bombay sapphire artisan SERIES Year two of the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series had many high points in its search to find the next big names in Visual Arts. With over 3000 submissions nationwide, 20 finalists were flown to Miami during Art Basel to display their artwork and be crowned the winner of the 2011 competition. In partnership with Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, Bombay Sapphire provided a platform for these imaginative artists to showcase and sell their work to the international art elite, galleries, curators and art buyers. Two winners were selected by a panel of judges to receive their own exhibit at Rush Arts Gallery in New York.

ANDRE GUICHARD

ARTIST/NATIONAL CURATOR/JUDGE Andre Guichard, artist, curator, and co-owner of Gallery Guichard Fine Art Gallery in Chicago, has had the privilege of being exposed to art through the eyes of his father who painted throughout his childhood. He was also influenced by his cousin, William Dawson: a late, great outsider artist. Guichard has been painting professionally for twenty years. His works can be found in over 1000 corporate and private collections nationally and internationally, including a special accolade in 2008 when he created an original ornament for the White House Christmas Tree. In 2010, Guichard was selected to be the National Curator and spokesperson for the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series in partnership with the Rush Philanthropic Foundation. His dynamic national relationships, understanding of art’s technical aspects and his ability to see beyond the image have held Guichard in high regard amongst his peers and master artists.

“My work represents a medley of different textures that stimulate the senses, making the art not just a thing of beauty to be admired from a distance, but something we can feel connected to through the expression of touch. It’s a way of revealing an image without actually being able to control it, letting it come about itself. I broke down the element of encaustics with lines and the streamlines of simplicity to encourage a sense of openness. In this way, it becomes fluid and free flowing. The patterns and textures formed by the wax embody a sense of times and continuity.” LeRone Wilson is currently a Professional Exhibit Designer/Specialist residing in New York City.
