Will Being Happier Make You Healthier?

partner they enjoy being with and can share positive personal experiences with. By the same token, having an inner circle of three or more friends whom you can call for help and who are positive in their outlook is a big factor in being happy.

There are now hundreds, if not thousands, of studies in the literature on happiness. One of the interesting findings is that happy people are also healthier. Not only does being happy lead to better health, but it leads to better relationships, better decision making, living longer, higher incomes, having more friends, greater productivity, longer marriages, higher quality work, stronger immune systems, lower stress levels, and less pain. Also, positive emotions broaden your outlook or awareness, and you are able to take in more information. Negative emotions narrow your view.

People who care about others tend to be happier. Having empathy is very important. In addition, it is helpful to cultivate generosity. Be generous with both your time and your resources. Be interesting and interested in others, and practice kindness. One interesting finding was that it is much better to spend your money on experiences rather than on material possessions. The joy of the material possessions will soon fade. Having enjoyable experiences will add up and contribute to your happiness. Another helpful suggestion included taking up meditation. Just three months of regular meditation will have very beneficial effects and lead to an upward spiral. Getting involved with a religion or spirituality is recommended if that is something you would be comfortable with.

With all these benefits, you are probably wondering if there is anything you can do to be happier. The answer is yes. There are a variety of things that people can do to increase their level of happiness. Here are some suggestions from the various studies. Exercise regularly. Get at least 30 minutes of physical exercise daily. Exercising boosts your mood and increases your energy level. It releases endorphins which make you feel better. It also enhances your sleep, which is very important. It is recommended that you get at least seven and one-half hours of sleep per night. People who get less than six hours of sleep are 30% less happy than if they would have gotten enough sleep. Another finding is the importance of looking on the bright side, especially when coping with difficulties. Being optimistic about the future will greatly improve your level of happiness. The studies have shown that a negative emotion can be quite detrimental; it is important not to dwell on negative thoughts. Furthermore, being appreciative and expressing gratitude is also quite helpful.

One very important point was to commit to cultivating wellbeing over the long term. You must commit to a disciplined program of interventions every day. For most of us, this is not that easy. However, there are ways to create these important habits and make them last. One excellent method is with the use of hypnosis. Hypnosis can help you eliminate unwanted habits and create more desirable ones. It can enable you to remove the resistance and any subconscious blocks that may be stopping your good intentions. Another very important finding is the importance of setting goals and monitoring your progress. For example, one possible goal is to identify areas of interests and then pursue them. You might want to join a club or do volunteer work that has special meaning for you. In addition, visualizing your best possible self and imagining your best future will definitely increase your level of happiness. Recognize the things that make you happy and repeat them.

When looking at the State of Michigan chart using January 26, 1837 Detroit, MI, we find some interesting and challenging potentials for the upcoming year. The following are the major planetary aspects that Michigan will be experiencing in 2018:

Beginning in December 2017 the Progressed Mars (which deals with conflict and confrontation) will conjoin the Natal Moon (which deals with the masses, the common man, and women, including our attitudes around the feminine side of the collective consciousness). With all that is going on around sexual harassment, there is good potential this will come to the forefront in Michigan. John Conyers resigned from public office

· December 2017 to September 2019: Progressed Mars conjoined Natal Moon.

due to allegations of sexual misconduct, and he is probably not the last.

· January thru March, May, June, August, September, and November 2018: Transiting Saturn Sextile Natal and Progressed Uranus.

At the very least there will be heated discussions around this issue. This will continue into 2019; however, starting in June transiting Uranus (a planet that helps us to find the truth through chaos and disruption) will Quincunx both the Natal Moon and Progressed Mars. At this time things will explode in unexpected ways -- one of which could be backlash. However, all the chaos and disruption will help us to see the truth, but the truth will probably be something unexpected.

Adding to the issue of sexual harassment, starting in February transiting Neptune (the planet that deals with illusions and misperceptions, but also gives clarity, hope, and well-being) will Quincunx natal Jupiter (the planet that deals with our common beliefs and the law). Under this influence we will be dealing with issues (one of which could be sexual harassment) where there is confusion about whether this is inappropriate behavior, and/or whether there are legal implications. In January, transiting Saturn (the planet of responsibility,

restriction, and builds structures) will sextile Uranus (which relates to society in general and the automobile industry). Since the automotive industry is centered in Michigan, and automobiles rule the chart of Michigan (Gemini Ascendant) this is very important. Since a sextile is a beneficial aspect, the automotive industry will continue to grow and prosper, and it is also an opportunity for automobile companies to build for the future. Starting in March, Transiting Pluto (who’s transformative influence forces us to see those things that are usually hidden) will Quincunx Natal Mars (which deals with the police). Under this influence there will be issues that will come up around the police forces in this state. This could be corruption, problems that arise around the way civilians are being treated, or issues related to a lack of training. Also in March, transiting Saturn will Conjoin Natal Venus (which deals with the arts, entertainment, and financial institutions). We will probably experience some financial belt-tightening due to austerity measures designed to help balance the budget. However, in May, transiting Neptune will Trine Natal Saturn (which represents our governmental institutions that give order to our lives). Under this influence we will get clarity around our governmental agencies and have a feeling of well-being as to the job that they are doing. During July, transiting Uranus will Square the Progressed Mercury (which deals with our systems of communication, automobiles, public health, and public transportation). Under this influence there could be disruption in communication systems, problems with automobiles (possibly a recall), a public health alert, and/or problems with public transportation. Ancient Body Clock Discovered That Helps Keep All Living Things On Time! The mechanism that controls the internal 24-hour clock of all forms of life from human cells to algae has been identified by scientists. Not only does the research provide important insight into health-related problems linked to individuals with disrupted clocks - such as pilots and shift workers - it also indicates that the 24-hour circadian clock found in human cells is the same as that found in algae and dates back millions of years to early life on Earth. Two new studies out tomorrow, 27 January, in the journal Nature from the Universities of Cambridge and Edinburgh give insight into the circadian clock which controls patterns of daily and seasonal activity, from sleep cycles to butterfly migrations. One study, from the Institute of Metabolic Science at the University of Cambridge, has for the first time identified 24-hour rhythms in red blood cells. This is significant because circadian rhythms have always been assumed to be linked to DNA and gene activity, but - unlike most of the other cells in the body - red blood cells do not have DNA. Akhilesh Reddy, from the University of Cambridge and lead author of the study, said: “We know that clocks exist in all our cells; they’re hard-wired into the cell. Imagine what we’d be like without a clock to guide us through our days. The cell would be in the same position if it didn’t have a clock to coordinate its daily activities. “The implications of this for health are manifold. We already know that disrupted clocks - for example, caused by shiftwork and jet-lag - are associated with JANUARY 2018

metabolic disorders such as diabetes, mental health problems and even cancer. By furthering our knowledge of how the 24-hour clock in cells works, we hope that the links to these disorders - and others - will be made clearer. This will, in the longer term, lead to new therapies that we couldn’t even have thought about a couple of years ago.”

darkness, their DNA was no longer active, but the algae kept their circadian clocks ticking without active genes. Scientists had thought that the circadian clock was driven by gene activity, but both the algae and the red blood cells kept time without it.

For the study, the scientists, funded by the Wellcome Trust, incubated purified red blood cells from healthy volunteers in the dark and at body temperature, and sampled them at regular intervals for several days. They then examined the levels of biochemical markers - proteins called peroxiredoxins - that are produced in high levels in blood and found that they underwent a 24-hour cycle. Peroxiredoxins are found in virtually all known organisms.

Andrew Millar of the University of Edinburgh’s School of Biological Sciences, who led the study, said: “This groundbreaking research shows that body clocks are ancient mechanisms that have stayed with us through a billion years of evolution. They must be far more important and sophisticated than we previously realised. More work is needed to determine how and why these clocks developed in people - and most likely all other living things on earth - and what role they play in controlling our bodies.”

A further study, by scientists working together at the Universities of Edinburgh and Cambridge, and the Observatoire Oceanologique in Banyuls, France, found a similar 24-hour cycle in marine algae, indicating that internal body clocks have always been important, even for ancient forms of life.

Additional funding for the studies was provided by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the Medical Research Council, the French Agence Nationale de la Recherche, and the National Institute of Health Research.

The researchers in this study found the rhythms by sampling the peroxiredoxins in algae at regular intervals over several days. When the algae were kept in

Sometimes, vulnerable thoughts or feelings of abandonment my subconsciously arise at this time. 3-5pm is the time of the Bladder when metabolic wastes move into the kidney’s filtration system. This is the perfect time to study or complete brain-challenging work.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine it is believed that each organ has its point of highest energy and lowest energy.

Another cup of tea is advised as is drinking a lot of water to help aid detoxification processes. Feeling irritated or timid may also occur at this time.

This 24 hour cycle is believed to help us know when to exercise, eat, have sex, rest and sleep. It also acts as a way to communicate with a particular organ or meridian (see chart)the energy channel of the body.

5-7pm is the time of the Kidneys when the blood is filtered and the kidneys work to maintain proper chemical balance.

5 am to 7 am is the time of the Large Intestine making it a perfect time to have a bowel movement and remove toxins from the day before. It is also the ideal time to wash your body and comb your hair. It is believed that combing your hair helps to clear out energy from the mind. At this time, emotions of defensiveness or feelings of being stuck could be evoked. 7-9am is the time of the Stomach so it is important to eat the biggest meal of the day here to optimize digestion and absorption. Warm meals that are high in nutrition are best in the morning. Emotions that are likely to be stirred at this time include disgust or despair. 9-11am is the time of the Pancreas and Spleen, where enzymes are released to help digest food and release energy for the day ahead. This is the ideal time to exercise and work. Do your most taxing tasks of the day at this time. Emotions such as low self-esteem may be felt at this time. 11am- 1pm is the time of the Heart which will work to pump nutrients around the body to help provide you with energy and nutrition. This is also a good time to eat lunch and it is recommend to have a light, cooked meal. Having a one hour nap or a cup of tea is also recommended during this time. Feelings of extreme joy or sadness can also be experienced at this time. 1-3pm is the time of the Small Intestine and is when food eaten earlier will complete its digestion and assimilation. This is also a good time to go about daily tasks or exercise. 12

This is the perfect time to have dinner and to activate your circulation either by walking, having a massage or stretching. Subconscious thoughts of fear or terror can also be active at this time. 7-9pm is the time of Circulation when nutrients are carried to the capillaries and to each cell. This is the perfect time to read. Avoid doing mental activities at this time. A difficulty in expressing emotions may also be felt however, this is the perfect time to have sex or conceive. 9-11pm is the time of Triple Heater or endocrine system where the body’s homeostasis is adjusted and enzymes are replenished. It is recommended to sleep at this time so the body can conserve energy for the following day. Feelings of paranoia or confusion may also be felt. 11pm-1am is the time of the Gall Bladder and in order to wake feeling energized the body should be at rest. In Chinese medicine, this period of time is when yin energy fades ad yang energy begins to grow. Yang energy helps you to keep active during the day and is stored when you are asleep. Subconscious feelings of resentment may appear during this time. 1-3am is the time of the Liver and a time when the body should be alseep. During this time, toxins are released from the body and fresh new blood is made. If you find yourself waking during this time, you could have too much yang energy or problems with your liver or detoxification pathways. This is also the time of anger, frustration and rage. 3-5am the time of the Lungs and again, this is the time where

the body should be asleep. If woken at this time, nerve soothing exercises are recommended such as breathing exercises. The body should be kept warm at this time too to help the lungs replenish the body with oxygen. The lungs are also associated with feelings of grief and sadness. Chinese Medicine practitioners use this clock to help them determine the organ responsible for disease. For example, if you find yourself waking up between the hours of 3-5am each morning, you may have underlying grief or sadness that is


bothering you or you may have a condition in the lung area. If feelings of anger or resentment arise, you may feel them strongest during the time of the Liver which is 1-3am or perhaps if you experience back pain at the end of your working day, you could have pent up emotions of fear, or perhaps even Kidney issues. Disease is typically the result of damaged nervous systems (unable to direct the body’s functions), lack of specific nutrients, and an excess of poisons. To stay healthy and avoid disease, we need to avoid poisons in the environment as well as in our food. Poisons in modern-day food includes a long list of altered sugars and artificial sweeteners which lead to inflammation and fibrosis that eventually results in disease, structural damage, aging, and death. Wow! And all you were trying to do

With so many diet plans and information on the everywhere, it’s become very confusing. This is understandable because if one diet worked reliably for everyone, it would be wildly popular and we’d be back to the lean people we were 75 or more years ago. Although obesity, diabetes, and cancer weren’t as prevalent one-hundred years ago, pioneers in the field of natural healthcare were trying to develop an understanding of the factors leading to compromised health. In the early 1900’s, Dr. Pottenger Jr. began investigating the diets and hormones that contributed to obesity. Already on the path to understanding the role of clean, chemical-free foods as they contribute to long lasting health, he conducted experiments with hundreds of cats. In his experiments, cats that ate raw food and raw milk stayed the healthiest, as did their offspring. We now know that raw diary (from grass-fed animals) contains healthy CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) along with many other beneficial substances. 14

Although we have lots of these proteolytic enzymes when we’re young, they decrease with age for presently unexplained reasons. The fibrous net of scar tissue that forms makes it appear as if we’ve aged because scar tissue interferes with normal functioning. While a small number of chronologically older people may not appear to have reduced abilities, the majority of adults benefit from supplemental proteolytic enzymes because life is hard on a body. Few people go through life unscathed.

The body is designed to burn a variety of healthy oils and shows appreciation for having ample amounts, responding with increased metabolism and immune function, healthier skin and nails, etc. When it comes to fat-burning, GLA (gamma linolenic acid) and CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) are often overlooked and underutilized. GLA stimulates the underactive brown fat in overweight individuals to become more active which helps burn more calories. Over 500 published research studies support CLA’s ability to exert positive effects on weight loss, preventing and controlling type 2 diabetes, protecting against heart disease, reducing the risk of atherosclerosis and modulating immune response (Healthy Fats for Life, 2004).

Age is also related to one’s mental abilities. Eating fruits and vegetables in a variety of colors provides a range of antioxidants necessary to maintain a healthy body and mind. All major nutrition studies tell us we need at least 10

Excessive body fat is dangerous. When


fat accumulates around organs, it interferes with their functions. In the past, certain sugars called fructose (fruit sugar) had the job of accumulating fat around our bellies to get us through lean times. We burned off the fat, turning it into ketones as needed. Since then, many things have changed. We no longer have lean times each year and most people regularly ingest poisons (including estrogen-like substances) which promote more belly fat and inhibit fat burning. Belly fat has an enzyme called aromatase that turns muscle producing testosterone into more estrogen, resulting in more belly fat. Certain foods inhibit estrogen uptake in the body while others are estrogenic. When our great scientist, Dr. Robert Millikan was young and very poor he set a goal for himself. Condensing his dream of greatness and security into a simple statement, he silently repeated the thought over and over again. This he did until the feeling of greatness and security crowded all other thoughts out of his consciousness. These are his words: “I have a lavish, steady, dependable income, consistent with integrity and mutual benefit”

world reshapes itself in harmony with the level to which we have risen. One whose prayer has been granted, rises from his prayer a better man.

As I have said repeatedly, everything depends upon your attitude towards yourself! That which you will not affirm as true of yourself cannot develop in your life!

To change your present state you, like Dr. Millikan, must rise to a higher level of consciousness. This rise is accomplished by affirming that you already are what you want to be, and assuming the feeling of your fulfilled desire.

Dr. Millikan wrote his dream of greatness and security in the first person, present tense. He did not say, “I will be great,” or “I will be secure,” implying that he was not great and secure. Instead, he made his future dream a present fact by saying, “I have a lavish, steady, dependable income, consistent with integrity and mutual benefit.”

The drama of life is a psychological one, brought about by your attitudes rather than by your acts. There is no escape from your present predicament other than a radical psychological transformation. Everything depends upon your attitude towards yourself, as that which you will not affirm as true of yourself, will not develop in your life.

If you seek to realize your future dream, it must become a present fact in your mind. You must experience, in imagination, what you would experience in reality if you had achieved your goal, for the soul, imagining itself into a situation, takes on the results of that imaginary act. If it does not, the goal remains unfulfilled.

The meek men of the gospels are not the proverbial poor, groveling door mats, as a meek man is generally conceived to be, but the Dr. Millikan’s of the world who, while poor and unproven, dare to assume wealth and greatness.

The purpose of this teaching is to stir the highest in you to confidence and self assertion. The command constantly given us in scripture is to arise. If we are to understand the reason for this, we must recognize that the universe, understood internally, is an infinite series of levels, and man is what he is according to where he is in that series.

These are the men who inherit the earth. Any concept of self less than the best robs you, and the promise is, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” In the original text, the word translated “meek” means “tamed, as a wild animal is tamed.” A tamed mind may be likened to a pruned vine of which it is said, “Behold this vine. I found it a wild tree

whose wanton strength had swollen into irregular twigs. But I pruned the plant and it grew temperate in its vain expense of useless leaves, and knotted as you see into these clean, full clusters to repay the hand that wisely wounded it.” A meek man is so self-disciplined he sees only the finest and thinks only the best. He is the one who fulfills the statement, “Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things.” We rise to a higher level of consciousness, not because we have curbed our passions, but because we have cultivated our virtues. In truth, a meek man is one who is in complete control of his moods. And they are the highest, for he who desires to walk with the highest, must keep a high mood. It is my belief that all men can change the course of their lives. I believe that Dr. Millikan’s technique of making his desire a present fact is of great importance. His high purpose was to be of mutual benefit which is, inevitably the goal of us all. It is much easier to imagine the good for all, than to be purely selfish in our imagining. By our imagination we can change our future, and to the man of high purpose, this is a natural measure. If you are observant, you will notice the swift echo or response to your every mood and key it to the circumstances of your daily life. When you understand the relationship between circumstances, you will know that everyone you meet is part of yourself. In the creation of a new life, you must begin with a change of mood which opens the door to a higher level. Start now to mold your life around a community of high moods. Individuals, as well as communities, grow spiritually in proportion to their higher ideals. If your ideal is low, you JANUARY 2018

sink to its depths, but if it is exalted, you are elevated to heights unimagined. You must keep a high mood if you would walk with the highest. All forms of creative imagination imply elements of feeling, for it is the ferment without which no creation is possible. There is nothing wrong with the desire to transcend your present state. The world would not progress without man’s dissatisfaction with himself. It is natural to seek a more beautiful personal life. It is right to wish for greater understanding, health and security. This is so beautifully stated in the 16th chapter of the Book of John, “Heretofore you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you shall receive that your joy may be full.” Accept my challenge! Embody a new and higher value of yourself as Dr. Millikan did. A nation can exhibit no greater wisdom in the mass than it generates in its units. For this reason, I have always preached self-help. Knowing that if we embody a new and higher concept of ourselves, all other help will be at our service.

You must know, like Dr. Millikan did, that your assumption, though false to the outer world, will harden into fact by your persistence. The perfect man judges not after appearances, but judges righteously. He hears what he wants to hear and sees only the good. Knowing the truth that sets him free, he is lead to all good. Character is largely the result of the direction and persistence of voluntary action; therefore, think truly and your thoughts shall the world’s famine feed. Speak truly and each word shall be a fruitful seed. Live truly and your life shall be a great and noble creed.

Healing Families After the Holidays

· Dad may feel a distance and difficulty crossing barriers caused by upbringing and things he learned from his own parents. It may make him sad and lonely, even while he is enjoying being with his family.

Many people rush toward holiday family gatherings with joy, others drag their feet but go anyway, and some choose not to participate at all. Family holidays present many challenges and even greater opportunities for healing. Here is my Healer’s perspective on the bigger gifts in retrospect after the holidays. Why are family holidays so loaded, and what are some opportunities for healing? · Small children are blissed out with all the fun! Everyone is glad to see the people they love, even if that love is edged with limitations or challenges. But shadows of the past may seem to hover at the edge of vision, and there may be an inner tension and an outer feeling of expansion all at the same time. · Mom looks at her adult children and may be both amazed at their strengths and gifts, and aware of her shortfalls in raising them and how those are still holding them back in important ways. She may wish that she had been as mature as she is now when they were small.

· Adult children may feel as though they return to the family home and regress to a less mature way of seeing themselves. Sibling relationships can facilitate these feelings, replaying all the old ego dynamics, as can relationships with parents. · Where there has been abuse of substances, or emotional, mental or physical abuse all these will be multiplied exponentially. As a Healer who works with the dynamics of soul groups (those that incarnate together repeatedly to evolve and ascend) I feel honored when invited to work with an individual member of a family to access their family dynamic including genetic and soul group contracts. I am deeply respectful of each person’s roles and the greater purposes unfolding in the family. I work to strengthen the positives, so people can own the gifts they have earned and be empowered by them, and help the negatives be resolved and released as people are ready to do so. Perhaps you can imagine how as a Spiritual Healer, I can rise above the individuals and their experiences to the equivalent of a satellite view. From there I can see into the past and into the

This will act as a damn breaker to set free the true nature of body, emotion, mind, spirit and soul for each one affected, when they are ready to receive it. Healing of wounds from the past allows clearing of the toxic debris of life and change. Then the wisdom and strength of each soul in the future can be brought back through time to ease the transition further, making changes seem to be natural and familiar, although they are new.

It’s the New Year and, for many, it’s time to contemplate where life will take them next. What opportunities they’ll be provided. What challenges they’ll face. As we move into 2018, it’s good to understand the concept of goal setting and how it can affect your ability to live a joy-filled life.

I love how I can see that an individual who is very strong, but who sees themselves as vulnerable, weak or lacking influence, may quite reasonably perceive an overbearing individual as a persecutor in their lives. But from this spiritual “satellite” perspective it can be seen that the persecutor is pushing that individual to release their selflimitation and claim their own authority and power.

From the moment we are born into this world, there’s a list of predetermined goals waiting for us. From our first step and our first word, to our graduation from school and our first job, and it continues on throughout our lifetime. And, with each of these benchmarks, our desires, coupled with the expectations of those around us, bring about new aspirations. It’s a normal part of progressing through life.

Like the oppositional weight on a workout machine, the individual may feel like they continue to draw these types of challenges from the world around and feel weaker because of it; when really, they are getting stronger and developing the needed muscles to be whole. They feel weaker because the weight continues to increase until they reach a point where these issues become easy for them to handle. Knowing that this is the case, can help them choose to step into their power and then no longer require that outer resistance and opposition to grow.

By definition, a goal is the result or achievement toward which effort is directed. In a positive light, goal setting can help propel you toward a desired outcome by encouraging forward motion. Giving you the nudge to take action, rather than sit on the sidelines. Encouraging you to fully participate in your life story.

There are soul contracts at work in all our relationships, but most strongly in our families of origin. The dynamics we contract for in childhood become the basis for fulfillment of our purpose in the world. Even if we choose not to spend time with our families, these lessons continue to make us grow. Families are impactful teachers, whether teaching through love or something less than love; the gifts are nonetheless valuable and needed. The strengths you gain by growing and healing through your experiences provide leverage in spirit for others who need it. We are all connected, and you are a gift, always. However, the act of goal setting can sometimes indirectly instill the belief that happiness isn’t achievable until you’ve reached the point of accomplishing that objective – suggesting that happiness can’t be enjoyed until you’ve arrived at a specific place, or state of being. Taking action and moving forward are necessary in the process of manifesting the life you desire. However, you can’t allow yourself to become too focused on what lies ahead, at the risk of delaying happiness and contentment. Instead, it’s important to fully engage in the one thing you have total control over, which is living completely in the present moment. At this time of year, all too often, people place lofty goals by adopting New Year’s resolutions, such as, I want to work out regularly; I resolve to eat a healthier diet; I intend to go back to school. They can become so fixated on the end result, that their life doesn’t feel complete without it. Then, whether or not the goal is reached, each day leading up to that achievement can be spent moving along with blinders on, never really drinking up the experiences along the way. The important message I’d like to convey is that life is, and should always be, about the journey. Goal setting is good, but not at the expense of giving up the opportunity to fully

appreciate the people, places, experiences and challenges along the way. When you’re truly able to balance living in the moment with moving toward your goals, you’ll avoid missing out on all of the beauty that life has to offer. With all the challenges and tragedies witnessed over the past year, it is clearer than ever that our true destiny is not just about materialistic pursuits and the everyday things we all have to do to earn a living – but more importantly, to awaken ever more fully to our innate Spirituality. If we do not do this, how shall we cope with another year of terrorist attacks, war, injustice, and man’s inhumanity to man? How can we cope with national and international challenges, of the very basest kind? How can we overcome fear and the constant destruction of our values, our integrity and our morals? How can we live in peace, surrounded by love and all that is good? Spirituality is the key, for it makes sense of it all. When put into practice, it enables us to discern Truth and to regain our nobility and inner peace – even in the midst of chaos. When we realize that we are Spiritual beings moving through many lifetimes, dealing with karmic patterns that bring joy and opportunity, as well as steep character-building hills to climb; meeting again those we love – and those we are learning to love – when we fully realize this, we are liberated. The Holiday season came and went! Now our minds are focused upon the New Year’s resolutions we made to implement healthier habits. Part of the fear lingers, “Will I uphold my challenge?” The beauty is, the power is in our hands. This is the perfect time of year to make peace with our past, allow it to be what is was, and set new ambitions. The smallest things we do each day to encourage those healthful habits, contribute to the greater whole. We start out with one new goal and make it a habit, until we are ready to add in the next goal. Pretty soon, in a few weeks or months, we begin to see the change. This can be most challenging in the dead of winter. It is cold, snowy, and who really wants to go anywhere? That is why food is the perfect way to start. Studies have shown it is easier and more efficient to take weight off through our eating habits. Begin by eliminating the obvious i.e. sugary sodas, fast food, and then processed food and refined carbs. Set targets you know you can achieve. Then, honor yourself by following through on your commitment. This act is selflove. One of the simplest ways to start, is by making bone broth or a potassium broth (if you are vegetarian). Both boost the immune system, flush out toxins, promote weight loss, and aid our metabolism. Bone broth also protects our joints, helps heal leaky gut, maintains healthy skin and contributes gelatin and collagen to our diets. Both broths are incredibly inexpensive and neither requires a lot of work. Plus, they deliver that warming comfort which is perfect for this time of year! In the end, it is all about your health. Give yourself longevity and vitality this winter!.

Onions, roughly chopped Parsley Garlic Tomatoes (fresh and/or sun-dried) Dried mushrooms (porcini, shiitake or any edible variety) Kombu seaweed (or any variety you have on hand)

Bone Broth Recipe 3 pounds chicken necks/back/feet/ wings

1 teaspoon Celtic Sea Salt 1 teaspoon Black Pepper

¼ c. Apple Cider Vinegar 3 carrots, chopped

Place all vegetables in a stockpot or instant pot. Fill one part vegetable to four parts filtered water. Simmer for 1-3 hours. Strain, season and serve.

3 celery stalks, chopped 2 medium onions, peel on, sliced in half lengthwise and quartered 4 garlic cloves, peeled and smashed 1 teaspoon Celtic salt 1 teaspoon whole peppercorns 2 bay leaves 3 sprigs fresh thyme 1 tablespoon oregano 1 tablespoon turmeric

*Any combination of vegetables may be used, and their scraps. Celery and potato peels are a must though!

Place all ingredients in a stockpot or instant pot. Cover with 3 inches of filtered water. Place on medium-low heat and allow to simmer for 12-48 hours, depending on your preferences. Strain, season and serve.

**Ideally, use organic products and always make sure to scrub and wash vegetables.

*The longer you let it go, the more nutrients it pulls out from the bones.

Start off the new year by perking up your face and skin for a new look. This is the time of year when we look at new beginnings, cleaning up your home to clear out old stale energy and welcome in fresh new energy. One other way to get new energy is to give yourself a facelift. Here are some natural ways to do just that starting out with the “mighty apple”! An Apple Facelift New medical findings prove the effectiveness of apple acids on the skin. Apples contain natural chemicals called alpha hydroxy acids ---or AHA--- that removes wrinkles and the dead cells on the surface of the skin. Dermatologists are now developing a prescription cream containing AHA, but you can make your own at home! Make a thick apple sauce with peeled apples and milk. Cook until soft, then thoroughly blend the formula. Apply to your face and throat. Leave it on for from 15 to 30 minutes unless the acids are too strong for your skin. Apply once a week or as often as your skin will tolerate it. The AHA plus the malic acid in the apple accomplishes a slow, natural chemical peel. But do test the treatment for allergic reactions before applying to your entire face -- a patch test on the inner arm, near the elbow. Such a slow peel may require the better part of a year. Just as this manuscript was going to press, I discovered a new product called New Feeling which can be purchased at health stores. It’s based on AHA and is supposed to be marvelous. There are other products on the market now that also incorporate AHA in their formulas.

first for its potency. If lemon is too strong, add more water. The lemon contains salicylic acid as well as citric acid. It will also peel the face. The acids in oranges, grapefruit, pineapple, papaya, lemons, apples, grapes, and cucumbers are excellent to create wrinkle-free skin, causing the top layer of dead cells to slough off and leave the face fresh and youthful. The malic acid in apples is what accomplishes the peel. Tartaric acid in grapes and citric acid in citrus and other fruits are the cause of the peeling. Mix any of these juices with water, sour milk, buttermilk or sour cream before applying. Sour milk is excellent because of its lactic acid. Use cautiously until you discover how sensitive your skin might be to these powerful natural beautifiers. Add any of the juices of these fruits or milk to your bath water to freshen and purify the skin of your body --- one fourth of a cup to an entire tub. To simply rinse your face, add a tablespoon of these fruit juices to a basin of lukewarm water. Be sure your eyes are closed. And follow immediately with a clear water rinse. Keeping the Dream Alive

He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love.”

One of the biggest reasons for obesity is nutritional deficiencies. That’s right. We put on weight from eating more than our body requires; however, that comes about because of cravings due to deficiencies. Our bodies are made to stay in balance, but if we are lacking vital nutrients to maintain our health, our body will set off mechanisms to eat, despite the weight gain. One of the best things you can do for yourself when it comes to cravings is to eat very nutrient-dense foods and take abundant high-quality whole food supplements. It isn’t just the volume of food that fills us up, it is the nutritional content. It is well-known that pregnant women get food cravings. With what I just told you, can you guess why? Because the nutritional demands are greater with a growing child inside of mom. Prenatal vitamins help, but still might not fulfill all the nutritional demands of mom and baby for several reasons: 1) These vary in quality, 2) They commonly have synthetic vitamins that sometimes the body doesn’t even recognize as food, 3) They often contain nutrient isolates, which is a fraction of a natural nutrient. One common example is ascorbic acid, which isn’t Vitamin C; it is only a small component of the C complex. The body needs the entire complex of a nutrient to be most beneficial. And, as if this weren’t enough, there are even additional reasons that we don’t have room to go into here. Generally, sugar cravings are very common. One of the main reasons for this is a deficiency in protein and/or minerals. So, the next time you crave sugar, have some minerals and protein...what do you have to lose? Oh, that’s right....weight! If you have yeast or fungal overgrowth, you will tend to crave sugar as well. And, if your blood glucose levels go low (hypoglycemia), you may also crave sugar, but eating sugar is the worst thing for that due to the rebound effect (sugar stresses the pancreas and will tend to make your blood sugar go low again).

As the new year starts off, now is a good time to look at the qualities you want to build your foundation on in the new year. It is always a good idea to look within and check at least monthly, if not weekly, as to how you are doing incorporating your goals and intentions into the way in which you live your life. Your personal values, goals and intentions are the foundation of your life, so you might as well be proactive about it. The foundation is what your house is built upon, and when it is not the right consistency, it crumbles and the house starts to shift and break down. Just as if a fault line opened beneath your home. So, what you put into your personal foundation will determine how the rest of your home, or in this case, life, holds up. Mindfully choosing the values you want to incorporate and build stronger into your life can help strengthen or undermine your goals. Intentions can do the same. Being proactive can also be part of the foundation because without action, there is stagnation…lack of growth, a kind of death. Creating and choosing what to put into your foundation is like determining your vision, your purpose in life, and can give you a blueprint as to how to build your life to get your goals met. You can’t build a house on a shaky foundation, or it will topple. You can’t build the house without a blueprint or vision of what you want. You can choose values such as ethics, truth, responsibility, love, transparency, acceptance and openness to name a few. You can also determine your purposes for this year, the focus, what you are about. Write them down and hang them up so that you can refer back to them whenever you have the opportunity… and possibly create a new habit of mindfully referring to them on a regular basis… like every Sunday night or the last Friday of the month. Look at what worked, what you want to do differently and even if you want to amend it. And, watch your dreams come true when you work from a firm, mindful foundation.

Just like every cell in your body has a complete DNA representation of you, you are a complete representation of the Infinite Presence. It only requires your permission to let it OUT. Strongly set a goal or intention...but then surrender. Allow grace to guide you as you listen to what feels right in the moment. Using Crystals to Manifest in 2018

We are now in 2018, numerologically a ‘two’ year. This year we’ll be working with cooperation, and working with others to make things happen. We’ve all heard about setting New Years resolutions, but often when we set resolutions we end up not following through. When we set goals, it often has the intention and energy of something that still needs to be accomplished, making the goal harder to obtain. When we use the tools from the law of attraction, we see ourselves more in the place we want to be, as if we have already accomplished it... as if we’ve already lost the weight, made changes in our diet or whatever our goal is. Crystals are excellent when used for manifesting, because they amplify and transmit energy, including thoughts and intentions. They can be programmed with our intentions. QUARTZ CRYSTAL: Quartz crystal is great for manifesting because of its natural ability to transmit and amplify all energies. It helps us focus and brings clarity to all situations.

To program a crystal you only need one. First, make sure the crystal wants to be used for this intention. Ask the crystal, while holding it up to your heart; it’ll let you know if it wants to or not. You may get a feeling or see or hear something. Hold the crystal on your third eye chakra, while visualizing your new desired goal being accomplished. See and feel your new self after your goal has been achieved. How does this new self feel? Walk? Talk and interact with others? What do you do differently each day now that your goal has been reached? Continue holding the visualization of your accomplished goal for fifteen minutes; the crystal is now programmed with your intention and will amplify this out into the universe, bringing you everything you need to accomplish it. deeper levels of the mind. I find that it is not healthy to have your third eye open all the time; you can absorb negative energy, start to feel stressed, or have high anxiety when around groups of people.

As a psychic, I look into the future as well as the past and present; however, did you know you can have control over your future outcome? We do have freedom of choice barring our karma in this life (lessons you need to work through). Sometimes we can work through karma very quickly, but if we are not a quick study and find ourselves rehashing the past or hitting a brick wall every time we try to move forward... well you may want to redirect your fate and move it forward by manifesting a better future. Yes, you can do that! I find many of my clients cannot seem to let go of the past or release their hearts from a past love, or even allow a new love to come into their life. But what you may not realize, is that it’s all in your power to program for a better future life path. Sometimes when I just cannot get a client to let go of negative issues or past relationships, they find themselves going up against the same issues over and over again. This is when it is time to redirect them to a hypnotherapist, or offer lessons on how to manifest a better outcome through meditation. Law of

attraction is real; what you think- is what manifests in your future. I find that meditation works very powerfully in manifesting and attracting our desired outcomes. When people think of meditation, usually they think of yoga positions and allowing oneself to float on the edges of Alpha thought. However, that is just getting you focused for the real ride into your higher thoughts of manifesting. I am sure you have heard of the saying, You are what you think. If you think you cannot cross the finish line, you most likely will not, or will have a very difficult time getting to your goals. But in seeing yourself crossing the finish line, you will easily reach your goals! Often you hear athletes say that their winning performance was already worked out within their mind before the game even starts. They see their success first in their mind and then it becomes their reality. You can do the same with your own life path. Join my new 2018 meditation workshop series Manifesting. Some of you have your third eye or intuition door open all the time and do not realize it. Society accepts January 1st as a time for new beginnings, it has been that way for centuries. People make resolutions designed to alter different areas of their life, many use that time to stop bad habits. Why all this focus on change? Perhaps it is because people are not satisfied with their life’s position or direction, so they vow to make a change. Why wait for January 1? When I was in pastoral college, I learned a new and exciting phrase, “Up until now.” This phrase means you no longer have to wait till January 1st - that literally every second of your life can be a moment of change. For example, you may be like many other people who spend their entire paycheck the moment they receive it. Now you can say, “Up until now” I didn’t set any money aside for savings. Starting with my next pay period, I’m going to put 10% of my check in a bank account for future needs. Or “Up until now” I used to smoke 2 packs of cigarettes a day, starting now and effective every week, I will reduce my cigarette usage by 50% until I no longer smoke at all. Or lastly, “Up until now” I haven’t spent much time with my family, starting today I’m going to set aside prime time to spend with them on a regular basis. These are just examples of challenges that people face when trying to redefine their lives. Our spirit guides will work with us, encouraging us to make the right change and offer us the support to see it through. “Up until now” can be a catch phrase in your life. For example, “Up until now” I used to wait till January 1st to make changes in my life. Starting today, I will make changes in my life when I sense they are needed. For most people, change is a difficult function. Yet it is 40

through change that we find release and redefine who and what we are. Success comes from having the courage to do things that you don’t have the courage to do. Change requires courage. Many changes seem insurmountable, but once you start things in motion, destiny will step in and guide you to the safest and most expedient path to complete your change. Most people, after they have completed a change, look back on the effort and say, “That wasn’t so hard, why did I wait so long to do this?”

So now repeat after me, I will no longer wait till January to make changes in my life. Starting now, I will make changes in my life when I deem they are necessary, regardless of the date. Happy New Year!

Fear can cause people to hesitate, when it is actually overcoming the fear that will set them free. Make a decision for yourself out of LOVE instead of fear and you will be amazed at the outcome. How to Get What You Want By Faith Brower

So many people feel dissatisfied these days. We want changes in our lives, our children’s lives, and even in the world. We read “how to” books, complain to our friends about people or events, go on diets, start a new exercise program, and fantasize about outlandish ways to get what we want. When I was younger, my sister and I used to ask each other, “If you could change one thing on your body, what would it be?” I answered, “My thighs”. From then on, my thighs became something I was ashamed of and knew were not okay. How I dressed reflected that feeling of “not good enough”. I wanted to run to relieve stress during college. My solution: start running in colder weather, wearing pants. Then spring came, and the dilemma appeared. I wore pants, but the sweat and heat were causing health problems. I had to wear running shorts if I wanted to run. So, I changed my running routes to less congested areas. One day I picked up a book by Richard and Mary-Alice Jafolla. It said that every day I am called to new experiences of freedom. “This moment … is a brand-new moment in your life. You can choose to be more relaxed, more trusting, more forgiving, more loving. You can choose to be whatever you want. The question is: Are you treating this moment in a new way?” I realized I had been focusing on the outer, not the inner me. I wanted to feel more relaxed, trusting and loving, but that could only come from how I chose to “look at” things and people. I had been brave enough to wear shorts and feel the cool air on my legs. What a feeling of FREEDOM! I wanted to feel this more in my life. When I was running in my shorts, I was feeling connected to Spirit, to fellow runners I came across, and did not feel alone, different, or afraid. I felt capable, strong, and a sense of freedom in expressing my true self. What other new experiences of freedom could I have? I decided to focus on positive, supportive and constructive thoughts and feelings, not the ones that brought me down. I realized it was up to me to express my true self to experience a better life. I looked at more of my outgrown beliefs AND replaced them by taking actions that reflected the real me, that girl who LOVED to run in shorts.

tomorrow, or at your next opportunity to dissolve yourself into yourself. This is just an additional winter challenge. It’s a great tool for simple drawings even though you may have thought that Paint was invented just for children. Oh, contrare! In fact, if you want to begin doing art as therapy with me online using this simple method, it is definitely within the realm of possibility.

Hopefully we all made it through to the other side of December 2017, to January 2018, or at least most of us did. This may not be everyone’s favorite month of the year, but it may prove to be a great month for some of us. It might be a stressful or disappointing month, as we at least try to live up to our resolutions or silent commitments we’ve made to ourselves in all the excitement of the preceding holiday season. In actuality, many of us do delay things until that magical first of the year holiday. How many times have we heard or said, “I’ll do this, or this will happen after the holidays are over!”? January was named after Janus, the Roman god of beginnings, gates, and doorways, and was usually pictured with two faces, one looking forward and one looking back. This may help explain why we are accustomed to doing that, especially in January. This concept of looking in two directions at the same time—it can sometimes feel as though we are actually doing that, and the energy and power sort of puts one into a fuzzy brain or a fugue state. A fresh new year is here now to greet each and every one of us—fuzzy brained or not. Some of us will, indeed, make the most of every day, and some may only be waiting for the next highly advertised holiday, the ever popular vista of joy and love of Valentine’s Day followed by Sweetest Day. Oh well, it’s sort of good to have these days to break up the strings of uncelebrated days, isn’t it? I recently read that the National Day Calendar proclaimed September as self care, self-improvement month. Perhaps January will be that month instead for some of us. Don’t feel too bad if you aren’t able to live up to any resolution or commitment you pledged after sipping some tasty libation on December 31st. More likely, you promised something to yourself even earlier. Each day really can be a new beginning, and sheets of paper bound together in a calendar only mark the official passage of time. If you find that you are having trouble getting your energy levels up or generating enthusiasm, I have an idea for you. Microsoft Paint is one of the best programs in which you can flex your artistic abilities without much mess or fuss. I challenge you to try it, or something similar. Today, tonight,


For the purpose of now, however, once at your computer, open up a fresh screen in Paint or a similar program, and draw a picture of who you were in December. Title it, then open a new screen and draw or paint a picture of who you are now, in January. Yes, it can really be that simple. All you need is a quiet space. Don’t linger too long on details. The process of using art as therapy is designed to be spontaneous and simple. If you had something particularly overwhelming happen to you, do a before and after painting/drawing of this event, or the feelings that it evokes. Yes, you have it—one or two of those feelings drawings. Customize this exercise to fit your special, unique self. Select a medium to a large size brush in the program. Be sure to utilize the color palette that is offered, to help express yourself. It will likely take you a few or perhaps more than a few practice strokes or lines before you are minimally comfortable with it. Familiarize yourself with the options you have on the program. When you are finished, title your drawing— in fact, how about creating titles for both pictures, then save them somewhere, just in case you want to send them to me and begin an exciting journey using art to gain insight or resolve issues. For best results, do not obsess over details or correctness of shapes and form, because the only rule is that there are no rules when you are doing this. In fact, you can use simple shapes, lines, and colors to represent yourself and other things you are trying to express. Just relax. You may find this exercise to be way more insightful than you think! Wishes for a very happy New Year to you all! DOES YOUR PAST HOLD YOU BACK? The majority who come to play in this third dimensional reality often allow their lineage to dictate the kind of LIFE they”re going to have. Every aspect of those who have come before them, unknowingly seem to hand down both, desirable and undesirable characteristics. And more often than not the undesirable traits gather more of the momentum. When speaking in oral traditions one should consider favoring the stories that recharge the SOUL, and offers up clear reasoning to those willing to listen, as to why they need to carry on what those who came before them could not. Science has made man believe his destiny is prewritten in their genes. How sad and scary would this be if this were true? Think about it! What if someone came up to you and said “ do not get excited about living your dreams because your life is not your own”. We must, as a collective, begin to live out our aspirations and be the example of how we would like to see those who come AFTER us live their lives. ‘SURRENDER’ to the experience of living fully in grace, forgiveness, and unconditional LOVE, toward every scene in your movie called LIFE. Yes, it may be true that there have been certain challenges set-forth to overcome in the chosen timeline, but HOW you experience these lessons is what will determine how your tomorrow arrives. The BODY in its magnificence is but a filter that has the ability to interrupt free flowing information from both sides of the ether. This interruption is due to the discounted beliefs stored in the flesh by believing it to be their truth. Empty the mental storage unit that no longer serves the present moment. Remain MINDFUL in that all experiences are equally as important. Just on these merits alone a NEW island of plenty will begin to emerge whilst the old one will, submerge. Lineage can play a negative role ONLY if you allow it to. The objective is to replace the data that does NOT serve its host any longer and replace it with a gratifying script that represents their true essence. I believe we are meant to not just survive but to elevate our consciousness in a world created by the creative. Try listening more, along with serving whenever the opportunity is granted. Always go with the feeling that compliments the HEART & SOUL. This ‘attitude of gratitude’ IS worthy of passing down, generation to generation. It’s a New Year, so why not try something new, something you’ve never done before! Why not indulge in some creative experimentation? Trying something new can be very exciting, but it can also cause anxiety; but don’t let that deter you, give it a chance. You might find you have skills you never even knew you had, and would never have noticed at all if you hadn’t given it a go! Be bold and daring; give it your all and love what you do. You can’t lose, there’s no win or fail. It’s just about being, and expressing you. You may just find your true calling ... so won’t you give it a whirl? The Universe’s Natural Rhythm By Gwendolyn Esco Davis

As I look out my window to my backyard, watching the snow fall on the bare branches on the trees, hedges and my hydrangea bush, I see the beauty of the season. We, living in the Midwest, are blessed to experience four seasons – the universe’s natural rhythm at play. The hydrangea bush is beautifully shaped and forms are covered with fresh falling snow. The hydrangea is also so beautiful in the summer when it fully blooms large colorful flowers, and even after the blooms the bush prepares for each season; its rhythm of life in accordance with the universe. In the fall, I watch the squirrels prepare for winter by gathering nuts and berries to store for the coming winter months. The birds, rabbits, honey bees and all the other animals and nature… I can witness in my yard the rhythm of nature. We humans are no different. We too follow the natural rhythm of life, although at different times in life. Our four seasons could be titled: spring, summer, fall and winter. I met a lady the other day at the gym. Her hair was totally gray – beautiful gray hair. We talked for a while and I commented on how beautiful her gray hair was. I also shared that I could not wait for my hair to become totally gray. I learned that we are the same age. I must wait until my natural rhythm reaches that time – or it may not be for me. Understanding that some of our natural rhythms move slower and some move faster – although the rhythms are the same. As Lao-tzu has written, “Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them – that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” My understanding of this statement is that we suffer when we judge that the quality of our life is defined by a long growing season. Let us not mistake quantity with quality. As I learned by watching natural activity of the animals and nature in my yard and the glassing of the snow on my hydrangea bush, our lesson here is to let go and Let God…. and to trust the process. Know that you and every person you have ever had in your life moves to that divine ebb and flow. Feel the rhythm of your reality and let it have its way.
