“Floristry courses are quite rare so this was a great find on Google. The course is really creative; you can add your own style and spin to your arrangements. There’s a great team spirit in class with everyone helping each other out. It’s a really friendly place too, everyone’s so approachable, right from the tutors to the security staff.” Matthew Lewty, Floristry Award Level 1

Apprenticeships for Adults It's a common misconception that Apprenticeships are designed exclusively for young people. An Apprenticeship can work for you, whatever your age.

Adults lead busy lives, so assignments can be completed at home or in the workplace, whatever suits your lifestyle.

Apprenticeships are perfect if you'd like to change your career, or get back into employment.

English and maths are vital, so we'll give you the qualifications required for your occupation.

6

Apprentices receive guidance and support from experienced assessors and employers.

Benefits of an Adult Apprenticeship

An Apprenticeship will give you a formal qualification and improve your career prospects.

Older apprentices bring a wealth of experience to an Apprenticeship and existing skills can be utilised.

You can study an Apprenticeship in the following areas... Accountancy - Barbering - Beauty Therapy - Brickwork - Business Administration Care Leadership & Management - Carpentry & Joinery - Catering & Hospitality Childcare - Clinical Science - Coaching - Computer Installation & Repair Customer Services - Digital Marketing - Electrical Installation - Exercise & Fitness Hairdressing - Health & Social Care - Information Technology - Motor Vehicle Painting & Decorating - Paralegal - Plastering - Plumbing - Roofing PE & School Sports - Teaching - Team Leading & Management

Contact our Apprenticeships Team on 01204 482 036 or email apprenticeships@boltoncc.ac.uk 18

Don't take our word for it, see what our adult apprentices have to say...

Hairdressing Apprentice is a Cut Above the Rest Sharon Edwards, 30, left school at 16 with no qualifications but 14 years later, it's safe to say that her Apprenticeship has transformed her life. Sharon, who has just finished Level 2 of her Hairdressing Apprenticeship, is working at Kee One Hair Design in Atherton and she says that the benefits of an Apprenticeship are immeasurable; Sharon's confidence has grown and she's finally fulfilling her potential. Sharon says, "I've juggled the Apprenticeship with being a busy mum to four children and it's still worked for me. The support I've received in College and at the salon has been invaluable. I've fallen in love with hairdressing and it feels great to be on the career ladder". Vikki Kay, Manager at Kee One Hair Design, said "I'm a big advocate of Apprenticeships and Sharon has been the model apprentice. Her work ethic is excellent."

James Taylor Roof Slating & Tiling Apprenticeship Level 2 Working at Together Housing "I've worked as a roofer for 10 years and I chose an Apprenticeship to further my career. It's a sensible option to take; Apprenticeships aren't just for the young, if you're older and you haven't got any qualifications, this kind of course will help you to progress at work. In roofing, companies are always on the lookout for qualified roofers. I come into College for one week a month but for the other three weeks I'm actually at Together Housing and working on people's homes. It's very customer focused and it's great being practical and using my hands. College wise, the building is new and it's very easy to get around. More importantly, the equipment is up-to-date and the staff are really supportive. I would definitely recommend an Apprenticeship, whatever your age."

Access to Higher Education

Looking for a change in career or progression at work, but haven’t been in a classroom for years? Or perhaps A-Levels weren’t right for you? If so, you might want to consider Access to Higher Education. Access to HE Diplomas are designed specifically for adults who want to progress to a higher level course, such as a Degree or HND, but may not have the relevant formal entry qualifications, or may have been out of the classroom for some time.

Unlock your potential and study one of our Access courses: - Art & Design - Science - Business Management - Social Sciences - Computing & ICT - Social Work - Legal Professions - Sport & Exercise Science - Nursing & Midwifery - Therapies for Health - Primary Teaching

They Survived Access and So Can You! Access to HE has long been viewed as a fast-track route to university. Although the course requires a great deal of commitment, the rewards are plentiful; in 2015 alone, 23,375* students with an Access to HE Diploma were accepted on to a Higher Education course. In June, Bolton College students celebrated their Access success with an 'I survived Access' celebration. Over 100 students united to discuss their Access journey and their next exciting steps into Higher Education. Amanda Walsh, 34, who has just completed an Access to HE Diploma in Nursing said, "Access is intense but I've managed to juggle my course with being a mum, working full-time and volunteering for 10 hours a week, so if I can do this, anyone can.

I've just been offered a place at the University of Bolton to study nursing and I already feel like I’m at an advantage; we've covered parts of the degree course in our Access classes." Other learners have secured places as far afield as the University of London, proving that Access really is the gateway to Higher Education. *The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA).
