Live From the Desk: President’s Message It is an honor to serve as your president this year. As I shared in my Change of Gavel remarks, my theme is simple: leaders bring the weather. We cannot control everything happening around us, but we can control how we show up and the environment we create for others. I am excited for the opportunity to build on the Capital Chapter’s strong foundation and continue fostering a community grounded in collaboration, growth, and shared learning, Joanna Hurt, President where members feel supported, engaged, and encouraged to contribute. Whether we have not yet met or have known each other for years, I wanted to take a moment to reintroduce myself. My legal industry career began in 2007 at a small energy boutique in Washington, DC, where I worked as a paralegal. Not long afterward, the firm merged with McCarter & English, and in 2016, I became the DC Office Manager. That same year, I joined the ALA Capital Chapter, which proved to be a meaningful turning point in my career. The relationships I have built and the knowledge I (Continued on the following page)
