We are a family business based in sunny Brighton, in the south of the UK. We design and make colourful and fun clothing with a conscience, for babies and kids. You’ll find beautiful baby clothes, gifts and children’s clothing from newborn to age 7. We make high quality, long lasting, fun, colourful designs that are comfortable and that kids love to wear. The bonnie mob represents the fearless and the fun-loving. HOW IT ALL BEGAN...
Knitwear designer and mum-of-two Tracey Samuel founded The bonnie mob with a vision inspired by the clothes of her own childhood. Destined for a career in design, Tracey had a free spirited upbringing, running around the Scottish countryside, sketchbook and pencils in hand. She graduated from Glasgow School of Art with a degree in fashion and textiles, and went on to complete a Masters Degree at St Martins College of Art & Design, emerging in the early ‘90s alongside the likes of Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen. Tracey went on to have a successful career designing for Paris fashion houses including Sonia Rykiel. However, splitting her time between her Brighton seaside home and her cute Parisian flat in Montparnasse became more difficult once she started a family. Inspired by the arrival of her daughter, Alice Bee, Bonnie baby was born in a back bedroom in 2005. Ten years on, and as her children grew, Bonnie baby became The bonnie mob...
Infused with Tracey’s design DNA, we have become best known for modern, colourful and distinctive baby and kids knits. From rainbows to shooting stars and bunnies, the designs draw on the nostalgia of Tracey’s childhood, with a quirky, playful twist. Much like the outfits of her childhood, Tracey passionately believes that we shouldn’t throw clothes away and our collections focus on quality, durability and attention to detail. We are committed to using only the best suppliers, many of whom we have been working with since our launch. Created with the motto ‘Buy once, buy well, pass it on’ each piece Tracey designs is intended to be played in, well-loved and worn again by the next generation of Bonnie mobsters.

Really cute designs and great quality. The clothes wash and wear well. Gorgeously soft and beautifully designed, I love BM clothes! The designs are so appropriate for kids but still have an edge and are unique.

WE KNOW OUR KNIT
Our fabrics and knits are of the highest quality. Where yarn is concerned we don’t believe in compromise. Personally sourced by our self-confessed yarn geek designer Tracey, Our knits are made to last and are machine washable – they really are the best! Our yarn suppliers carry the OEKO-TEX® mark and our chosen dye houses do not use toxic azo dyes (which are commonly used in the fashion industry). It is imperative to us that our materials have been tested for all the harmful substances we don’t want. Our prints are drawn and designed by the team at BM HQ. They’re original, that’s why we ask you not to share them on social media before they’re delivered, keeping the copycats at bay for as long as possible!
Because we produce clothing for babies and children, the materials we use and how they are made is really important to us. It is vital that we reduce the use of unnecessary and harmful chemicals that are close to our little ones’ delicate skin. Our organic cotton is GOTS certified. This is the strictest global standard for organic materials and it certifies the path – from farming to finished product. As an extra measure, our suppliers hold an OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certificate, to ensure our materials are healthy for nature, maker and user. Our yarn suppliers hold the OEKOTEX® mark and our chosen dye houses use dyes without Azo’s (which are common in dyes), so we know they have tested for all the harmful substances we don’t want. We recommend that our garments are machine washed at a lower temperature of 30 degrees and never tumble dried. This is much better for the environment as well as for the durability of the item. By using natural fabrics and yarns we also lessen our contribution of synthetic fibres polluting our seas, which has a huge impact on our planet.

As parents, we want to create a bright future for our children and this is at the heart of every decision we make as a company. When it comes to producing clothing, throwaway fashion is a very tempting choice. It’s cheaper, it’s quicker and it is profitled. However, our industry has a lot to answer for. We are responsible for a huge impact on our planet, causing damage to the environment with water and energy waste and the use of harmful chemicals. Not to mention the negative effects on human health and the unfair working conditions of millions of people. We strongly believe that this has to change. As a brand we are committed to sustainability and for us, this is an ongoing process. We are continually learning and adapting our designs and processes to ensure we are proud of the garments we produce. Where we have choices, we always put sustainability over profit. As with many things in life, it’s definitely not black or white. Sustainability comes in many shades and this means doing as much as our resources allow. But we are pleased to say that we already have so much to shout about.
When we talk about caring for the future of our families, this extends to everyone who is a part of the process of making a garment from The bonnie mob. We expect that everyone involved should be happy and healthy. We have worked with many of our factories in Hong Kong and China since 2004, and we are proud to say that they have become part of The bonnie mob family. We’ve grown together and have shared values. We enjoy our visits to see them, and know many of the staff there – from the talented pattern makers to the hardworking security. Our factories ensure their employees receive a living wage and are treated fairly. The workplaces are clean and tidy, not cramped, with strict standards for workplace safety and a 40hour working week. We also support and promote the Fashion Revolution initiative, following the preventable tragedy at the Rana Plaza, Bangladesh. Knowing #whomadeyourclothes is vital.
