Welcome to the 2024 Belvin Angus Female Sale. The past year has seen some exciting times in the cattle industry, with prices never seen before. The cooling of the market over the last month has tempered the enthusiasm somewhat, but the fact remains that feeder cattle are still selling very well, and there is still a shortage of cattle in North America, so the industry should be well positioned going forward. The last three versions of this sale have happened “every other” year. As our cowherd has grown, we have decided to make this sale an annual event. We feel that we have enough cows that every year we can offer females of the quality someone would want to buy, yet still retain enough replacements to keep our herd growing and strong.
The heifers on offer in this sale are a cross-section of what our operation is about. The emphasis on strong cow families, whether they have been 45 years in the making, or just recently added, is apparent in the group of sale heifers. We focus on raising bulls that go work on some of the largest ranches, in the toughest conditions, Western Canada has to offer. Our customers want bulls that will sire high performing, heavy steers, yet leave behind a set of daughters that are as problem free and low maintenance as possible. This is something we try to balance out when selecting bulls to use, keeping performance without sacrificing cowherd efficiency. We
believe that is reflected in the heifers on offer. Our cowherd is never fed grain. The cows are run on banked grass well into December to try and maximize as many grazing days as we can, something that is of extra importance with feed costs what they currently are. The heifers in this sale have been bred to reflect that, and we are excited with what they have to offer. The service sires featured are just as exciting, as they show a glimpse into where our program is going.
We are once again happy to welcome our good friends, the Bohrson Family of Anchorage Farms, to be a part of this sale. With a similar eye for cattle, we feel the Anchorage heifers are a nice compliment to what we have in the sale. New this year we are also welcoming Karly and Bart Boom from Boom Angus with two heifers. Most people around the beef industry in Central Alberta have probably crossed paths with Karly, and we are happy to have this great couple as part of our sale.
Thank you to all the people who have supported our last three female sales, we truly appreciate it. With the early fall, we hope that weaning and field work is wrapping up, and as many people as possible can join us at our sale facility on October 25th. The cattle will be on display all day, with the sale at 5 pm and a steak dinner to follow. If you can’t make the sale, feel free to contact any of the consignors or sale staff, or bid online through DLMS.

These embryos are from the same mating as the feature lot 4 heifer, and will be the last chance to buy embryos from the great Miss Legacy 0190 cow, one of the most potent donor females we have had. With 41 progeny registered in Canada, offspring of 0190 have been featured in our sales for almost a decade. Sons of 0190 were high sellers in 2017 and 2023, with 14 other sons selling across Western Canada, with three more coming this year. Numerous daughters of 0190 are at the top of their contemporary groups. The May City offspring have been popular across the country, and his first daughters to calve look excellent. This embryo mating is a maternal as you can find.
Embryos are located at Bovatech — Guarantee 1 pregnancy if implanted by an accredited veterinarian
This embryo mating is as exciting as you can find, with the $70,000 KT Ranches herd sire Coleman Mendoza 271 crossed with Georgina 121'17, the mother of May City. 121'17 was selected as a $40,000 pick of the cow herd by KT, and is one of the most impressive cows you will find. Perfect udder and feet, deep sided, angular, feminine and moderate framed, 121'17 is a standout phenotypically. She has two daughters to date that are also front end females, and a Caldwell sired son of 121'17 will feature in our 2025 sale. These are this first embryos offered from 121'17, and the mating to the very popular Mendoza, with the maternal strength of his $400,000 valued dam, Coleman Donna 5247, offers a great opportunity.

Lawman was purchased along with Semex as one of the lead off bulls in the 2022 Riverbend Sale in Idaho, while the dam of 171’23 was purchased from the Durie family in our 2021 female sale and has quickly made her mark as a solid producer. Another Revival daughter, Lady Di 196’23 is also an example of the Revival type when it comes to his daughters. Deep and powerful but still with a refined look. The Velasquez sired dam is maternal and perfect uddered, typical of a Velasquez female. The Lady Di cow family originated in our herd when Quinn purchased a cow from the late Ken Cox, and they have been solid producing, no-nonsense females for almost two decades now. The cross of Trademark and Revival should be an awesome mix of calving ease, performance and feed conversion.

Bred April 7 to Heiken Trademark 1018 (safe). Exposed April 11 — June 3 to Heiken Trademark 1018, June 4 — Aug 12 to Woodhill Yukon L033. May 235’23 is an exciting Revival daughter with a different twist on her bottom side. The dam of 235’23 was purchased as a $30,000 feature lot in the 2021 Angus Collection sale from KT Ranches. A daughter of the ever-popular Capitalist 316, the dam of 235’23 is an eye-catching cow with a powerful pedigree. Add the calving ease of Trademark with some of the top performance numbers in the sale and the resulting calf should be very marketable.

MATERNAL SISTER TO SIRE
Bred April 10 to Woodhill Revival H028 (safe). Exposed April 11 — June 3 to Heiken Trademark 1018, June 4 — Aug 12 to Woodhill Yukon L033. Erica 138’23 is an eye appealing May City daughter out of a proven cow with a long track record. A maternal sister sold last year to Kamlah Farms. The first group of May City daughters calved this year and they were good uddered, easy doing, productive young cows, showing the influence of May City’s impressive dam. The cross with Revival should add an extra layer of performance and style to the resulting calf.

Lady Blossom 49’23 is a May City daughter with a touch more frame while still maintaining the femininity and type of the May City females. The dam of 49’23 is still going strong at 8 years of age and has numerous sons working at ranches across Western Canada. The Revival x May City cross on the resulting calf combines our two most prevalent sire groups of our last two calf crops.

Another Trademark x Vegas cross, Georgina 100’23 is also a soft-made, big-bodied female with an excellent combination of calving ease and performance. The maternal side of her pedigree is stacked with top-end cows, with her grandam and great-grandam both at the top of their contemporary groups for production. The dam of 100’23 is a promising female as well.

Bred March 29 to Shaw Caldwell 11432 (safe). Exposed April 11 — June 3 to Belvin Justification 1402, June 4 — Aug 12 to Woodhill Yukon L033.
Blackbird 119’23 is the leadoff Trademark daughter and a feature heifer. The Trademark offspring are very impressive in their ability to combine front end calving ease with top performance and a deep ribbed, easy keeping body type. The dam of 119’23 is a top end Vegas daughter, who goes back to a female purchased from Perrot’s at Agribition in 2018. The influence of Y69, one of the breed's legendary cows, shows though in the Vegas descendants with their type, femininity and udder quality.

Lady Blossom 192’23 is the third Trademark daughter in the sale and fits the mold of her paternal sisters as well. Trademark has been very consistent in his type on both the bull and heifer calves he has sired. The maternal grandam of 192’23 was a top Velasquez daughter and a donor in our program, who produced numerous bulls that were sale features over the years. The mating to Caldwell will offer calving ease at the top of the breed with solid growth and eye appeal.

Emblynette 35’23 is another typical Mercenary daughter, with her moderate, easy keeping body type. Mercenary daughters are some of the favourite and top producing young cows in our herd. A member of the famed Emblynette cow family, the maternal grandam of 35’23 is a CAA elite dam who is still going strong, weaning off one of the heaviest bull calves this year at 12 years of age. The mating to Trademark will leave a calf with BW and CE numbers in the very top end of the breed.

Bred April 26 to Heiken Trademark 1018 (safe). Exposed April 11 — June 3 to Heiken Trademark 1018, June 4 — Aug 12 to Woodhill Yukon L033. The lead-off Limit Up daughter, Lady Blossom 218’23 is an impressive sale feature. The great grandam of 218’23 is a CAA Elite dam and a prevalent donor female here, who has had sons sell across Western Canada to some of our top bull customers like Klaudt Ranches, Barrington Ranch, East & West Ranching Co. Ltd., Hummock Springs Ranch, Illniki Ranch, Vandenhoven Farms and Cheryl Dust. Through two calves, the dam of 218’23 seems primed to follow in her mothers’ footsteps. This maternal backing crossed with the calving ease of Trademark should be a profitable mating. 20

Another Everest daughter, Lady Blossom 290’23 has a strong maternal backing. Her Sky High sired dam is an impressive cow, and stems from one of the best flushes we’ve ever had, Sky High crossed with the 205’12 cow. Bulls from that flush were sale highlights selling across the country, while the daughters have been top producers. The pedigrees of Everest and the service sire, Trademark, are outcross for a lot of the Canadian herdbook, resulting in a calf with calving ease, performance and unique pedigree.

27 Pick of the Heifer Calves
We have decided to offer the pick of our 2024 Heifer Calves as a special sale feature this year. With over 150 to choose from, this years group is really deep in quality on the top end, and offers a combination of proven and new genetics. The group is led off by many daughters from the popular Revival, the first calves from Caldwell and daughters from the deceased Hoover High Country, plus numerous options from the rest of our proven and potent group of herdsires. The embryo calves are highlighted by some of the first Basin Jameson calves in Canada, as well as other matings from our top donors, and from the famed Tres Marias herd in Argentina. This is a unique opportunity to select from a large group of females with a diverse genetic base. Selection to be made by January 1, 2025.

You can’t beat the Lady Blossoms and they jsut flat our produce and make you cash. 3003’s dam, 70’17 has been a money making purchase from Belvin and is a testament of the quality of cattle that their program produces. A maternal brother to 3003 sold to Dorran Cattle Co and was a strong breeding bull for their famous bred heifer sale. A stacked pedigree with some of the most powerful and maternal genetics in the industry represented. As you analyze it, you’ll see Renovation, Rose 1019, International, Charlie, Erica 74A, Emblazon, Grid Maker and when you combine that with the service she is carrying, the Bismarck x 333 - you are lining up for a very exciting first calf. One of Marty Bohrson’s favourite cow families at Anchorage is the Queen 57Z descendants as they fall out produce and weaned off the heaviest calves annually. We do know that 3031 has a lot of value ahead of her and recommend her with confidence.

The Echo cow family is renowned in the cattle industry and when you combine that with the Ozark bull that did so much for us, it clicked really well. This female combines her strong pedigree with a phenotype that is admirable for quality and completeness throughout. Her dam, 111E is a good looking cow that sold to Beliveau in the Anchorage Winter Calving Dispersal. When we add in the potency of the Radville service, you have an exciting to in front of us. Radville has been a great breeding bull and rightfully so when you analyze his pedigree and incredible phenotype.

Bred AI to Brooking Radville 2208 on April 8, 2024 (Safe - sexed female heifer calf).
Christina 3043 comes from one of the never miss cow families at Anchorage as her dam, the 308A female produced a sale feature annually. 308A put sons into the Living Skies Cattle and Ryan Grindheim programs with daughters to Clydevue Cattle, 20/20 Angus and Deacon Ridge. Production value is important in this industry and 3043 has it with 308A on the bottom with the strong Trendspotter on the top who combines two of the breeds greats, Bank Note and 9165. When you combine that with her sexed heifer calf service to Radville, it only gets more stacked with maternal strength of Bismarck and Beauty 333.

Bred to Brooking Radville 2208 on April 30, 2024 (Safe).
Tibbie 3009 is a nice headed, sound made, angular, maternal looking individual that stems from one of the best cow families from Remitall, the Tibbie’s. This cow family produced some of the best bulls to sell through that program such as Rainman 2H, Renown 312F and Touchdown 296J. The Checkmate cattle have been outstanding as that Charlo x Renown combination certainly doesn’t miss. When you are able to add the Radville service to the equation, you have a bred that has a tonne of profitability ahead of her in short order.
