firms and this week we are speaking to - Alan Young from Melrose & Porteous Tell us about your role within Melrose & Porteous? I am a Property Assistant to Debbie Scott and help with all of the day-to-day dealings within the Property Department. My days are usually spent between our Duns and Eyemouth offices.
What keeps you busy when you’re not at the office? I like to spend time with my fiance shooting and working on/driving cars. Not all at the same time obviously.
How long have you worked with the firm?
Where’s your favourite place in the Borders?
Nearly 6 years
There is nothing like your home Town. It would have to be the view from the top of the Hardens Hill at Duns looking over towards the Cheviot Hills.
What do you enjoy most about your job? The variety. I like seeing different properties all over the Borders and what people have done to make a house their home. Also being the person to bring good news about a house selling or an offer being accepted gives me great pleasure.
Tell us about your home or dream home? My dream home would be a large country estate with lots of land but I need to win the lottery first.
What would be your ideal holiday? I have been lucky enough to visit a lot of places but to visit Machu Picchu is still at the top of my list.
What’s your greatest achievement? Probably becoming the ‘National Kart Racing Association - British Open Champion’. My family invested a lot of time and money when I was younger and I was lucky enough to win lots of races all over the U.K.
BSPC Member Firm Melrose & Porteous
Name two things you can’t live without? Internet and excessive amounts of food.
What’s your favourite Borders eatery? Oblo in Eyemouth
Who is your favourite author/ artist or designer? My favourite author is J.R.R. Tolkien. I read The Lord of the Rings when I was young and loved it.
What’s playing in your car right now? Radio 1
What natural talent would you like to have? I would like to be able to play a musical instrument. It was something I couldn’t do at school no matter how much I tried.
