Water meeting May 24 at Leisure Centre The Abbotsford/Mission Water and Sewer Commission (AMWSC) is hosting a public meeting at the Leisure Centre May 24 from 6-8 p.m. to discuss the municipalities’ joint water system needs. AMWSC members and staff will be available to speak about water source options and conservation programs. This is the fifth of six meetings that have taken place over the past few weeks, and the final one held in Mission. Attendees will be handed a pad of sticky notes when they come to the meeting, which can then be posted on boards around the room, explained Tracy Kyle, Abbotsford’s director of water. The notes are kept from each meeting, allowing people to see the comments and suggestions already made. Kyle said the AMWSC

is hoping to gather information, and collect and share ideas that may determine the future of the water system. Kyle said another public meeting will take place sometime in June to present all of the ideas and comments received during the previous information sessions. The water commission will then be presented with a report based on those meetings in July. The AMWSC maintains the bulk of the water supply system which includes two surface sources — Cannel Lake and Norrish Creek — and the treatment systems at each source, and the trunk water mains from these sources to the District of Mission water system. Information is available at www.ourwatermatters. ca or e-mail waterconsultation@abbotsford.ca.
