Writer, essayist, journalist, lyricist, poet, producer and graduated anthropologist Michael Horáček needs no further introduction. We were pleased that this self-confident, elegantly dressed gentleman accepted our invitation to a personal meeting. We present to readers this interview held in the pleasant environment of a Prague café.
What are you working on now? On many different things at the same time. But at present on the album entitled “Social Network” (released on 9th October), for which I wrote all the lyrics. It also includes the ballads for the “Czech Calendar” project, composed by Michal Pavlíček and sung by Richard Muller with guests. The main inspiration for this project is Facebook and similar social networks, on which people somehow present themselves. The ballads are written in verse and in the form of a status. Do you use social networks? Yes, I have my own Facebook profile. I get feedback on my posts from people, which is sometimes very inspiring. I have met many interesting people there, whom I would never have otherwise met. Do you think that social networks are motivational, help us in mutual communication? It is a new way of communication. Everything has its positive and negative aspects. In my personal opinion, in the case of social networks, the pros outweigh the cons. One becomes more familiar with the thinking of people with whom one perhaps would not have met in the non-virtual world. And because I am an Anthropologist, it is primarily interesting from this perspective. You graduated as an Anthropologist. How did you begin writing? I come from a family in which everyone wrote from the time I can remember. My Grandfather was Rector of Charles University, my Dad was a dramaturge in the National Theatre and my Mom also wrote. They all dealt with words, and that’s why it was absolutely obvious to me that I would also do something like that.
