Millions of people suffer from bronchitis. It is nothing new, and you are not particularly special because you are one of them. Many people suffer from bronchitis every time (or nearly every time) they have any type of cold. In fact, almost everyone suffers from bronchitis at least once in their lifetimes. Most times bronchitis will linger for a few days and then heal on its own leaving you with a cough that will not go away for a few days. If this happens to you a lot, then you may be suffering from something that is much more serious than bronchitis such as emphysema or asthma. It would be a good idea to contact your doctor at this point. You can tell that you have bronchitis if you bring up yellow or discoloured mucus. Everyone produces about an ounce of secretions every day, but it is generally a clear mucus and you swallow it when you swallow. You may do this with the discoloured secretions as well. When your bronchial tubes become infected, they produce much more mucus than they normally would. Other signs of bronchitis are a sore throat, wheezing, breathlessness, congestion and a slight fever and chills. If you suffer from any of these symptoms or a combination of them, there is a good chance you have bronchitis. Sometimes sinusitis (an infection around the bones of your nose) can also cause the discoloured snot mentioned above, fooling you into thinking you have bronchitis. The biggest difference I have found with sinusitis as compared to bronchitis is that sinusitis often triggers a headache because of the build-up of pressure in the sinus cavities. Okay, enough talk about snot. I am starting to feel queasy here. Irritants such as smoking or dust from a particular occupation cause most bronchitis. If you were to take away these irritants, you would find that you would get bronchitis much less frequently. If your bronchial tubes thicken, you are now blessed with acute bronchitis. Smokers often get this disease. I am sure you have heard a smoker constantly clearing their throats or hacking away for no apparent reason. It is a good possibility that they have acute bronchitis. Then there is chronic bronchitis. Chronic bronchitis means that you are almost always coughing. This condition is much more serious than either acute or regular bronchitis. People who suffer from chronic bronchitis often get asthma or some other nasty breathing related disease before all is said and done. Most times a lifestyle change (such as quitting smoking or taking up a different profession) will

cure you of bronchitis if it happens on a regular basis. If you only suffer from bronchitis when you get sick, and it heals on its own, there probably isn't much you can do about it. If you suffer from chronic bronchitis, it is wise to see your doctor. They may be able to prescribe something to help you, and a lifestyle change is probably in order.
