The Sail Hall Project Details Winter 2018 Design Concept Toronto Waterfront Interpretation Centre By: Djordje Boskovic & Xian Chao Lin Project Details Located in a forest near Tommy Thompson Park in Toronto, we sought to create a space that would educate and promote local history and inspire with Architecture and the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. We decided on an Interpretative Center with a dominant Exhibition Hall to showcase local and Native America displays. There are two hiking trails on the property. The prominent Martin Goodman trail abuts the Center and it right into the downtown core. As well, there is the Tommy Thompson park trail with breathtaking views of the city skyline that will be available for visitors to explore. We wanted them to be able to immerse themselves in the environment, so we are incorporating sleeping quarters for guests. With the site being so environmentally sensitive, we didn’t want to disturb the area too much, and for every tree that will be removed from the site, there will be ten planted. Furthermore, parking for day visitors will be available in the existing parking lot at the park entrance and a short five-minute hike will be required to reach the Center. A small drop-off area and a few over-night parking spots will be located adjacent to the Center for guest convenience. With the nearby Marina in mind, the sail boat will be a major architectural theme, which we will integrate into the form of the building.

Design Detail - Sail Boat We wanted to integrate the surrounding environment into the form of the building. With the presence of the nearby marina, there is an extraordinary amount of sail boats in and around the shore line. From an aerial view our design incorporates the silhouette of the sail boat into the building shape. It has been a very important aspect of our design from the very beginning of the design stage.

The booming City of Toronto is always in demand for living accommodations and mercantile space. In the North West corner of Bloor and Lansdowne this mixed-use “Downtown Living+” building includes the latter on the ground floor and the former on the second and third floors. The substructure houses the resident parking and storage units. The parking entrance is on the western side of the building and there is an alley in the back for transport trucks, which have a drive-in entrance into the shipping/receiving INDEX area of the ground floor. The frame of the building is all steel columns and beams, with pre-engineered wood joists supporting the floors, and it rests on a poured concrete foundation. STORAGE/ LOCKERS ROOM 2

ACME Electrical Warehouse Project Details Winter 2018 Deep Fountation Steel Structure By: Djordje Boskovic, Xian Chao Lin

Project Description This steel structure is comprised of the large warehouse space, and an office area. The warehouse section is to be wrapped with concrete panel curtain walls, with six loading docks and one drive-in garage door for transport. The office space is designed with a modern approach, including exterior glazed curtain walls, and an open concept work environment that incorporates interior glazed interior walls. The main entrance is located on the east end of the building and the reception area is open to the above floor to create a welcoming environment for employees and visitors.

Nature Centre Project Details Fall 2017 Conceptual design By: Djordje Boskovic

Project Description This publicly funded project was designed to make use of an empty park located next to the toll keeper’s cottage on the corner of Bathurst Street and Davenport Road. Considering the fact that a public school is within walking distance, I developed a design that would be used as an educational nature center. As a nature-oriented building and located in a park, it was crucial to keep sustainability a top priority. All the materials used are either reclaimed, recycled, or both, with minimal effect to the surrounding environment.

The roof overhang was designed in such a manner to block out summer sun for shade and allow winter sun in for heating.

Half of the solar panels on the roof are active panels for radiant floor heating and half are photovolatic panels for generation of electricity to power appliences and provide lighting, and an additonal source to heat water.

The location of trees around the building will create shade in the summer and naturally cool the building.

Custom Home Project Details Winter 2017 Residential Design By: Djordje Boskovic

Project Description With a narrow property and a handful of large oak trees on the lot, this project required fine balance between maximizing building footprint and incorpoÂŹrating unique design. The frontage of the property is on a steep incline, so I designed a wood frame house with the garage located in the basement. On the same floor in the rear of the house there is a walk out into the back yard, accommodating larger windows, and allowing more natural light into the lower level. The stairwell is in the same location throughout the home and incorporates an area that is open to above and below, creating an acoustical connection from the basement, up to the second floor.

Amytis Residence Project Details Summer 2018 High-rise Residential By: Djordje Boskovic, Jackson Senner, Anthony Pearce, & Natalia Volkova Project Description Amytis’ Husband, the Persian King of Babylon, built her the Hanging Gardens to rejoice her with the beauty of the green hills of her homeland. The Amytis residence is a luxury condominium on Toronto’s historic waterfront. The building’s stepped green roofs, arcade and floor to ceiling windows will fill residents with the serenity of one of the Ancient world’s greatest wonders. The Amytis Residence incorporates many sustainable features in its design. Outfitted with green roofs, argon filled double-pane windows, electric car charging, and Energy Star rated appliances in every unit, this energy efficient building has minimal environmental impact. The Amytis Residence fosters community sustainability, supporting a diversity of residents and providing opportunities for them to learn and connect. A community garden, in addition to various programming in the building’s amenities, provides a sense of belonging for our residents. On designated floors, pairs of adjacent suites are connected by shared balconies to accommodate multi-generational families.

Preliminary Sketch

Project Description From families, to clans, to tribes, to nations, humans have always sought protection and security by forming groups. In doing so we have segregated ourselves at times claiming our own land and resources. As separate entities we would benefit more from collaboration, team work, common goals, and trade. This is exemplified in symbiotic relationships between organisms. In those terms, Russia and USA are in a “Competitive” relationship, but they need to look to nature and move to a “Mutualistic” relationship. For example, the flower and the bee, the flower provides food for the bee and the bee pollenates the flowers. Due to high pesticide use, bees get confused and cannot find their way home. It’s imperative that everyone know why they are important and my proposition is to create an interactive educational center. It is comprised of four rooms that include narrow hallways that make a maze, as the visitors enter a new room the door is locked behind pushing them to move forward. In the second room there are two exits. One leads into even tighter hallways and eventually leads back to the beginning of the journey forcing the visitor to start again, and the other leads into a large room that’s open to the sky above. The point of this maze is to make the visitor feel like the bee that can not find its way home.

The Dire Strait Project Details Summer 2018 Conceptual Design By: Djordje Boskovic

Background The Diomedes islands are separated by the bearing strait, the date line, and the border between Russia and USA. Physically these islands are already united, separated only by 3.8 km of water that turns into an ice bridge in the winter, but psychologically they are literally night and day. The objective of this concept is to unite the intangibles. They are separated by the time difference which is 21 hours, giving them the nicknames yesterday island and tomorrow island. The ever-lasting feud between two global super powers at times fighting wars, imposing sanctions, and limiting travel. The question becomes how do we break down our invisible walls and help each other for the greater good.

Photography has always been my passion, I never go on vacation without a camera. I own three, including the DSLR Canon Rebel, the micro DSLR Olympus Pen, and a film SLR Canon A-1. While shooting I’m always in search of a good angle or the right lighting, in combination with aperture and shutter speed for the perfect picture. I don’t believe in photoshopping pictures, so all of these are the original files from the camera.

I started playing guitar in high school and ever since I’ve been passionate about music. I also enjoy modeling in AutoCAD, so I decided to create a model guitar in my free time. By measuring the dimensions of my guitar, and using basic 3D modeling techniques, I was able to create an accurate replica in 3D space.
