The Klinje Lake is a real attraction just few kilometres away from the main road that leads to the coast. Favourite resting place of many actors, artists and poets in the old days, the Klinje Lake is a real jewel in this part of the highlands Herzegovina. Its emerald-green and clear water often attracts tourists who pass by this place during the summer going to the sea so they stay for couple of days above the oldest dam in the Balkans. Arch dam is a cultural-historical monument and it is under the protection of the State. It was designed by French engineer Krantz and Austria-Hungary built it from 1891 till 1896 for its needs, for the irrigation of the Gacko field. It was built from the stone from Gacko

and the ashes of the lava from Vesuvius as the connective material. This region is rich in river flows, here are the springs of the Mušnica, that is Trebišnjica and springs of the Sutjeska and the Neretva and large number of caves and pits. The region has at its disposal numerous natural and antropogenuous values that offer the possibility for development of various kinds of tourism, where the most perspective is the rural tourism. All this clearly show why Gacko has been for the centuries the summer resort for medieval Bosnian kings and sophisticated noblemen from the old Dubrovnik republic.

Zvornik

vornik is located at an important crossroads, so called Drina direction, which you cannot go around no matter where you go, to Belgrade, Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Tuzla. It has got rich culturalhistorical heritage, natural beauties, the Drina River and Zvornik Lake, healthy food, good restaurants, traditional cultural festivals, and above all people from Zvornik are great hosts, known for their hospitality, frank and kind. The municipality of Zvornik is situated in the north-eastern Bosnia, and its territory extends to the area of 387 square kilometres. The town is situated on the eastern slopes of Majevica Mountain at the altitude of 146 metres on the left bank of the Drina.

years ago. There are 1404 objects at 234 localities from the Roman period, 56 necropolises with about 800 stećaks (three with inscriptions and 44 have the relief ornaments). Numerous Roman traces have been found in Zvornik’s surrounding, which was first mentioned in 1519 under the name Zvonik. In that period it consisted of two parts: the Fortress and the Lower Town. Since 1428 it had been mentioned as a place from which the silver was transported to Dubrovnik. Serbian despots, Turks, Hungarians and Austrians scrambled Zvornik as an important strategic point. Roman traces show that the area around Zvornik was densely populated and well protected inside Roman fortifications. The Drina River and Zvornik Lake with heterogeneous fish stocks offer excellent conditions for all kinds of fishing. Rapid, cold and clear Drina river is suitable for log floating, rafting, navigation and enjoyment, while on the lake you can swim, camp, rent a kayak, canoe or the boat and like that in the best way see the rich nature and surroundings. Medieval fortress Đurđev town Old, but well preserved medieval fortress that dominates the town with its walls and towers on the hill above Zvornik was declared a cultural monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Road and railway traffic towards all parts of the Republic of Serbia goes over three bridges over the Drina, and the old King Petar I Karađorđević Bridge is in use only for pedestrians.

It is presumed that it was built by Bosnian feudalists and Hungarians, and expanded and renovated by Austrians. From that period originates the legend about doomed Jerina, Đurđe’s wife to whom is the building of old Zvornik town ascribed.
