How it All Started Marcia Malton has made many contributions to the organization beginning many years ago. Ms. Malton feels very strongly about this program. She explained, “I have always felt strongly about home ownership and the goal of “Habitat” is to help families obtain home ownership, and that was very appealing.” Ms. Malton even makes a donation to them every Christmas. As the Habitat for Humanity website states, “People in your community and all over the world partner with Habitat to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.”
How it Has Affected Others
How You Can Help
Habitat for Humanity has a positive effect on others. Ms. Malton explained that her nieces and nephew have worked on a few houses themselves. She stated, “One niece, worked on the first Habitat “Green House” built in Stoughton, Massachusetts in 2008. My nephew worked on some homes in Louisiana after the hurricane “Katrina” in 2007 and 2008, and in Appalachia in 2009. Another niece worked on houses in Pennsylvania in 2011 and 2012 in Buffalo, New York.” Working on these houses helps volunteers learn useful skills such as installing siding and windows, and even plastering and painting. According to Habitat for Humanity, “Since our founding in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has helped more than 6.8 million people obtain a safer place to sleep at night, along with the strength, stability and independence to build better lives.”
There are many ways you can help contribute to this amazing organization. You can donate money just like Ms. Malton. You can volunteer to help build houses, and you could just go to the website to learn more information! It’s not that hard. Ms. Malton even shared a local telephone number for Habitat for Humanity if you need more specific information from them (781-337-7744).
