Saturday, July 27 2:00pm Michael Ching, Composer of Speed Dating TONIGHT! Michael Ching's operas include Buoso's Ghost (Pittsburgh Opera Center at Duquesne), Corps of Discovery (University of Missouri), A Midsummer Night's Dream, opera a cappella (Opera Memphis and Playhouse on the Square), and Slaying the Dragon (Center City Opera). Earlier works include Leo (Texas Opera Theater), King of the Clouds (Dayton Opera), Out of the Rain (OperaDelaware), Faith (OperaFest of New Hampshire) and Cue 67 (Virginia Opera). This fall, Speed Dating TONIGHT! will move on to performances at Amarillo Opera and the University of Southern Utah. Buosoâ€™s Ghost is his most frequently performed work, with recent productions at Opera Saratoga, Opera New Jersey and Amarillo Opera. He has arranged a variety of spirituals and American songs. His orchestral work has been performed by the symphonies of Atlanta, Rochester, North Carolina, Memphis, and the San Jose Chamber Orchestra which recorded his Piano Concerto. In 2011, his collaboration with storyteller Margaret Wolfson, Psyche and Eros, was performed at the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Festival. From 1992-2010, Michael was General and Artistic Director of Opera Memphis. He began his career at the Houston Opera Studio where he studied with Carlisle Floyd. He has been guest conductor at Opera New Jersey, Hawaii Opera, Nashville Opera, Shreveport Opera, Amarillo Opera, Fargo-Moorhead Opera and is currently the Music Director of Nickel City Opera in Western New York. He is also chair of the board of the Douglas Moore Fund. Michael is a graduate of Duke University where he studied with Robert Ward. Eileen Downey, Music Director of Speed Dating TONIGHT! Eileen Downey, received a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance and a Master’s Degree in Collaborative Piano from Michigan State University. She is currently Lecturer of Piano at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, where she is a vocal coach and collaborative pianist, as well as a rehearsal pianist for Knoxville Opera. She was previously a member of the adjunct faculty at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, TX, where she also frequently collaborated with the Texas Christian University School of Music. Ms. Downey is an alumna of the Merola Opera Program, and was one of the 2011 staff accompanists for AIMS in Graz. Other programs in which she has been involved include SongFest, Project Canción Española, Aspen Opera Theater Center, Opera North, and the Opera Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca, Italy.
Michael D. Hogue, Tenor This Season at BMC: Falstaff (Bardolfo) Speed Dating Tonight! (Dater) Michael received his Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance and Music Business from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. Recent roles include Tebaldo in scenes from I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Dr. Cajus in Falstaff, Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte, Parpingol in La Bohème, Don Basilio in Marriage of Figaro, Bill in A Hand of Bridge, and Dr. Blind in Die Fledermaus. Michael currently studies with Valerie Haber.
