How it works


The Project The goal of this project was to develop an innovative idea for an informational service, delivered through technology, in one of the following industries: health, education, or news. After we have arrived at our innovation we did some market research, named it, branded it, and developed some light marketing materials.

The Team Brittany Mikottis media designer Brittany was responsible for creating the visual prototype of the product. She was also responsible for creating a 3-5 animation of the logo. She also contributed to concepting, logo development, choosing the color palette, and business paper design.

Limor Zisbrod identity designer Limor was responsible for creating the logo and creating two additional applications of the logo. She also contributed to concepting, choosing the color palette, and business paper design.

Soo Kim writer/designer Soo was responsible for copy writing, designing a collateral brochure, and designing the business papers. She also contributed to concepting and choosing the color palette.

Between Two Ideas

How is ours different? Our organization is different that these because it is strictly devoted to everyday clothing. We accept clothing of all different brands and sizes. Our goal is have people feel the difference they are making in some ones life by giving them their clothes. The receiver just has to pay for the shipping of the clothing and the donator is given the mailing label to stick onto the packaging and send to the receiver. The profiles that the donators and receivers will make will help the donators and receivers feel connected on a more personal level.

That Thing You Wear To come up with the name of our organization our team our team spent a minute coming up with as many words as possible for each list to the left. After the lists were complete we shared them and found common words we all used and circled the ones we thought were most fitting for our organization. Using the circled words we then started brainstorming possible names for our organization. We settled on That Thing You Wear because of the fun tone that it presents. It was a jumping off point for the attitude of our company.

YOU R A E W We started off focusing on what different icons we can use that relates to clothing. We experimented with hangers and boxes. We wanted to convey our mission of the company to send and receive clothes. We settled on the boxes because it was the most visually effective solution.

Our thought behind the form of this logo was to make it like boxes of clothes stacked on top of each other. Our goal was to evoke a hip fun attitude to spark people’s interest in our organization. The finished logo had a large impact on the visual language of the interface, brochures, and business papers.

Wash U Event That Thing You Wear plans events throughout the country to spread awareness and encourage people to donate their old clothes. This event is at Washington University in St. Louis at the end of the school year when people are moving out. Many people are looking to clean out closets and get rid of items at the end of the school year and we felt it would be an opportune time to get people to donate to our organization.

Other Applications

Part of the project was coming up with two additional applications for our organization. We decided to show what the packaging would look like that the donor would receive to send their clothes in to the recipient. We also decided to make a tote bag because we thought it would be a good way to gain attention for our new organization. People would see the logo on the bag which also directs them to our website on the back so they can learn more.

Our thought process behind making the animation was that we wanted to mimic the action of boxes stacking on top of each other. We thought that this played off the purpose of our organization well and lended itself well to the logo form.

Interface wire framing The focus during the beginning stages of the development of the interface was to determine what screens would need to be shown for the prototype. I decided to show the home page, the search page, and a donor profile page. After the initial approach to the interface my next focus was on navigation. The screens of the prototype need to make it clear how you got to that screen. The goal was to make it as intuitive as possible.

The three screens shown are the home page, the clothing search page, and a donor profile page. These screens aim to show how simple the site is to navigate and donate your clothes.

How it Works On the home page hover over “find a match� and a drop down will appear with the options receive or give.

This box allows the person in need of clothes to tell their story as to why they want the clothes and how it would help them out.

Log in to access your profile and be able to request and donate clothes.

Fill out the search page and then click find a donor to find your clothing match.


This is the general profile information of the donor. We use a first name basis to make it a personal connection.

We make it easy for our donors and receivers to interact. Use these icons to message, add as a favorite, or refer this donor to a friend.

Hover over the “profiles� on the drop down and it allows you to browse donor and recipient profiles as well as an option to create your own

We recommend other donors that have similar sizes and styles to the profile your looking at.

Click on the picture of the clothing to see one image that contains all the clothes in the bundle.
