A WORD FROM DAVID ARGENT

Periwinkle Release

Welcome to the third edition of the Kalynda Chronicle, your bi-annual newsletter created to keep you upto-date with everything happening in and around Kalynda Chase. It is an exciting time to be in the Kalynda Chase community with our new Periwinkle park now open including a half basketball court and KOMPAN play equipment for the children. The Periwinkle release has welcomed five new families into the Kalynda Community with more to come in the second half of 2019. The Periwinkle release has 22 remaining allotments of land ranging from 369m2 to 480m2. With green spaces and a park on your doorstep, it is the perfect place to start out in the property market, or raise a family.

We are thrilled to announce Urbex is now a proud sponsor of the Kalynda Chase Tennis Centre. Tim and Sophie Robinson are Kalynda Chase locals and run the local centre. They run excellent programs catered to all ability levels, and ages. If you are looking to pick up a new hobby, or try your hand at tennis, get in touch with the centre to discuss your options. Tim and Sophie opened the Tennis Centre in February and collected donations and allowed people to stay in the Centre when their homes were devastated by the Townsville floods. Thank you for all the work you do in the community!

LIVING IN

Kalynda Chase

Events!

WHAT'S ON IN AUGUST Bianca and her family have called Kalynda Chase home for a little over two years and are heavily involved with the management of the Community Garden. “I got involved in the start-up of the garden as a way to meet people in the estate with similar interests in growing produce and to show my children what it means to be connected both to the land for food and to people in our community,” Bianca said.

(on a budget...)

UPDATE ANY ROOM WITH A FRESH COAT OF PAINT

REFINISH KITCHEN CABINETS

REARRANGE YOUR FURNITURE

One of the most tried and true budget home renovations is a fresh coat of paint. This is an easy way to help to transform the feeling and ambiance of any room in the house without spending a fortune on extra furniture or add-ons. Paint is fairly inexpensive and is simple to apply. This ensures that money isn’t wasted hiring professionals to conduct renovations. A different colour paint can help change any room without breaking the bank.

The kitchen is a popular area in the house to renovate. However, new cabinets and appliances can be quite expensive. Fortunately, there is another, more affordable remodelling trick. By sanding down the cabinets and applying a new finish, homeowners can achieve the look and feel of a completely new set without the purchase.

While furniture contributes a lot to the overall feel of a room, it also tends to cost a lot of money. Most of the time, a tight budget won’t allow for the purchase of a new couch or dresser. For this reason, it is important to utilise the power of rearrangement. A room can feel completely different even with the same furniture when it has been moved around to different spots. You can do this with furniture from other rooms as well. This essentially costs nothing, yet can bring the feel of a complete remodel.

REPLACE CHEAPER HOUSEHOLD ACCESSORIES When considering a renovation our attention typically turns towards the bigger ticket items. However, even swapping out smaller household accessories can help to shake things up. For example, pillows are littered throughout most homes on couches, beds, and chairs. Changing the smaller accessories throughout your home is a great way to renovate with a tight budget.

ADD MINIMALIST STORAGE IDEAS

INSTALL SOME NEW LIGHTING

Storage is an issue in most households so investing in some minimalistic storage is always a good idea. Small cubby holes and hanging racks are a few great ideas to make storing clothing and other smaller things a breeze. These storage devices can be added to closets and empty spaces throughout the house.

Lighting can play a huge role in setting the mood in a room and is usually an affordable change that makes a big difference. You can opt for a brighter or dimmer setting depending on how you want the room to feel. Colour is another option when it comes to changing the lighting in a room. Small colour accents can help give a room a cooler or warmer feel depending on the shade.

While working in the Garden, Bianca noticed the absence of bees in the area and she expressed this concern to Cr Margie Ryder. After this discussion they set wheels in motion to create an educational and fun event to encourage bee habitation in the Garden. “I have always loved bees as they play a critical role in

food production, which I think we take for granted. 75% of the world’s flowering plants rely on pollinators to reproduce which is scary, because bees are falling in numbers worldwide,” Bianca said. BEE-CAUSE DAY will be held on Sunday the 11th August from 8am and will offer honey bee hive displays information about how they work, native bee species information, gardening tips and a native plant giveaway. “We encourage everyone in the estate to come down and join us on the day. Up-to-date event information will be made available on the Kalynda Chase Community Garden Facebook page,” Bianca said.
