Loved the storyBy Frank RoeberLoved the story. Was hooked right off the bat and couldn't wait to see where it went. Linda Palund did an excellent job of allowing you to get to know each character and weaving them together. The mystery of who did it and how kept me interested. Easy read and I must say very enjoyable, hard to put down! Look forward to her next book!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Modern teen life in LA...By CharleyLinda Palunds The Little Black Dress falls only gently into the genre of teen LGBT fiction; it is mainly a mystery story, but even that shares pride of place with its setting seen through the

eyes of its teenage protagonist, Lucy Linsky. That setting is the unique culture of the wealthy Los Angeles neighbourhoods of Beverly Hills and Bel Air. When three of the high school boys are described as driving a Corvette, a Porsche and a Lotus to school, believe me, this is not an exaggeration. This locale has certainly been depicted before, but rarely from the view of an intelligent teenager. The strength of Ms Palunds narrative is the natural way she gives us Lucy, mainly through her dialogue, which rings very true. To her credit, neither Ms Palund or Lucy overdo the excesses of this shallow culture awash in money and status symbols. It is, I think, also creditable that not a lot of attention is paid to gayness, Lucys or anyone elses. It is taken as a matter of course and there are no shocked, regressive parents, shunning peers and tortured victims other than the murder victims themselves. This acceptance is an actual upside of the wealthy LA/California culture. It would not be so in Alabama or Nebraska, but its a very positive thing to show a little bit of utopia that is rooted in reality. The evil that lurks in this utopia however, that takes Lucys lover, is surprisingly grisly and reveals a dark side reminiscent of Frank and his friends in David Lynchs Blue Velvet. It is the intrusion of another reality into this dreamily superficial landscape. It is a crime of men against women, it is a reminder of the real world, and it adds a feminist dimension to an undercurrent already bubbling under in the novel. The read was smooth, compelling and fast paced, difficult to stop once you are started; Ms Palund is a real storyteller with a fine ear for dialogue and we look forward to the further adventures of Lucy.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Excellent Murder Mystery!By Ally McMahonLittle Black Dress is a thrilling murder mystery. Love, loss, motivations, cover-ups, deceit, suspense, and mystery rule in this captivating story.Author Linda Palund creates an unforgettable tale of one girl's mission to find the killer of her best friend and first love, Carmen. Lucy is haunted by dreams of Carmen in her little black dress. Unable to shake the feeling that Carmen wants Lucy ti find her killer, Lucy sets out to do just that. With the help of her friend Seth, Lucy discovers who the killer is and the heart wrenching story of Carmen's final moments. The suspense mounts as we await to discover if Lucy can survive her investigation and will justice be done for Carmen. This may be the best murder mystery I have read all year. It easy transcends age groups and holds your attention longer after you put it down. I am truly impressed and I highly recommend it! Carmen is the most beautiful and desirable girl Lucy has ever known, and when Carmen is savagely murdered, Lucy's teenage life crumbles. She is devastated by the loss of her first love, and when it appears the killers might never be found, she vows to solve the murder herself.Together with her best friend Seth, who is not only a master computer hacker but also the son of LA's new Chief of Homicide, they gain access to the gruesome autopsy reports. They learn the true extent of the horror inflicted on Carmen, and Lucy gets closer to understanding the secret behind Carmen's little black dress. After another beautiful girl is murdered, they uncover the brutality lurking within the corridors of their privileged Los Angeles high school. They put their lives on the line to come face to face with the murderer himself.
