Students clean up at Provincial Skills Canada Competition By Kassidie Cornell Mount Boucherie Secondary School is a unique place with many diverse clubs, accomplished sports teams, and has an amazing staff. At MBSS, we have many achievements to be proud of, especially our recent Provincial Skills Canada results. The 20th annual Provincial Skills Canada competition was hosted at Tradex, Abbottsford on April 9th. Six students represented Mount Boucherie this year and all returned home successful. Bo Rouck and Isaac Massey worked towards a silver medal in Video and TV, while Matt Carrier and Cody Newman took home a bronze medal for 2D animation. Brittany Dyck and Wendy Schindler also represented Mount Boucherie at Skills Canada, Brittany earning a bronze medal in Graphic Design and Wendy Schindler got a bronze medal for Fashion Design. Results such as these show that not everyone has the ability to ace a provincial exam, but that doesn’t mean they don’t strive in other areas. Last week, the Fraser Institute report revealed that MBSS was ranked 224th out of 293 secondary schools across British Columbia based on our provincial exam results. How can the Fraser Institute rank schools based solely on exam results from 5 courses, when schools have more to offer.Though Mount Boucherie’s exam results were lower than expected, it certainly does not define Mount Boucherie Secondary, a place of art, music, and talent, and great academics, as a school.
