Family Bulletin Feat ured Family • • • Dear BLEST Magazine,

It been almost five years since our family moved to Atlanta, Georgia from Queens, New York. We love it here! Our lives have improved tramendously in so many ways. The schools here are wonderful and the after school activities help keep our children off the streets. We’ve had the opportunity to visit some of Atlanta’s greatest churches, historic sites, exquisite restaurants and the aquarium, just to name a few. We couldn’t of asked for more. Having lost a great grand mother, an uncle and a mother, we have grown to know that God is still a great God, for He as given them great lives and enriched both my husband and I with great memories. Some of which would carry on for many generations to come. Our daughter Breanna and her cousin Sieeda have grown to be such lovely young lady’s. We know that God has great plans for them.

Sure many blessings have come our way throughout the years, but we will continue to pray for other families from all parts of the world. We pray that God will pore His blessings over their bodies, homes, businesses, churches and finances.

We thank God for all he has done for us and we thank him for encouraging you to produce such a wonderful publication... BLEST Magazine. May your dreams be fulfilled and may your hearts continue to be blessed. This publication will succeed, because it is truly in His making. Wishing You & Yours A Wonderful, Joyful & Prosperous New Year! Be Blessed In All You Do.

Love Always,

ROLEPLAY

IS YOUR HEART IN THE RIGHT PLACE?

R

ecently, I had the luxury of going to the dentist office for a lost filling. I must admit that is had been a while since I last seen a dentist, but not by choice. I entered the office and felt right at home. It had a comfortable feeling that would satisfy any child and the adult that the child brought with them. As I went to sit down in the dental workstation, I fell into a plush dental chair with at 42 inch plasma flat screen in front of me. It had a modern appearance with the comforts of home as I was the chocolate peaking out from behind the corner of the shelf.

The dental assistant took a couple of x-rays and within moments my dentist arrives. Dr. L. was a youthful young woman around my age. The first question that popped in my head was that I made the wrong career decision. We engaged in conversation about how she would fix my tooth and the cost. Looking at the bill, I again thought I made the wrong decision. What the insurance covered and what I had to pay out of pocket somehow switched places. Then I thought, “This is what I will write about!” Envy is the feeling of unhappiness caused by

comparing one’s situation or therefore lack to what someone else has obtained. It was not that I wanted to be a dentist, though I enjoyed the strategically planted TV screens. However, dealing with bad breath and accidental biting is not my ideal career. Truthfully, in seeing my dentist who is close in age, caused me to feel that my goals of entrepreneurship and financial freedom had somehow passed me by completely and I immediately felt left behind. Pause.... As I walked out of the dentist office, I realized that I was ticked off by the extensiveness of the bill, and as I sat down in the car I recently paid off to drive to the restaurant to meet my current job’s co-workers, everything I felt in the office disappeared. How quickly can one’s heart go to the wrong place? When comparing one’s accomplishments or lack of accomplishments to another’s, there will always be someone who is smarter, moved up the ladder quicker, has more money, is in better shape, is prettier, taller, can fit into any shoe at any store at any time, etc. etc. This list is endless. Prayer

IS IT THE ANSWER TO EVERYTHING?

G

Emphatically, Undoubtedly, Without Question, Yes!

enesis 1:26 makes it plain. God created man in His likeness and gave man dominion over every living thing in the air, land and the sea. That means we can go to God concerning everything, because everything belongs to Him. We can go to Him no matter the situation. Prayer is our method of communication – a petition/request made to The Father. “Let every petition be made known”.

When we pray we must pray in the name of Jesus Christ. “No man can come to the Father except by the Son (Jesus).“ Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek and ye shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you for everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened...Matthew 7:7-8. And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear...Isaiah 65:24. Our amazing God can hear our thoughts and our hearts before we can finish the sentence. God is all, and all is God.“ Casting all your care upon Him, for he careth for you...1 Peter 5:7. When we pray, wait for the answer, because he will answer, whether it’s a yes or whether it’s a no. He will answer! Pray without ceasing... 1 Thessolonians 5:17. Continual prayer helps to not only develop your prayer life, it strengthens your personal relationship with God. You get to experience and witness the miracles that manifest from prayer. all saints...Ephesians 6:18. Believers! Emphasis on Believers!!!!!!“ For God so loved the world that whosoever believeth...John 3:16. If you believe then you will recieve. If you believe prayer answers everything, then everything will be answered. Beloved, there is no thing, no situation, or circumstance on this earth that can not be prayed about. So let your prayer wheels turn! You will get an answer about any and everything. ■ — calling by : minister

WOMEN OF DISTINCTION A Godly Woman As an Ordained minister’s wife, it takes God to place you into this position to take your rightful place in him. Only God can place you there and keep you in his perfect will. If not married, as a Godly woman put God first and foremost in your life for direction and guidance. A married Godly woman listens to the priest of her home, which is her husband, as God directs and orders his steps in his daily leading. Being a Godly woman is no longer being conformed to this world’s leading but by the renewing of our mind with our focus on the things concerning the Kingdom of God. Know that true love never needs a microphone to be heard and when you fight for love it will fight to win for you. Just know if you are following anybody but God, you are walking into a trap. Godly single woman only follow God and Godly married woman should only follow her Godly husband and anything else pray to seek God’s directions. God said, in order to get to heaven we must go through hell. Ladies, we cannot serve without love for our fellowman and fellow woman. Keep focused on what God has called you to do in His Kingdom and never compromise or let anything get you off track of the higher prize. In closing, always stand by your man and never let people steal your time. God is time and time is God. We never know the time or hour the son of man will return. actually fulfill them? Well, at that moment, although I could envision myself achieving my personal and professional goals, the reality was that I had a husband, children, a job, bills and a mountain of other responsibilities. I knew that my multiple roles and responsibilities would make pursuing my goals more difficult. I wondered how I was going to fulfill my heartfelt desires and still balance the rest of my life. I told her that I just didn’t have time and I didn’t think it was possible to do what I really wanted to do at this point in my life.

Her question was so poignant. Why was it so easy to talk about my dreams, but so difficult to

orn January 10th, 1972 in Spanish Town Jamaica. Second son of Yvonne and Hubert Watson Sr., chef Hubert Watson has always loved the kitchen. Growing up, he would watch his mom while she did her magic, sorting spices together for Sunday dinners. He knew that one day he wanted to be the head of the kitchen too, just like his mother.

What inspired him most was a plaque on the kitchen wall that stated, “The Kitchen Is The Heart Of The House.” From reading that plaque as a young boy he said, “I want my cooking to come from the heart.” Simpling because if it comes from the heart, it has to be hearty.

PASTOR: BRENDA JEFFERSON Church Home: Deeper Life Christian Church Pastors: Brenda Jefferson &

Pastor M.B. Jefferson

Tampa, Florida www.deeperlifechristianchurch.org

H

ailing from Tampa, Florida, Brenda Jefferson, a serious woman of God, is a walking testimony of God’s healing power.

On her death bed—doctor’s giving her weeks to live due to blood clots throughout her body—she heard God’s voice say “get up I’m not done with you” and before she knew it her blood clots cleared up leaving doctors puzzled.

Going through many trials, her mother dying when she was very young, having an abusive stepfather, and losing her father to cancer, Brenda never gave up instead this only made her stronger. (continues on pg.18)

Q1.& A

What goals do you personally feel are important to reach out to others? A simple answer to that question would be this: Christ came into this world to save sinners. I feel the most important goal of Christians should be to follow that great commission which was given to us and to bring as many people to Christ as possible.

2.

What power do you hold when you preach the word of God? I feel that we live in a time where the church as a whole needs to have effective leaders who will promote the message of Jesus Christ and spread His gospel to the world. I feel that women who are unashamed and unafraid to step behind the pulpit have been wonderful examples that show we too can be effective instruments in today’s church.

3.

Why do you do what you do? The word of God states in Romans 8:29 (that whom who did foreknow he also did predestinate) and in Jeremiah 1:5-10 states that before he formed thee in thy mothers womb he ordained thee a prophet to the nations and that the word of God that I stand on knowing that God has called me such as a time as this...I was on a seven day fast when God spoke to me and said, “go forth and preach my word” and that’s what I have been

We must enjoy everything that God has done for us.

standing on ever since. And the reason I do what I do is stated n the bible verse 2 Cor. 5:14-15...and all that says is we have to live unto him.

4.

Why are you so blessed? I have been redeemed and I have an inheritance of every thing I need houses, money land, cars, health, a sound mind, joy, peace, love, happinees, and most of all a good husband. The bible states in Song of Solomon the 6th chapter that we should acknowledge every good thin in Jesus, strength and faith and don’t take life for granted. We are on earth to please God and not ourselves. And I truly believe in all of my heart that life is a blessing and we must treasure it with all of our heart...the bible states in Psalms 90:10 that in life we are only promised 3 score and 10 which breaks down to 70 years. And every day we live we must enjoy every thing that God has done for us.

5.

Explain why other men and women should always acknowledge their blessings and never take life for granted. I think one of the major issues we face today is balancing home life and ministry. To be effective in both areas, there must first be a distinction between the two. Secondly, because Christ styled the church after the familial unit, there must be a positive balance at home which will flow into the church and vice versa. That is one of the keys to balancing the home life and ministry. ■ — calling by : pastor

PASTOR: BRENDA JEFFERSON Debut Album: IN STORES NOW!

(continued from pg.17) Pastor Jefferson also brings forth her spiritual gift of ministry as songwriter/producer, whose debut project was inspired by her personal testimonies, and encouraged by her son and daughter, she modestly describes A Time of Refreshing as a “joyful” project. When in fact this debut work of art, is an uplifting compilation filled with personal testimonies featuring some of gospel music’s most notable talent. “I was praying and asking God for something personal that He would give me,” she said. “One day I was sitting on a plane and I heard a song in my mind. I thought it was so beautiful I wrote it down and recorded it. This was my hobby until God said to do a complete CD, go national with it and He would bless it.” Each song on the project is about Jefferson’s personal events in her life, and on separate occasions God spoke bringing about “Oh Clap Your Hand,” and the title track “A Time of Refreshing.” In fact, “Dry Bones” was ironically born when God spoke to her on her deathbed. Literally hand picking the voice for each song, Jefferson’s

“A Time Of Refreshing” creation delivers inspiring messages coupled with some of the industry’s best in production and sound. A variety of songs showcasing the true sound of traditional gospel. Excited to have personal songs on the project Jefferson sometimes finds herself in a surreal state. “To have people delivered and know that God is great and holy, and no matter what you go through whether sickness or pain He can heal you is awesome!” With plans to release an all-male sophomore compilation, her wish for this project is simple. “I really want my music to be received in a way that ministers to people. Whether they get an answer from God, healing, or any other expectation they may have.” A Time of Refreshing proclaims the Gospel of Christ reaching a diverse audience and claims a whole new generation of music listeners.

Psalmist, Minister, Writer, Mentor, A woman with a

true heart for God and His people.

Edwina Andrews is a woman with a true heart for God and His People. Yes she grew up in church but she is quick to say that is not her testimony. “Where I am now was not my plan. It was the plan of God. I am so glad I allowed Him to take control!!!” Every test and trial she’s endured is evidenced in the anointed, strong yet gentle woman of God she is. Her current ministry involves praise and worship, preaching and teaching and Intercession. She is also involved in Benevolence, Youth Ministry, Outreach and Counseling. “The Father is fine tuning me and moving me forward with love.” Edwina believes that without love there is no ministry and she is forever learning and growing in Him.

18 ★ blestmagazine.com

“People need to know that you care.” With that attitude of compassion and strength she is helping others accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal savior. Edwina also believes it is important to acknowledge those who have helped along the way, especially her Pastor, mentor and friend: Pastor Beverly D. Hunt-Patterson (No more Gaps Ministries) Family support has also strengthened her on this Journey. She has three sons Barry, Orion and Chris, a sister Carol and nephew Nicholas. “Having them meant I had to make it.” A Prophet once prophesied over her that she had the Spirit of an ox. He said you can make it. You are the strength of this ministry. (He was talking about our church) Hold on! At the time she didn’t appreciate it she didn’t understand why God would give her this assignment. She researched the ox and found that an ox only answers to the voice of his master. He knows when to go and when to stand still. He can carry extreme weight, because the yoke has been positioned properly. The only thing that is difficult for an ox is going downhill because he will lose his balance. So with the spirit of the ox, Edwina says she embraces the mantle that the Lord has lovingly placed on her life. “For every part of my life I give God the Glory. Without God, without Jesus as my Lord and Savior, there would be no me.” Lamentations 3:22-23. It is of the Lords mercies that we are not consumed; (continues on pg.19)

“GOD’s Child”

Regina was born to Bishop Levern and the late Mother Cararra Maxwell in a little town known as Mullins, SC. She was the fifth child out of six children, three boys and three girls.

“I was blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Arnisha in 1992.“ After the birth of my daughter, I began to hear the voice of the Lord and have visions. Like many others, I ignored God’s directions and continued living my life. In 1994, I started singing with a group called the “Anointed Voices Gospel Singer.” In the winter of 1994, I met my husband, Waymon. During that time the group began to sing all over the east coast and I redictated my life to Jesus Christ. As the group ministered in song, God began to deal more strongly with me and my purpose for this life. Finally I accepted the walk of faith into the ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and began my ministerial training in the summer of 1995. After having my second beautiful baby girl, Ramona in the winter of 2000, I decided to enroll in school for Theology. I was then licensed in 2002 as an Evangelist and my Pastor give me the duty of being the head of

the Youth Missionary Department. In this capacity I was able, under the anointed wisdom of God, to conduct and minister at power services and Women’s Conferences. The Gainey family now resides in Atlanta, GA by the way of Snellville, GA. I am now the associate pastor at Strait Bible Truth Church of God in Conyers, GA where the pastor is Elder Tony (Samantha) Prewitt.

I feel grateful each day that Jesus found me worthy to teach, preach, prophecy, sing, and minister Godʼs holy word to His children and the nation.

As we approach Christmas, let’s revisit the biblical truth that we are each created to perform a special role within a larger body of believers. Your spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality, and experiences (S.H.A.P.E.) help you see the role you’re meant to fulfill within the body of Christ. I see this in my two girls: one is an introvert who excels at math, science, and serving others without being asked; the other is an extrovert, quick with a song, and an invitation to join his joyful dance. We all agree that the Christmas season is the best time to carry others to Jesus. But you don’t have to do it alone. Work together with other Christians to have dinners, gatherings, and parties with the objective of telling your neighbors and friends about Jesus. WATCHING GOD’S DESIGN – As you work within a group at church, look for the different S.H.A.P.E.’s and how people fit into God’s design. In your group Bible study, take a few minutes to talk about each other’s S.H.A.P.E. What gives you energy? What excites you? What do you like to do? What are you good at? How can you use your gifts to serve Christ this Christmas? ■ — calling by : minister

ENVY

FOCAL POINTS

(continued from pg. 11) It is at this time of comparison that some vital questions must be asked. For example: • What is God’s purpose in my life? • In fulfilling this purpose, is there any room, rhyme, or reason for comparison? • Is the path God has taken me been wrong or am I just maturing in my faith? Answering a few questions can help you determine the reasoning behind the envious feelings. I realized that my dentist is not a better person because she established herself quicker. I chose to follow God’s outline for my life because He purposed each one of his chosen children to walk in a way that brings true light to the world. As a child of God, sibling to the Christ, and constant communicator with the Holy Spirit it is our duty to feel more while going through trials and tribulations. However, we cannot allow envy and his cousins (confusion, comparison, and doubt) take reign in our lives to allow the loss of faith in our hearts. Is your heart with Jesus Christ or are you pursuing the world heart’s desire? Pursuing Christ’s plan for your life allows your trials to be shorter as you become stronger in relationship with God. However, if the world is whom you seek to please, you will have trial on top of trial to deal with.

ULTIMATE resorts.com MAKING YOUR DREAMS A REALITY (continued from pg.14) Because of all the priorities in our lives we struggle to keep our dreams alive as we wait for that moment when both timing and situations are in perfect alignment. Daily pressures push our aspirations into a cell in the alcove of our soul and every so often the dream tugs on the strings of our heart and we’re too tired, too confused, or too overwhelmed to respond. Dreams need to be nurtured and watered, but our many obligationslimit our time and drain our energy to tend to the field of dreams. Pressure, stress, anxiety, and tension can cause a woman’s mind to go blank. It can prohibit us from seeing the pathway tofulfillment. In trying to figure out how to be good mothers, spouses, employees and friends, our minds are often so cluttered with demands that it’s hard to make sound decisions, set life goals, or follow a planfor our future. When I left the restaurant that night, I was swept right back into my regular routines and responsibilities. There seemed to be no way for me to “have it all”amid the tasks of daily living. For the

next three years, I lived everyday with a feeling of suspended expectations, and like millions of other women; I continued with business as usual. Almost every woman that I know personally or coach professionally is searching for a way to bridge the gap between where she is and where she wants to be. If you wrestle with discontentment over your present circumstances and yearn for more out of your life, then you probably have a dream or a goal that has been deferred. What most women need today is information and tools to empower them to take the next step and move beyond survival to become successful. ■ — calling by:

BLESSED MAILBOX

Why Are You Blessed? HIGHLY FAVORED CANCER SURVIVOR I’m not a celebrity. I don’t have wealth or fame, but I am highly blessed and favored by God. I truly believe that there is nothing that I can’t ask God for and He won’t deliver it to me. I AM A SEVEN YEAR BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR...

7 MEANS COMPLETION.

I truly believe that God has healed my body; because He says in His word that by His stripes I am healed. While most people began the new millenium worrrying if computers would crash or if the water supply would dry up, I was worrying whether or not I had cancer. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in February of 2000 at the age of 33. This was a very lonely time for me; even though I had lots of people who loved me. I began to isolate myself so people would not see just how vulnerable I was. Everyone always considered me to be this well put together woman who always had it together, so I figured I would oblige everyone by showing them that I was okay, but I was scared to death. After my surgery (lumpectomy), this whole “cancer” thing just seemed surreal. Shortly afterwards, reality began to set in when I began to lose my hair. I realized then that I had a terminal illness and could possibly die. WOW!!! I went through so many emotions. I was angry; how could God let this happen? I was confused; what had I done to deserve this? I was afraid; who would love my children? I was worried; how long did I have to live? My confidence had been shattered; would my husband still find me attractive after losing my hair? What could I have done differently to avoid this? My body and my mind were under attack. But I know that what the devil meant for bad, God meant it for good. After six months of chemotherapy, came 8 weeks of radiation. The radiation caused

the skin on my breast to burn and literally fall off. During this time, I sought after God. I had tried to do everything in my own stubborn power, but realized it was not working. God truly “kept” me thoughout this time in my life. It was only by the grace of God that I made it through this ordeal. I managed to coach my daughter’s 5th grade cheerleading squad and attend all of my son’s 6th grade practices and football games. I continued to work full time and attend church regularly, but I had no idea of what God could really do. I prayed that God would keep me here long enough to see my children graduate. God heard my prayers. I’m now praying that God will keep me here until my kids are married and have kids of their own. When I finally came out with my hands up and surrendered my life to God, many things became clear to me. As the song goes “I once was lost, but now I’m found, was blind but now I see.” The entire time I thought I was alone, God never left me. From day one, God sent compassionate doctors and nurses. What I came to realize was that the whole time I was trying to lean on my own understanding, I should have been leaning on God. God truly “kept” me. I thank God that I was able to remain active, and I was never sick throughout this ordeal. My children felt safe and secure. No income was lost and I learned to appreciate the little things in life; like the sunshine, children’s laughter, my husband’s smile, a blossoming flower. I thank God for the cancer because had I not gone through this; I would not be the person I am today. My mind has been renewed and my health has been restored. God has not only healed my body, but also my mind. I am a more compassionate and sympathetic person. God has taken my fragile and woulded heart and filled it with unconditional love. God continues to be merciful and gracious towards me, not because I’ve been so good, but because that’s the type of God

Send your Testimony, Short Story or Poem along with your photo by Mail, E-Mail to testify@blestmagazine.com or leave your testimony message on our voicemail at (678) 608-1073. Please Tell A Friend Today! He is. When I cried out to Him, He looked beyond my faults and saw my needs. His word is so true and this experience taught me that I can cast all my cares on Him and He wil see me through. God is a living God. I know him personally as a Healer, Deliverer, Redeemer, Provider, Comforter, Mind Regulator, Strong Tower, Savior and most of all my friend. After God showed me that He would do exceedingly and abundantly above all that I could ask, I began to truly trust Him with every aspect of my life. All the glory goes to God!! God has dried my tears and cast my sorrows into the sea. I am a living witness that you can have a little piece of heaven right here on earth. God will draw near to you when you draw near to Him. Seek Him first and his righteousness and everything else will be added. He will supply all your needs if you ask Him. He will stick closer than a brother. He will listen when no one else will and He will understand when no one seems to understand. Cast ALL your cares on Him and He will see you through. Be still and know that He is God. He will give you peace that surpasses all understanding and will fill your heart with joy. ■ — calling by:

INTEGRITY

Athletes Businesses Marriages Youths Adults MINISTRY & COUNSELING

Integrity is the ball that scores the winning Goal, Honesty is the true trademark of the human Soul. We live our lives doing many different Things, But when you deceive others the bell of hell Rings. It’s never too late to make things right Inside, Integrity is saying be brave you don’t need to Hide. Never tell a lie to win Status or Fame, Always remember that money is never greater than your Name. True leaders would rather die than do people Wrong, Integrity is only practiced by those who are Strong. God is watching everyday at the choices we Make, Sending Blessings to the Real and Curses to the Fake. As a nation we must put an end to wrongful Thinking, Babies are being murdered we must stop that ship from Sinking. Integrity tells the world that you don’t follow the Crowd, When you tell the truth almighty God is very Proud.
