mesafede listed koşu kazanarak Dubai’ye formda gelen safkan, yarışseverlerden pek ilgi görmedi ve koşunun en az şans verilen atı oldu. Liderliği erken alıp, jokeyi Antonio Fresu ile starttan çıktığı gibi birinciliğe uzanırken 1:09.01 ile pist rekorunu da kırdı.

Her şey koşu bittikten birkaç metre sonra başladı…

Zenden koşu içinde hiç zorluk yaşatmadığı jokeyini potoyu geçtikten sonra üzerinden düşürünce, Fresu’ya hayli zor anlar yaşattı ama sorun büyüktü. Potoyu geçerken yaşanan sevinç, yerini gözyaşlarına bıraktı. Çünkü atın sol ön ayağındaki kırık, ötenaziden başka çare bırakmamıştı…

Ciddi bir sorunu olmadığı anlaşılan Antonio Fresu sonraki koşularda at bindi. Japonya’dan gelen Red Le Zele (Lord Kanaloa-French Noir/French Deputy) 2., bu sezon düzenli koşma şansını bulan Canvassed (ShamardalPainter's Pride/Dansili) 3. oldu. Atınız uluslararası düzeyde bir koşu kazanacak ama siz o koşuyu hiç anımsamak istemeyeceksiniz… Ne garip değil mi?

With the distance and track (1200 meters, dirt), Golden Shaheen was winking to USA horses and Zenden (Fed Biz-You Laughin/Sharp Humor) was the winner from that geography, as expected. Zenden was an in-form horse as he won a Listed race at the same distance but did not see so much attention from betters as he had the highest odds in the race. He ran a gate-to-wire race under Antonio Fresu and won the race with a track record time, 1:09.01.

It all started a few meters after the race was over. Zenden was very comfortable throughout the race but dropped his jockey after he passed the finishing line and Fresu had a difficult time and there was a massive issue with the horse. The joy of winning was replaced by tears. Because the fracture in the left forefoot of the horse left no way other than euthanasia... Antonio Fresu doesn't seem to have a serious problem and managed to ride horses after the accident. Japan’s Red Le Zele (Lord Kanaloa-French Noir/French Deputy) finished second and Canvassed (Shamardal-Painter's Pride/Dansili), who managed to run regularly this year, finished third. Your horse will win an international-level race, but you won't want to remember that race at all… It is very strange, isn’t it?

AL QUOZ SPRINT AMERİKALILAR İÇİN BİR İLK A FIRST FOR AMERICANS

Bu mitingde Godolphin Ekürisi’nin öne çıkacağı koşulardan söz edilirken, ilk akla gelen G1 Al Quoz Sprint’ti ama kazanan isim, Extravagant Kid (Kiss the Kid-Pretty Extravagant/With Distinction) oldu. Çim pistteki mücadeleyi, ABD’den gelen 8 yaşındaki sprinterin kazanması, gerçekten de gecenin önemli sürprizlerindendi. 2007 yılından bu yana düzenlenen koşuyu ilk kez ABD’den gelen safkan kazandı.

ATLARDA HERPES VİRÜSÜ EQUINE HERPES VIRUS

Türkiye’de safkan at yetiştiriciliği gün geçtikçe ülke hayvancılık ekonomisinin önemli bir ayağı olacak nitelikte gelişmektedir.

Yetiştiriciliğin en önemli problemi olan safkan at kayıpları hastalıklara bağlı olarak veya hastalıklardan bağımsız kazalar sonucu oluşabilmektedir. Abortlar, neonatal tay ölümleri hatta damızlık kısrak-aygır kayıpları da yetiştiricilerin en büyük korkularındandır.

Hastalıklar sebebiyle oluşan at kayıpları içerisinde en önemli olanlar viral enfeksiyonlara bağlı kayıplardır. Viral enfeksiyonlar bilindiği üzere ilaçlarla tedaviye yanıt vermemektedir. Aynı zamanda birçok viral enfeksiyonun ilerleyen safhalarında, bakterilerin de sekonder olarak devreye girmesiyle hastalık durumu daha da komplike bir hale dönüşmektedir.

Viral enfeksiyonlar yönünden özellikle atlarda koruyucu hekimlik virüslerle mücadelenin en başarılı ayağını oluşturmaktadır. At yetiştiriciliğinde hem taylarda hem de yetişkin atlarda hastalık oluşturabilecek birçok viral hastalık etkeni mevcuttur. Bu etkenler genellikle solunum yolu enfeksiyonları, sindirim sistemi enfeksiyonları ve gebe kısraklarda abortlara sebep olmaktadır. Enfeksiyonun sebebinin teşhis edilmesi ve hastalığın prognozunun bilinmesi hastalıklarla mücadelede başarıya giden yolun ilk adımlarını oluşturmaktadır. Tay ve at kayıplarının büyük bir kısmı hastalık etkenlerine tanı konulamaması veya geç kalınan tedavi protokollerinden kaynaklanmaktadır.

Yetiştiriciler için sağlıklı ve başarılı bir tay elde edebilme kaygısı gebeliğin teşhisiyle birlikte başlar ve gebelik süresi boyunca da devam eder. Kısraklarda abortun önemli sebeplerinden olan viral enfeksiyonlar, yetiştiriciler için her zaman bir stres kaynağıdır.

Among the horse losses caused by diseases, the most important ones are the losses due to viral infections. As is known, viral infections do not respond to drug treatments. At the same time, in the later stages of many viral infections, the disease situation becomes more complicated with the secondary involvement of bacteria.

In terms of viral infections, preventive medicine is the most important/successful leg of the fight against viruses, especially in horses. Many viral disease factors in horse breeding can cause disease in both foals and adult horses.

These factors usually cause respiratory tract infections, gastrointestinal infections and abortions in pregnant mares. Diagnosing the cause of the infection and knowing the prognosis of the disease are the first steps to success in the fight against diseases.

Most foal and horse losses are due to the inability to diagnose the disease factors or to delayed treatment protocols. The anxiety of obtaining a healthy and successful foal starts with the diagnosis of pregnancy and continues throughout the pregnancy period for the breeders. Viral infections, one of the major causes of abortion in mares, are always a source of stress for the breeders.

Foals may be exposed to infectious agents before birth, during the intrauterine period. During the pregnancy, a NİSAN / APRIL

Taylarda enfeksiyonlar üç dönem altında incelenmektedir. Birincisi prenatal dönem dediğimiz embriyonal-fetal gelişimin olduğu gebeliğin ilk dönemleri, ikincisi perinatal dönem dediğimiz gebeliğin 20. haftasından doğuma kadarki süreyi ifade eder, üçüncüsü ise postnatal diye adlandırdığımız doğum sonrası dönemdir. Her dönemin kendine has riskleri ve enfeksiyon etkenleri vardır. Özellikle yetiştiricilik açısından perinatal dönemdeki abortlar genellikle viral etmenlerden dolayı şekillenmektedir. Gebeliğin ilerleyen dönemlerinde gerçekleşen viral enfeksiyonlar kaynaklı abortlar, yetiştiricileri büyük ekonomik kayıplara uğratmaktadır.

Şimdilerde ise Avrupa’da baş gösteren at herpes virüs vakaları, atçılık camiasında tedirginliklere yol açmaktadır. Uluslararası medyada çıkan haberlerde FEI’

EQUINE HERPES VIRUS The terms pandemic, virus, epidemic, disinfection and hygiene entered our lives with the covid-19 virus compulsively learned by all humanity from seven to seventy in the last two years. Nowadays, horse herpes virus cases in Europe cause anxiety in the equine community. According to the official figures reported from the FEI (International Equestrian Federation) that we track in the news in the international media, it has been learned that 17 horses were lost due to the herpes virus. Germany, Belgium, France, Sweden, Italy, England and Qatar have reported that the herpes virus

den (Uluslararası Binicilik Federasyonu) bildirilen resmi rakamlara göre 17 atın herpes virüs sebebiyle kaybedildiği öğrenilmiştir. Almanya, Belçika, Fransa, İsveç, İtalya, İngiltere ve Katar, herpes virüs salgınının kendi ülkelerinde de görüldüğünü bildirmişlerdir.

Henüz ülkemizde resmi olarak herhangi bir vaka bildirimi yapılmamış olsa da ülkemiz at yetiştiricileri tarafından endişe duyulması ve ciddiye alınması gereken bir hastalıktır.

Atların önemli viral hastalıkların biri olan herpes virüsler DNA’lı bir virüstür. Herpes virüsler atlarda genel olarak üst solunum yolu enfeksiyonları, abortlar ve encephalomyelitislere (Sinirsel Hastalık) sebep olurlar. Virüslerin inkubasyon (kuluçka) süresi 2-10 gün arasındadır. Atlar bu virüse bir kez maruz kalırlarsa yaşam boyu infekte kalabilirler. Atların bağışıklıklarının düştüğü zamanlarda virüsün tekrar hastalık yapma ihtimali de vardır. Equine Herpes virüsler beş tanedir (EHV-1,2,3,4,5). EHV-1 rhinopneumonitis, sinirsel bozukluklar ve abort, EHV-2 conjuktivitis, lenfadenopati çok nadir abort, EHV-3 (Atların Çiftleşme Egzantemi) genital bölge lezyonları, EHV-4 genç atlarda rhinopneumonitis oluşumu ve abort, EHV-5 rhinopneumonitise sebep olmaktadır. Özellikle EHV-1 ve EHV-4 daha ciddi klinik tablo oluşturduklarından diğerlerinden daha önemlidir. EHV-1 ilk olarak Amerika’da tanımlanmıştır.

Abort yapan kısraklarda EHV-1 virüsü ilk olarak Kentucky’de tespit edilmiştir. Sonrasında ise ilerleyen yıllarda dünya çapında tanınan ve tanısı konulan bir enfeksiyon halini almıştır.

SAÇILMA-BULAŞMA Atlarda da insanlarda olduğu gibi dönem dönem bazı hastalıklar küresel salgın olarak gözlemlenebilmektedir.

Salgınların küreselleşmesinde birinci ve en önemli etken, atların ülkeler arası transportudur. Kontrolsüz ve karantina uygulamasına tabi tutulmadan nakledilen atlar vücutlarında barındırdıkları hastalık etkenlerini kolaylıkla bir ülkeden başka bir ülkeye taşımış olurlar.

Virüsün yayılımında en önemli etken enfekte (virüsü yakalanmış) atlardır. Virüsler enfekte atların bütün sekret (göz yaşı, burun akıntısı vb.) ve ekstretleriyle (idrar,dışkı

Especially EHV-1 and EHV-4 are more important than others since they create more serious clinical pictures. EHV-1 was defined firstly in America. The first detected virus in abortion mares was reported in Kentucky. It became an infection that was recognized and diagnosed worldwide in the following years.

SPREADING-CONTA MINATION Some diseases from time to time can be observed as a global epidemic in horses, as in humans. The first and most important factor in the globalization of epidemics is the transport of horses between countries. Horses transported uncontrolled and without quarantine can easily transfer the disease factors they harbor in their bodies from one country to another.

The most important factor in the spread of the virus is the infected (virus-caught) horses. Viruses spread through all secretions (tears, runny nose, etc.) and extracts (urine, feces, etc.) of infected horses. Transmission occurs by close contact, nasal (nasal) discharge, infected feed and water, infected equipment (grooming equipment-harnesses) and with the aborted fetus’ environmental infection spreading role.

KLİNİK TABLO Enfekte olmuş atta yüksek ateş, burun ve göz akıntısı, konjuktivit, iştahsızlık, depresyon, ilerleyen dönemlerde kilo kaybı en belirgin semptomlarıdır. Gebe kısraklarda gebeliğin son dört ayında şekillenen abortlar da EHV-1 için önemli bir semptomdur. Abortlar aniden ve hiçbir klinik belirti gözlemlenmeden şekillenir. Abort olan fetuslar genellikle taze görünümlüdür (otoliz şekillenmemiş-çürüme ve kokuşmanın olmadığı form) ve plasenta da bozulmamış bir şekilde atılmıştır. Çoğu zaman ölü olarak doğan fetusta; ikterus, vücut boşluklarında gözlemlenen ödem ve akciğerlerindeki şişmeler dikkat çekici otopsi bulgularındandır. Genellikle sporadik olarak gözlemlenen vakalar olduğu gibi bazen sürü içerisinde çok sayıdaki gebe kısrakta abortun şekillenmesiyle salgın formunda da gözlemlenebilir.

A strong cough of a virus-infected horse can infect an area 10 meters in diameter with the virus in the form of droplet infection. This is how other horses catch the aerosol virus (by breathing). In addition, healthy-looking infected horses (subclinical patients) who do not show symptoms clinically have the possibility of spreading the virus throughout their lives.

THE CLINICAL PICTURE High fever, runny nose and eye discharge, conjunctivitis, anorexia, depression, and weight loss in the later stages are the most prominent symptoms of the infected horse. Abortions that occur in the last four months of pregnancy in pregnant mares are also important symptoms for EHV-1. Abortions occur suddenly and without any clinical symptoms. Fetuses with abortions are usually fresh-looking (autolysis unformed-no rotting) and the placenta is also discarded unimpaired. Icterus, edema in body cavities and swelling in the lungs are remarkable autopsy findings in the dead-born fetuses most of the time.

While cases are generally observed sporadically, it can also be observed in the form of an epidemic sometimes with the formation of abortions in a large number of pregnant mares in the herd.

In addition to respiratory system problems in young horses, who are infected with EHV-1, ocular system symptoms (urticaria, chorioretinitis) can also be observed. In the cas-

Solunum sistemi problemlerinin yanı sıra birçok vakada sinir sistemi problemleri de (miyeloansefalit, ataksi, parazi, paraliz) gözlemlenebilir.

Genç ve yaşlı atlarda farklı klinik tablo sergileyen EHV-1, yaşlı atlarda çoğu zaman subklinik olarak genç atlarda ise inkubasyon süresi sonrası yüksek ateş, kataral-pürülent bir rhinitis, öksürük ve faranjit tablosuyla seyretmektedir.

EHV-2 ise conjuktivitis, lenfadenopati, çok nadiren abort ve taylarda solunum sistemi hastalıkları oluşturabilir.

EHV-3 aygırların penis ile prepisyumunda, kısrakların da vagina-vestibular mukazaları ile perineal bölgelerinde, veziküller, papüller, püstüller ve ülserlere sebep olan çiftleşme ile bulaşan bir hastalıktır, atların çiftleşme egzantemine sebep olur. Bakteriyel enfeksiyonlarla birlikte seyretmeyen, komplike bir hal almamış vakalarda lezyonlar 2 haftada iyileşme gösterir. İyileşen bölgeler depigmente bir görünümde kalabilir. Diğer herpes virüs tipleri gibi enfekte olan atların vücudunda yaşam boyu bulunur.

EHV-4 ise atlarda akut şiddetli solunum sistemi enfeksiyonlarına sebep olmakla birlikte atların rhinopneumonitis virüsü olarak da adlandırılmaktadır. In uncomplicated cases that do not progress with bacterial infections, the lesions heal in 2 weeks. The healed areas may remain in a depigmented appearance. Like other types of herpes viruses, it is found in infected horses’ bodies for life.

Hastalığın kesin tanısı için laboratuvar ortamında etken identifikasyonunun yapılması gerekmektedir. Kan örnekleri ve abort yapan kısraklar için abort fetüs organları da virüs identifikasyonunda kullanılmaktadır. Uygun bir şekilde alınan örnekler, uygun koşullarda tanı yapılacak laboratuvara ulaştırılmalıdır. Hücre kültürleri ile yapılan laboratuvar tanı işleminde 4-10 gün arasında virüsler izole edilebilmektedir.

TEDAVİ Hastalık semptomlarında bazen kendiliğinden iyileşmenin olabildiği EHV enfeksiyonlarının bir tedavisi yoktur. Tüm viral hastalıklarda olduğu gibi, genellikle ateş düşürücüler ve vitamin-mineral takviyeleri ile parenteral sıvı replasmanının

For the definitive diagnosis of the disease, agent identification should be done in the laboratory environment. Viruses are more likely to be detected in runny nose samples taken 48 hours after the onset of infection. Abortion fetus organs of abortion mares and blood samples are also used in virus identification. Properly collected samples should be delivered to the laboratory to be diagnosed under appropriate conditions.

Viruses can be isolated between 4-10 days in the laboratory diagnosis process performed with cell cultures.

TREATMENT There is no cure for EHV infections, where the symptoms of the disease can sometimes improve spontaneously. As in all viral diseases, symptomatic treatments are generally ap-

At Herpes Virüsüne karşı EHV-1 ile EHV-4‘e karşı aşılama protokolü uygulanan ülkemizde taylar, yarış atları, damızlık kısraklar, damızlık aygırlar düzenli olarak aşılanmaktadır. Hatta herpes virüs aşılarının hem yarış atı yetiştiriciliğinde hem de spor atlarında yetkili birimlerce yaptırılması zorunlu tutulmuştur.

Vaccination, which is the most successful way of preventing the disease, is an important topic for both young horses and adult horses. Foals, racehorses, stallions and broodmares are regularly vaccinated in our country where vaccination protocol is applied against EHV-1 and EHV-4 against the equine herpes virus. Herpes virus vaccines are mandatory for both racehorses, sport horses and also for horses with breeding purposes.

Equıne Herpes Virus (EHV 1-4) aşısı, gebe kısraklara gebeliğin 5., 7. ve 9. aylarında birer doz, boş kısraklara, aygırlara, bir yaşından büyük tay ve koşan atlara ise altı ay arayla yılda iki defa birer doz, bir yaşını doldurmamış taylara ise 6. ve 7. aylarında birer doz aşılama yapılıp sonrasında altı ayda bir birer doz olarak yapılır.

Equine Herpes Virus (EHV 1-4) vaccine is given to pregnant mares at 5, 7 and 9 months of pregnancy, for unpregnant mares, stallions, one-year-old+ foals and running horses one dose, twice a year with an interval of six months, foals who are less than one year old are vaccinated one dose each in the 6th and 7th months and then once every six months.

Six different selections are made by evaluating the periods between the Dubai World Cup. The committee announced that the results of the group 1 races of the 2019 Dubai World Cup day were a factor in this year's elections.

Godolphin’s trainer Charlie Appleby won the best trainer award. 14 Group 1 races he won in the UK, Ireland, Canada, France, Germany and UAE brought him this award. He managed to grab first place in the win list of the 2021 Dubai World Cup Carnival.

The unforgettable jockey Jerry Bailey won the Lifetime Achievement award. He also made the hall of fame list in the USA and won 5893 races in his career that lasted over 30 years. The famous jockey was the winner of the first Dubai World Cup with Cigar in 1996. In the upcoming years, he added three more DWC victories to reach four in total and became the jockey with the most wins in the DWC. He has 7 Eclipse Awards and 15 Breeders’ Cup victories and has the record in these categories. The 63-year-old Jerry Bailey is now working as a horse racing commentator for NBC. Hollie Doyle’s winner in the People’s Choice wasn’t a shocker. The 24-year-old jockey broke new ground by completing the UK jockey ranking in 4th place in 2020. She also had the third place in the “Sport Personality of the Year” award of BBC, drawing public attention. Sunday Times chose her as the “Sportswoman of the Year” and The Horse Racing Writers and Photographers Association also chose her as the jockey of the year.

SWISS SKYDIVER ŞAMPİYON’UN DÖNÜŞÜ THE RETURN OF THE CHAMP

2020 yılının Eclipse Ödüllü 3 yaşlı dişi tayı Swis Skydiver (Daredevil-Expo Gold/Johannesburg), yeni sezona G1 Beholder Mile Stakes birinciliği ile başladı. Türkiye Jokey Kulübü’nün 2021 aşım sezonu için ABD’ye kiraladığı Daredevil’in başarılı yavrularından Swiss Skydiver, geçtiğimiz yıl G1 Preakness Stakes’i kazanarak tüm dikkatleri üzerine çekmişti. Bu safkan, Preakness Stakes’i 145 yıllık tarihinde kazanan altıncı dişi tay oldu. Kasım ayında katıldığı G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff’ın start çıkışında yaşadığı ciddi yaralanma hem hayal kırıklığı hem de pistlere yeniden dönüşü konusunda soru işaretleri yaratmıştı.

The 2020 Eclipse-Award winner Swiss Skydiver (Daredevil-Expo Gold/Johannesburg), started the new season with a victory in the G1 Beholder Mile Stakes. Swiss Skydiver won the Preakness Stakes last season and attracted a lot of attention, this year her sire Daredevil is serving as a stallion in the USA for the Jockey Club of Turkey. Swiss Skydiver became the sixth filly to win the Preakness Stakes in the 145 years of Preakness Stakes history. The injury that she suffered as the G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff caused disappointment and also question marks about her return to the racetracks.

"Maybe we'll go hunt Monomoy Girl now, we'll see," McPeek added. Monomoy Girl was the winner of the BC Distaff in the race that Swiss Skydiver suffered an injury and she is the winner of the “Older Dirt Female” award in the Eclipse Awards.

DANON SMASH Japonya’da bahar sezonunun en önemli mücadelelerinden G1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen, 28 Mart Pazar günü Chukyo Hipodromu’nda koşuldu. Uluslararası düzeydeki mücadeleye bu yıl başka ülkelerden katılım olmadı. Takamatsunomiya Kinen; Japon yarış takvimindeki 1200 metre mesafeli iki uluslararası G1 koşunun ilkini ve 5 farklı ülkede 10 koşudan oluşan Global Sprint Challenge’ın 3. ayağını oluşturuyor.

The G1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen, one of the most important races of the spring season in Japan took place on 28 March Sunday at the Chukyo Racecourse. There were no international participants this year. Takamatsunomiya Kinen is the first of two international G1 races at the 1200 meters distance in the Japanese race calendar and the third leg of the Global Sprint Challenge, which consists of 10 races in 5 different countries.

Resistencia (Daiwa Major-Malacostumbrada/Lizard Island) ve 3.’lükte kalan Indy Champ ‘i (Stay Gold-Will Power/ King Kamehameha) az farklarla geride bıraktı. Bu koşu; çift dönüşlü ve son 340 metrede, 2 metre yükselen pistte koşulduğu için rekor derecelerle sonuçlanmıyor.

Aşkın Yargı, who does not break away from the magical world of the horses he met through his uncle Baha Yargı, is considered as one the successful trainers of the last years in Australia.

BİZE KISACA ÖZGEÇMİŞİNİZİ ANLATIR MISINIZ? 1980’lerde Türkiye’den Avustralya’ya göç eden ve atçılıkla ilgili ciddi geçmişi olmayan küçük bir aileydik. Her ne kadar okul çağımda 2-3 senelik bir dönem için Türkiye’de eğitim almış olsam da eğitim hayatımın büyük çoğunluğu Avustralya’da geçti. 18 yaşımda okuldan mezun olduktan hemen sonra Avustralya, Victorie, Rye’de bulunan Freedman Eküri’sinde çalışmaya başladım.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL HISTORY? I finished my schooling at the age of eighteen and began working for the Freedman Racing stable in Rye, Victoria, Australia. I come from a small family that has no real background with horses who migrated from Turkey to Australia in the 1980’s. My school education was mainly in Australia, although I did live in Turkey for two to three years during my teenage years.

Benden sonra kardeşim Akın da atlara ilgi duymaya başladı. Daha önce ata bile dokunmamıştı ancak eşim Amy’nin anne ve babasının çiftliğine gitti ve orada atlarla iletişim kurmayı öğrendi. Sonrasında ise en iyi antrenörlerden, aynı zamanda Sheikh Mohammed-Darley’in de antrenörleri olan Peter ve Paul Snowden’dan iş teklifi aldı. Şu an aygırlık yapmakta olan Sepoy isimli at ile G1 Blue Diamond’ı kazandı. Kendisi için büyük bir şans olan bu atla Dubai’ye seyahat etme fırsatı da bulmuştu.

My Brother Akin followed me and took an interest in horse racing. He had never touched a horse and started to go down the stables of Amy’s Mother and Father where they taught him to handle horses. He was offered a job for one of our leading trainers, Peter and Paul Snowden. They were private trainers for Sheik Mohammed – Darley. Akin was lucky enough to look after a horse called Sepoy that won the Group One Blue Diamond and is now a stallion standing at stud.

Akin also was lucky to travel with this horse to Dubai.

ATÇILIKLA İLGİLENMEYE NASIL BAŞLADINIZ? Beni atlarlar tanıştırıp hayvanları ve at yarışlarını sevmeme sebep olan kişi Baha Amcamdır. Türkiye’deyken, Adana’da henüz küçük bir çocukken ahırlara gittiğimi ve oradayken aldığım keyfi halen hatırlıyorum. Baha Amcamın kariyerimde büyük bir etkisi vardır, o olmasa muhtemelen at yarışlarının içinde olmayacaktım.

SO HOW DID YOU GET INTERESTED IN HORSE RACING? My Uncle Baha introduced me to horse racing and he is the reason I love the animal and love the sport. When I was in Turkey, I still remember going to the stables at Adana when I was only a young boy and I remember being very excited to be there. My Uncle Baha has been a big influence in my career. If it was not for him, I probably would not have been involved in horse racing.

FREEDMAN İLE ÇALIŞMAYA NASIL BAŞLADINIZ? SİZE MESLEKİ ANLAMDA NE GİBİ KATKILARI OLDU? Adana’da geçirdiğim yıllarda amcamın izinden gitmeye karar verdim. 17 yaşında Avustralya’ya dönerek at binme ve at bakım eğitimleri aldım. Öğretmenlerimden biri, yeteneklerim ve gösterdiğim gelişimden çok memnundu ve Avustralya’nın en iyi antrenörlerinden Lee Freedman ile çalışmam için aracı oldu. Daha sonra Lee Freedman için ahır görevlisi olarak çalışmaya başladım ve 15 senelik bir sürecin ardından da yardımcı antrenör oldum.

Lee ve Anthony Freedman ile çalıştığım zaman çok şey öğrendim. Grup 1 atlarıyla eyaletler arası yolculuk yapma fırsatı buldum ve bu atlarla önemli başarılar da kazandık.

Birçok üst sınıf ve iyi yetiştirilmiş atla çalışma fırsatına sahip oldum. 90 tanesinin Sheikh Mohammed-Darley’e ait olduğu, toplam 109 tane 2 yaşlı taya sahip olduğumuz bir yılı hatırlıyorum. Freedman; Coolmore ve Çin Yarış Kulübü dahil birçok çok tanınmış eküriye de antrenörlük hizmeti vermişti.

Freedman ile çalıştığım uzun dönemde edindiğim tecrübelerden dolayı çok minnettarım. Bu dönemde iki yaşlılarla kazandığımız Grup 1 yarışlardan tutun, Melbourne Cup’a kadar birçok önemli zafer elde ettik. Bu kadar kaliteli atları ve onların farklı mesafelerdeki performanslarını izlemek gelişme anlamında bana büyük fayda sağladı.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED WITH FREEDMAN? WHAT KIND OF CONTRIBUTIONS DID THEY MAKE TO YOUR PROFESSIONALLY? After living in Adana for a number of years, I was inspired to follow in my Uncle’s footsteps, so I returned to Australia as a 17-year-old boy and began a horse riding and stable hand course. One of my teachers was very pleased with my skills and progress and organised for me to work for Australian Racing Hall of Fame trainer, Lee Freedman. I began working for Lee Freedman as a novice stable hand and I progressed over a period of fifteen years to become Assistant Trainer.

I learnt so much at my time with Lee and Anthony Freedman. I had the opportunity to travel with group one horses interstate for major racing carnivals where we had a lot of success.

I had the opportunity to work with some top class and extremely well-bred horses. I remember one year we had 109 yearlings for the year, of which 90 were owned by Sheikh Mohamed – Darley. The stable has trained for many well-known international clients including Coolmore, China Horse Club.

I am so grateful for the experience I gained from working at the stable for such a long time. We had some amazing success including group one winning two year old’s, all the way through to winning the Melbourne Cup. The experience I gained from seeing such high class horses and over varying distances was a wonderful learning experience.

EŞİNİZ VE AİLESİNİN ATÇILIKLA OLAN BAĞLARINDAN SÖZ EDER MİSİNİZ? Eşim Amy atçılık camiasında çok tanınmış bir ailenin mensubu. Amy’nin büyük babası Jim Houlahan özellikle engelli yarışlarda çok bilinen ve saygı duyulan bir antrenör. Ancak düz yarışlarda da Grup 1 kazanmış bir isim. Amy’nin annesi (Frances Houlahan) ve babası (Brian Johnston) da antrenörlük kariyerleri başarılı olan isimler. Amy de engel atlama müsabakalarında yer alıyordu, uluslararası alanda genç binici takımlarıyla Yeni Zelanda ve Avrupa’da müsabakalara katıldı.

COULD YOU TELL US ABOUT THE CONNECTION OF YOUR SPOUSE AND FAMILY WITH HORSE RACING? My wife Amy comes from a very well-known racing family.

Her Grandfather is Jim Houlahan who is a well-known and highly respected trainer of mainly jumps horses (hurdle and steeple chase racing) but was also a group one winning trainer of sprinters. Amy’s Mother (Frances Houlahan) and Father (Brian Johnston) also have successful training careers. Amy was a successful show jumping rider, competing internationally on young rider teams in New Zealand and also in Europe.

YARGI RACİNG’İ KURMAYA NE ZAMAN KARAR VERDİNİZ? Eşim Amy 2015 yılında yarış atı antrene etmeye başladı ve başarılı da oldu. Ben Freedman ile çalışmaya devam ediyordum. İkinci çocuğumuz Georgia’nın doğumu sonrası Nisan 2019’da antrenörlük konusunda beraber çalışmaya karar verdik. Antrenör olarak ilk yarışımızı 21 Nisan 2019’da Danger in Devon isimli at ile Mornington’da koştuk ve kazandık. Daha da güzeli o gün koşan iki atımız vardı ve ikisi de kazandı! Antrenör olarak hem ilk yarışımı kazandığım hem de ilk çiftemi yaptığım harika bir gündü.

WHEN DID YOU DECIDE TO ESTABLISH YARGI RACING? My wife Amy began training racehorses in 2015 and had success in her own right. I continued to work for the Freedman stable. We now have a young family and around the birth of our second child, Georgia, we decided to form a training partnership in April 2019. My first winner as a trainer was on 21/04/19 and was a horse called Danger in Devon at Mornington. We had two horses racing that day and they both won!

It was a great day to get my first winner and my first training double.

YARGI RACİNG OLARAK BU SEZONKİ PERFORMANSINIZ HAKKINDA BİLGİ VEREBİLİR MİSİNİZ? Ülkenin önde gelen hipodromları Flemington, Caulfield, Moonee Valley, Sandown dahil 25 ayrı hipodromda toplam 129 yarışa katıldık. Bu yarışlarda 19 birincilik, 14 ikincilik ve 14 üçüncülük alarak %15,7 kazanma, %38,8 ilk 3 başarısı elde ettik. Geçen sene 24 yarış kazanmıştık, önümüzde 4 aylık bir süre olmasına rağmen şu an 19 yarış kazandık. Gerek kazanma oranımız gerekse de kazanma sayımız dikkate alındığında bizim için başarılı bir sezon geçiyor diyebilirim. İDMANLARINIZI NEREDE YAPIYORSUNUZ? ŞU AN İDMANDA KAÇ ATINIZ VAR? Şu an Mornington’daki tesisimizde 25 atımız bulunuyor. Antrenman yapmak için çok uygun bir yere sahibiz. İçerisinde atlarımız için yüzme havuzu, yürüme bandı ve yürüteç de bulunun, doğa içerisinde yaşayabildikleri kendi çiftliğimiz var. Ahırlarımız Mornington Hipodromu’nun idman pistine sadece 600 metre uzaklıkta ve bu sayede atlarımız idmana kısa sürede keyifle gidip, idman sonrası da ahırlara kadar rahatlayarak yürüyorlar.

Atlarımızın antrenman programı dahilindeki rutinleri için götürebileceğimiz birçok güzel plaj mevcut. Derin kumda atlarla kenter yapmayı çok seviyoruz, özellikle geçmişten gelen sakatlıkları bulunan atların rehabilitasyonu için çok faydalı oluyor.

Aynı zamanda atları soğuk deniz suyunda yürütmenin çok ciddi iyileştirici gücü de var.

TÜRKİYE’DEKİ YARIŞLARI TAKİP EDİYOR MUSUNUZ? Babam bana Türkiye’den yarışların videolarını gönderiyor ve ben de özellikle Baha amcamın ahırındaki atların ne yaptığını takip ediyorum. Amcamın başarılarıyla gurur duyuyor ve onunla konuşmak, fikirlerini dinlemekten keyif alıyorum. Vakit bulduğumda, Türkiye'deki önemli yarışları da takip ediyorum.

AVUSTRALYA YARIŞÇILIĞINI BATI AVRUPA VE ABD’DEN FARKLI KILAN NEDİR? Avustralya yarışçılığı diğer ülkelerden çok farklı. Avustralya’da bir atın %1’er hisseyle 100’e kadar sahibi olabilir. Sendikalar at sahipliği konusunda sektörde önemli yere sahip ve bu sayede Avustralya’da insanlar oldukça makul ücretlerle at sahibi olabiliyorlar. Ülkede birçok farklı tarzda hipodrom mevcut. 360 hipodrom var ve atçılık sektörü ülkenin en önemli iş alanlarından biri konumunda. Her ne kadar Avustralya’da ülke dışından gelen büyük at sahipleri at koşsa da Avustralya’yı özel kılan; küçük paralar ödeyerek at sahibi olabilme imkanı ve bunun keyfini sürebilme şansı. Ayrıca Avustralya’daki ikramiyeler de gerçekten diğer ülkeler ile kıyaslanamayacak kadar yüksek.

CAN YOU GIVE INFORMATION ABOUT YARGI RACING’S PERFORMANCE THIS SEASON? We participated in a total of 129 races in 25 different hippodromes including the leading hippodromes such as: Flemington, Caulfield, Moonee Valley, Sandown.

In these races, we finished 19 first, 14 runner-up and 14 third places by winning 15.7% and 38.8% for the top 3 places. Last year we won 24 races, now we have won 19 races despite 4 months ahead. Considering both our winning rate and the number of winnings, I can say that it is a successful season for us.

WHERE DO YOU TRAIN YOUR HORSES? HOW MANY HORSES DO YOU HAVE IN TRAINING NOW? We currently had 25 horses at work at our property in Mornington. We have a lovely place to train out of. We have our own stables, all our horses live out in day yards. We have our own horse swimming pool, walking machine as well as horse treadmill. Our horses have a leisurely walk up to the training track at Mornington Racecourse which is only 600m away and then also enjoy a nice relaxing cool down when they walk back to our stables.

We have a lot of amazing beaches that we take the horses to for part of their training each day. We love cantering the horses through deep sand which is a great work for horses with old injuries as part of their rehabilitation and walking the horses through the cold sea water has amazing healing powers.

DO YOU FOLLOW THE RACES IN TURKEY? My father regularly sends me the replays of races in Turkey and I take a keen interest in how Baha’s stable is going. I am extremely proud of his success and enjoy talking to Baha and asking him for advice. Also, when I have time, I follow the major races in Turkey WHAT MAKES AUSTRALIAN RACING DIFFERENT FROM WEST EUROPE AND USA? Australian racing is so much different to other parts of the world. In Australia, one horse might have up to 100 individual owners, all owning 1% each. Syndicates are a huge part of racehorse ownership in Australia where we get a lot of people involved for a very small amount of money. We have so many different racetracks all around Australia –360 racecourses in Australia and the racing industry is one of the biggest employers in the country. Whilst there a lot of big international owners that racehorses in Australia, I think what makes Australian Horse racing special is that basically anyone can own a share in a horse and enjoy the fun. Also, the prizes in Australia are indeed too high to compare with other countries.
