ENERGY MODELLING Using information gathered from a completed energy model questionnaire, fuel bills and measured or estimated existing system efficiency - our energy model can be produced. The model gives an accurate boiler size and domestic hot water requirement, plus anticipated fuel and carbon savings. The energy model is the only accurate way of assessing the boiler requirement of a building as the original design was based on design assumptions which have been generally found to be excessively oversized.

Many buildings have had air conditioning installed which is contributing to the heating element, so in some cases, the original heat emitters are redundant. In addition, most existing buildings have improved their insulation in the form of cavity wall or loft insulation. There are also many pieces of equipment used in these modern times that contribute to the heating i.e. lights, computers etc By taking all of the above points into consideration, and combining them with the fact that boilers were traditionally oversized as a matter of breakdown and design tolerance, we find plant rooms are generally oversized.

However, perhaps the most significant factor we consider is the poor energy efficiency of the existing boiler system. By comparing the energy efficiencies of existing and proposed systems, a more accurate assessment can be made of the true energy requirement of the building. Blades Low Carbon Systems use the actual fuel used together with the assessed system efficiency to calculate the precise heat load, we then add a corrective percentage to allow for severe winters or a client agreed fault tolerance. This has proved to be a very accurate method of boiler sizing - maximising the efficiency of the system. Blades Energy Modelling is also able to size the domestic hot water requirement based on the number, type and frequency of use of hot water outlets, together with the domestic water system type i.e. pressurised or gravity.

HEATING SERVERS The Heating Server incorporates a unique Energy Recovery System which allows it to achieve a market leading system operating efficiency in the region of 97%. This means that for every 10p of gas purchased you get 9.7p of energy into your building. Key Heating Server Features •A  unique range of modular heating boilers designed to maximize gas and carbon savings. •E  ach Blade Server incorporates a fully modulating condensing gas fired boiler - mounted in a rigid black powder coated mild steel mobile free standing frame •S  upplied with all necessary interconnecting pipework and controls terminating at interface points for extension into the building services • T he frame also contains the appropriate number of Passive Flue Gas Heat Recovery Devices (PFGHRD) which are connected to the boiler via a purpose-made insulated stainless steel manifold

• The recovered energy from the PFGHRD can be used within the building to supplement the heat input requirement raising the system efficiency to an amazing 97% • Each boiler has a built-in control system allowing boilers to operate as part of a modular system or individually depending on application and is supplied with fully functional BMS interface • The full range of Individual boiler capacities includes 50kW, 70kW, 90kW and 115kW models which can be combined together to make an infinite rating combination to closely match building requirements

COMBINATION SERVERS Our Combination Server range brings together heating and hot water outputs to make them ultra efficient - saving your organisation space and money. KEY FEATURES

•O  ptions are available in 28kW, 35kW, 50kW, 70kW, 90kW and 115kW sizes – cylinders can incorporate Solar Coils, if required.

• Each server is fitted with the appropriate number of Passive Flue Gas Heat Recovery Devices (PFGHRD) which recover the normally wasted latent heat within the flue exhaust gases. These are connected to the boiler via a purpose made insulated stainless steel manifold, with a separate condense drain.

•E  ach Blade server incorporates a fully modulating SEDBUK A condensing gas fired boiler, 210 litre direct mains pressure Stainless Steel cylinder with high recovery plate heat exchanger together with all necessary interconnecting pipework and controls terminating at convenient interface points for extension into the building services.

• The recovered energy from the PFGHRD is used to preheat the cold feed to the DHW cylinder which increases the overall system efficiency of this unit to an amazing 97%. • Each boiler has a built in control system allowing boilers to operate as part of a multi modular system or individually depending on application.

•A  ll equipment is mounted within the joined pair of rigid black powder coated mild steel mobile frames suitable for freestanding within the plant room.

• Fully fitted with time control enable and remote fault indication connections.

BARRIER SERVERS

If debris from an existing heating system is allowed to contaminate the boiler heat exchanger, it could have a detrimental effect on the boiler’s operation and eventually result in a failure. The Blade System Barrier is a physical barrier in the form of a plate heat exchanger and pump designed to match the Blade primary side of the system with the existing secondary side of the system. This will prevent any blocking of boiler waterways with debris and sludge from the old system. Fitting a system barrier will ensure no potential guarantee issues are raised because of contamination from the existing system. A system barrier will also allow the existing filling and expansion system to be retained and allow the Blade side to be pressurised. This enables the existing system to remain either gravity fed or pressurised.

All modern condensing boilers, including those used within the Blade servers, have very low water content and the waterways within the boiler heat exchanger are relatively narrow compared with traditional cast iron boilers.

FLUES The Blade Flue Systems are plastic manifolds, pipes, fittings and fixings. The manifolds allow multiple GasSavers on the Heating Servers to be combined into one flue for exit to the atmosphere. Flues can be situated either vertically or horizontally with a maximum equivalent flue length of 30 metres.

PRE-FABRICATION Blades offer a full prefabricated plant room design and build service.

PRESSURISATION The Blade Mini Pressurisation Package is an option available for the compliance of Water Regulations which state that any system of more than 45kw should have an auto filling device. They can be fitted directly to Blade Servers and attached to the universal connections on servers.

STANDARD LOW LOSS HEADERS We manufacture a range of modular fully welded mild steel headers. They can be manufactured to allow any number of Blade Servers to be connected to any number of secondary circuits.

BARRIER SERVERS A positive barrier put in place when connecting Blade Servers to an existing heating system prevents damage to the new boiler. It also allows the Blade servers to be used on open vented systems. Our Barrier Servers are custom built to match the needs of the site and like our heating servers, they come protected by a robust mild steel frame, finished in black powder coated paint, on wheels and prepared for readily interfacing between old system and new.

Using the recovered flue gas energy to its maximum potential is fundamental to achieving the high efficiencies that Blade Heating Servers are capable of. Many interesting and innovative uses are possible and are only limited by the expenditure required to implement. Here are two simple examples of how we’ve helped our clients utilise recovered heat for maximum efficiency:

LOW TEMPERATURE HEATING To use the recovered energy for space heating via separate low temperature radiator/fan convector circuits, so removing the need to use primary heating to heat these spaces. This area could be up to 10% of the heated area of the building. It is a method that we’ve successfully deployed in offices and schools etc where there is not a high demand for DHW but where the recovered heat can be used to heat a proportion of the building.

ACCESSORIES LOW LOSS HEADERS Standard Low Loss Headers are available to accommodate either 1-2 server or 3-4 server systems. All have a black powder coated finish, and can be frame mounted, or stand independently on a base plate. However, any configuration of header design is available, prices on application. The larger systems come in a horseshoe configuration.

ADAPTERS & SOLAR COILS Blades supply Room Sealed Adaptors and DHW Combi Adapters. Combi servers can be purchased with a solar coil fitted as an extra, for those clients wishing to take advantage of free solar energy when available via existing or anticipated solar panels

ADDITIONAL SERVICES MEASURING AND EVALUATING EXISTING SYSTEM EFFICIENCY A fundamental requirement of accurate energy modelling is to calculate the existing system efficiency. This may be obtained by monitoring equipment which can be an expensive exercise and is offered as an optional extra, alternatively our experienced engineers can assess this from a site survey.

PLANTROOM DETAILED SURVEY AND PROJECT SPECIFICATION A full plant room survey is carried out to evaluate the exact materials and labour necessary to carry out the project. The survey includes photographs and measurements of the existing system; it also allows notes to be taken about access, existing plant room condition and other possible work required.

PLANTROOM DESIGN The design will ensure that you have enough capacity to meet all your heating and hot water requirements. Blades can provide a comprehensive plant room design service, from the initial survey through to the production of schematic principle of design, 3D CAD drawings, energy models (see above), outline specifications and equipment quotations.

PREFABRICATION In addition, we offer a full prefabricated plant room design and build service

INSTALLATION & COMMISSIONING The equipment is installed by experienced and approved contractor partners who will also commission the system.

STRUCTURED FINANCE OPTIONS Blades LCS are able to offer Leasing/Purchase options through Lombard Finance. The interest rate is very competitive, and the scheme is perfect for those clients preferring a ‘pay as you save’ strategy.

Structured Finance Our finance package now means that you can use income and not capital to finance your energy efficient equipment.. Our energy efficient Heating and DHW systems enable you to reduce your energy bills, carbon output and maintenance costs by upgrading to a new Blade system. However, one of the biggest reasons for not changing that we come across is the old adage ”if it’s not broke why fix it?” (Especially, if scarce capital is required to do so). There is a realisation that the need to change will come but at the same time there is a reluctance to do so whilst the incumbent system continues to work. With our new finance options we can structure payments to match or be less than the anticipated energy savings. This gives you a cash flow neutral/positive solution for the initial term of the loan. After that, ALL savings will contribute to the gross/net profit of the company. This may also mean that the project can be considered a revenue one rather than a capital expenditure one.
