Here at Issuu, we’re excited to join in the celebration of Kamala Harris as the first woman vice president-elect of the United States. In addition to shattering this long-standing glass ceiling for women everywhere, Kamala, will also be the first person of color to hold the office. Since the launch of the Issuu platform, female content creators have inspired us with their authentic voices, much-needed perspectives and for sharing stories of women from around the globe. This moment for women all around the world, has been long overdue, but we agree with Kamala Harris during her recent acceptance speech: “While I may be the first, I won’t be the last”.

Founded and edited by Adrianne Ramsey, GIRLS Magazine is an online publication that is a portfolio of interviews with female social activists, contemporary artists, writers, art administrators, and curators about the current political climate and its effects on the art world.
The Beautiful Project is a collective of image makers using photography, writing and reflective workshops to create spaces for Black women and girls to confront the mass misunderstanding of their likeness in the media and the world at large.
The online art gallery Saatchi Art 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, which gave American women the right to vote. But while women have attained a more equal voice in American democracy, they still don’t have parity when it comes to the arts. In the last 10 years, women artists represented a paltry 2% of all auction sales and just 11% of all museum acquisitions. Only 14% of living artists represented by galleries in Europe and North America are women. Like voting, art is a powerful means of expressing one’s voice and vision. In recognition of this landmark centennial, and in the spirit of correcting the gender imbalance in the arts, we are celebrating 100 of our most talented women artists.
The Siren is the feminist magazine at the University of Oregon. The magazine focuses on improving the academic and professional environment for women at the university while also focusing on intersectionality. The magazine believes through self-expression, art, and love that we have the power to amplify the voices of the disenfranchised.
The editorial content above, helmed by and about women is important, but so is the research, study and reporting on female and gender equality. This report covers the United Nations Women’s story over the period 2019–2020. It shares how the United Nations and its many partners are striding forward to realize a better world for women and girls—one of equality and empowerment. Looking forward, the UN Women will draw on their full resources and experiences in protecting and advancing the rights of all women and girls.
The road to progress is long and winding, but the election of a woman to the position of the Vice President of the United States certainly is a major step forward in gender equality and women’s rights. We hope this moment inspires even more women and young girls to dream big, make their voices heard, and aspire to lead publications, industries, countries, movements, and more.
