History The Cashton Record has been in this community since 1897. The current owners, Paul and Kim Fanning, bought the newspaper in 1998.

Goods or Services? The Cashton Record provides information to the community about events. This is a service to the people in Cashton. The reporter report on accidents, fires, sports, and other news stories.

What You Can Find/See People who work at the newspaper have to make sure the articles fit on the page. That means you would see people rearranging the writing to fit.

Using Math The salesperson uses math to figure out prices for the advertisements that are in the paper.

Reading and Writing Reporters who work at a newspaper have to write the articles in a way so that other people will read them. They must be able to read what they write so they can find and correct mistakes.

What If You Worked Here? If you worked at the Cashton Record, you would have to be a careful reader to find mistakes. You might have to lay out the articles so they fit in the paper just right. It helps if you are patient and will to try things in a different way! You would also have to be able to type and use a computer.

The Cashton Record employs 3 people. They report on accidents and fires. They attend many meetings to help keep the community informed. The Cashton Record has 1,400 newspapers in circulation every week.

Glossary advertisement - a public announcement of what is available circulation - the number of newspapers that a newspaper prints community - an area that people live and work together in provides - to make available reporter - a person who tells what he/she sees for the news salesperson - someone who sells goods or services service - when you pay someone to do a job for you 13


About the Project The Cashton Elementary First Graders visited many places in order to learn about the goods and services our community provides to the people who live here. A huge thanks to all of the businesses we contacted who graciously allowed us to visit and learn.
