Public Voice Dear Ed, With regard to your article "Public voice to be heard in Council". This has been advertised in the past years, public have attended, spoken on issues, submissions have been made, with council taking no notice whatever. When the same was advertised some years back, a friend and I
attended in a committee room. The Mayor spoke for five minutes, then put up a sign, "In Committee" and stated "You have to leave. Go to the main chamber" We did so and after 5 minutes were told to leave because we were not directly involved. So the exercise was a waste of time. Have Council changed?? K O Lawrence
ANZ responsible bank Dear Ed, The media hooha over ANZ bank is highly inappropriate. I have been with ANZ for many years and always found the staff to be courteous and helpful. When I have had any issue with bank policy, the higher management bend over backwards to assist me and resolve issues. The constant knocking of the big banks in New Zealand is tiresome. How would it have been if ANZ had been like banks in the United States, which allowed customers to act irresponsibly over mortgages
and then got into big trouble during the financial crisis of 2008? ANZ and the other big banks in New Zealand have acted responsibly, and therefore during the 2008 crisis New Zealand’s banks did not go under. These banks should be commended for managing the money of New Zealanders in a responsible way, and preventing personal financial loss by customers. Banks are open and honest about fees and make sure people know what they are signing up for. Dan McGuire
