Platte County R-3 Library Media Center 1501 Branch Street - Platte City, Missouri 64079 (816) 858-2822 Ext. 1272 Librarian: Valorie A. Stokes stokesv@platteco.k12.mo.us

Platte County R-3 High School Library Media Center Statistics Second Semester 2011-2012 Second semester in the PCHS LMC proved to be a busy one. Students in communication arts and some of the social studies classes worked on research papers or projects for a good portion of the semester. Interspersed with their visits foreign language, art, music, science and health classes came in to use the lab for various activities and assignments. Even moreso than the fall semester, the lab and library were both booked solidly during the spring. The lab also served as a testing site for the EOCs in the second week of May. Throughout the semester library personnel concentrated on weeding the collection; a total of 1561 items were weeded because they were damaged or worn, had not circulated in recent years or contained outdated information. Many of these items were recycled or repurposed by the art and communication arts classes to create altered journals and recycled home furnishings or dĂŠcor.

Library Advisory Committee Launched This Spring During second semester, the new library advisory committee composed of members from the student population, the staff and some of our parents met a couple of times to help determine the library’s future focus and direction. The group drafted vision and mission statements for the PCHS Library and brainstormed ideas for future projects and activities the LMC could hold or sponsor. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Stokes.
