The Simpcw name, which translates to “People of the Rivers,” comes from the original nameoftheriver–Simpcwétkwe.

ingtechniques,includingacaptivating demonstrationofspearfishingandtraditionalLahalgame(stick/bonegame).
Delve into the historical significance of salmon as they journey from the ocean to their hatching grounds, ascendingtheFraserRiver,enteringthe Thompson River at Lytton, traversing KamloopsLake,andultimatelyreaching the North Thompson. Salmon, a crucialfoodsourceforinteriortribes,was smoked for winter, providing essential
fatsandvitamins.Beyondsustenance, salmonheldafoundationalroleintrade, significantly contributing to the economicandsocialfabricofFirstNations societies. The rocks utilized for pit cooking,porousvolcanicstones,were not just tools but also valuable trade items.Joininthefestivitiesandhonor theenduringconnectionbetweenthe Simpcw people and the salmon that sustainthem.

In the Spring, bears come out of hibernation,givinggreatopportunities forbearviewing.Theriversreachtheir crescendo with spring run-off and slow in early summer for excellent whitewater kayaking and rafting on the legendary Clearwater River. This is the best time to view the aweinspiringHelmckenFallsandtheother 41 named waterfalls at their full and breathtaking force. Three waterfalls withthebestaccessibilityformobilitylimited visitors include Dawson, Spahats, and Helmcken, with shorter, pavedpathsandviewingdecks. Check out Moul, Silvertip, or Triple Decker to start if you’re up for more steps and variedterrain.
Spring,summerandfallareoptimal to explore the 250 kms (155 mi) of hiking trails. The geology is incredible here-you’llwalkalong200,000-yearold lava beds past ancient volcanoes withsoundsoftheriverbeloworatyour side.Tryhut-to-huthikinginCanada’s
