PAR KS & RECREATION

SUPPORT BOERNE

Here at Boerne Parks & Rec, making life enjoyable is our number one goal. We maintain over 400 acres of green spaces and five and a half miles of trails; we run athletic programs that make fitness fun; we organize classes, festivals, events, camps and much more. It’s our honor to provide these services for Boerne. We couldn’t ask for a more engaged and supportive community. That sense of community drives us to keep improving the quality of life in our town. Help us make Boerne the best it can be by supporting the City of Boerne Parks & Recreation Department.

Get Involved! To learn more about these opportunities, contact us at:

(830) 248-1635 parksinfo@boerne-tx.gov 1017 Adler Street

There are lots of ways to get involved! ADOPTING A PARK OR TRAIL | VOLUNTEERING AT AN EVENT | GIVING A DONATION These are just a few examples. Together, we’ll keep making Boerne a wonderful place to visit and an even better place to live. 6

Thank You

FOR SUPPORTING YOUR PARKS! VOLUNTEER AT AN EVENT We may be biased, but we think Parks & Rec events are some of the best times in Boerne. Come lend a hand at our events. It’s a great way to have fun while supporting your community and earning service hours for work or school. UPPORT US THROUGH S ADVERTISING Promote your organization by advertising with the Parks & Rec Department. Increase name recognition with an ad in next year’s guidebook or a banner on one of our softball field fences. Get the word out by sponsoring an event or running a commercial during a Movies in the Park night.

ADOPT A PARK OR TRAIL Nothing brings people together like volunteering in the great outdoors. Adopting a Boerne park or trail is a great way to boost teamwork through community service. We’ll put your group to work doing litter pickup, landscaping, weeding, watering, planting and more. It never fails to create a bond. Take it from someone who knows, like these past and current Boerne park adopters: Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 688 City Lake Park River Road Park Veterans Park Boerne Soccer Club - FC Thunder City Park Boerne Middle School North Cibolo Trail

MEMORIAL TREE PROGRAM

Looking for the gift that will last a lifetime? How about several lifetimes? With our Memorial Tree Program, you can honor your loved ones for years to come and give a gift to the whole community. Memorial trees are planted in our city parks in the fall, and each tree is marked with a commemorative plaque in the honoree’s name. MEMORIAL BENCH PROGRAM Sitting on a park bench to watch the world go by is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Commemorate your loved ones with a memorial bench in one of our city parks. Each bench has space for a plaque to recognize the organization, donor, or loved one being honored.

KINDERPARK

ROEDER PARK

111 Water St.

104 Roeder St.

Located at the corner of Water St. and Highland St., Kinderpark, formally known as Optimist Park, was developed in 1997 with the support of the local Optimist Club. The Optimist Club supported the purchase of playground equipment and development of the site, which was an abandoned city well site.

Roeder Park is a 1.8-acre neighborhood park. As a neighborhood park, Roeder Park is designed to serve the needs of its local residents. The residents who surround the park have asked that it remain a simple green space without amenities, and so it is.

In 2016, this park received a complete make over and upgrades along with the new name “Kinderpark”. The fenced and shaded park is very popular with families with younger children. The playground is unique and exciting. The kids are having a blast sliding, climbing, swinging and just enjoying the beautiful setting under the large oaks. Kinderpark is perfect for small gatherings and birthday parties, all first come first serve. Curfew: 10:00 pm - 6:00 am Amenities: • Parking • ADA Accessible • Covered Pavilion with picnic table • Benches

Curfew: 10:00 pm - 6:00 am History: Roeder Park honors the memory of Aaron and Allen Roeder, twin brothers who were killed serving their country in World War II. The park was made possible when Boerne residents C.T. and Eva Roberts deeded four lots from the Cibolo Park Addition to the City of Boerne on June 18, 1945.

ESTABLISHED 1867 Frederick Street & 700 North School Street The Historical Boerne Cemetery is owned, maintained and operated by the City of Boerne. The cemetery, recognized by the Texas Historical Commission, is the final resting place for many early German and English settlers of the Texas Hill Country. Each year on Memorial Day, more than 700 veterans buried at the cemetery are honored by a memorial service held by the local Boerne chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. During the service, an American flag is placed on each grave. Please note that you need a permit to plant trees and shrubs, install benches and monuments.
