ANTHONY BOND Vice President, Oil & Gas

Leading BOND’s Oil & Gas business unit, Tony serves a direct, key role in winning work and exceeding client expectations. Tony has shown tremendous leadership in developing BOND’s New Haven, CT office and extending the firm’s footprint to include various MidAtlantic markets. Tony is a fifth generation Bond who grew up in the construction industry. He has many years of hands-on construction experience concentrating on complex logistics for academic, corporate and utility clients. Having served as both project manager and superintendent on multiple projects, he is highly efficient and responsive in navigating complex technical and business issues. His focus on safety, quality and cost have made him instrumental to many different project types and sizes.

BOND completed the required quantity of main replacement per the contract and the owner’s obligations to the Public Service Commission (PSC) by utilizing hydraulic speed shores for trench sheeting. This equipment decreased the amount of wood (timber and other sheeting components), lowering the material cost to sheet excavations as well as time to install sheeting. Services were installed into business and residential dwellings as directed by the owner. All the work completed by BOND was done with a high standard of quality and safety.

BOND was selected by ConEdison to install 6,250 linear feet of a major gas pipeline in the Bronx. The project presented several challenges that BOND was able to overcome and manage. BOND successfully installed a welded connection steel main through a network of existing utilities in an urban setting. This project had many challenges and included: work hour stipulations, congested city streets and coordinating with vendors to offload delivery of materials. BOND met these challenges, contributing them to becoming a preferred contractor of Con Edison.

The scope of this project involved the demolition of the existing meter station in addition to regulating the site and installing updated infrastructure with new technology. Details included: prefabricate the new meter and regulator building piping, FRP meter, regulator and DAC building foundations, set meter regulator, electrically outfitting, paint piping and install controls. The meter building is connected to the interstate gas transmission line, the regulator building is connected to the meter building with the regulator building tying into the local distribution gas company underground piping system.

The Towantic Meter Station project scope and location provided BOND a competitive opportunity to demonstrate its passion and quality to a strong client, Gemma Power Systems. The Towantic Meter Station project was a greenfield job which called for furnishing, fabricating and installing a natural gas meter station feeding Gemma Power System’s new gas fired power plant in Towantic, CT. The scope also included tie-in to the existing main, 500 ft run of 16� CS coatings, pressure test, electrical, controls and all associated civil and mechanical work.

BOND self-performed this pipeline installation and supplemented the project with specialized subcontractors to complete the project. The scope of work included: the installation of a 48-inch cased crossing under Interstate 95 via pipe ramming, a 24-inch cased crossing under MBTA tracks via an auger bore, installation of approximately 3.8 linear miles of pipe through 3 residential communities, crossing of major street intersections and approximately 1.2 linear miles of pipe on Route 1.

BOND worked with LMC Industrial Contractors and other contractors on this highly-coordinated site to complete the foundations and building erection on a very tight schedule. The first phase of the project involved the placement of more than 1,000 cubic yards of concrete, as well as coordinating the setting of three compressors and multiple skids within a tight site in order to meet a critical supply date for Williams. The second phase of the project involved the placement of more than 1,200 cubic yards of concrete while working on an active compressor station site to complete the setting of five additional compressors.

Upgrading the vaporizer required major modifications to the heater building to facilitate the installation of a larger heater, new vaporizer, louvers, stack, and vaporizer tower. BOND was hired by EPC firm, CBI Services to perform the following: a structural engineering analysis, building modifications, equipment rigging, existing system removal, concrete foundation and pedestal construction, as well as furnish and installation of the new vaporizer tower with associated work. Also included was the electrical scope and installation of an In-Tank LNG Pump, which required a shutdown of the tank, removal of the pressurized lid and lowering of the pump into the LNG.

Spectra relied on BOND’s collaborative planning and fast-track design / build execution to meet a tightly constrained in-service date. Within a 5-month period time, the project was planned, designed, permitted, constructed, and commissioned. The quick turn-around provided an urgent solution to increased gas flow to help meet industry demands.
