"Eclipse?" he asked. He dove a hand into the vat of keys and swished around. "Yep." Why had he come over? Back at school we would have passed in the hall without a glance. I couldn't stand the silence he seemed super-chill with, so I blurted out, "Come here often?" before I could process how lame it would sound. Joss nodded—which had to be a bunch of crap, because we were hours from school in an antique store for Pete's sake. "I was joking," I said. "I caught that. But, I do know this place." "Riiight." I checked my phone. Three minutes left. "You don't believe me?" I squinted my eyes at him. Did he seriously think I was that gullible? "I'll prove it." With nothing more than a side-nod, he strolled ahead with full confidence that I'd follow—which, admittedly, I did. I kinda wanted to call him out on his bullshit.
