Trout limit decreased for Mill Lake anglers Daily catch lowered to two

Anglers at Mill Lake are now facing a new fish possession limit. As of April 1, the daily quota for rainbow trout taken from the lake is reduced from four to two. The lake, which is an urban fishery, is managed by Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and stocked by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC. The lake is stocked with trout frequently, especially in the fall and spring months. It is not stocked in July or August when higher surface water temperatures reduce the chance of survival. A notice posted at the lake informs anglers of the quota change. Brennan Clarke, public affairs officer for the ministry, stated in a written release that “the ministry stocks Mill Lake with trout each year which gives fisheries biologists an accurate idea of how many fish are in the lake and maintains a consistent number of trout from year to year. “Due to increasing angler effort, the ministry has reduced the allowable catch from four trout per day to two trout per day so that the same number of fish will serve a greater number of anglers.”

Abbotsford is one of 12 B.C. chapters of KidSport that will receive money from Thrifty Foods fundraiser “Orange You Glad You Helped a Kid.” From Feb. 13 to March 5, one dollar from each fourpound bag of Buck Brand Citrus organic navel oranges sold at Thrifty Foods stores went to KidSport BC, raising a total of $80,874. KidSport exists to provide grants to children facing financial barriers to assist with the costs of organized sport registration fees.
