A ////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Bright A look at the updates coming to Bixby

As of August 2019, the Downtown Streetscape Project is fully underway in Bixby. This project is the first project funded from the Bixby Vision sales tax extension to fund Downtown River Corrider Revitilization. The initial Vision 2025 funding was used for streets, drainage, sidewalks, street lights and landscaping. The first Downtown Streetscape construction was completed in September 2006. “I am so excited to see the finished product of the Streetscapes Project in Downtown Bixby. The progress so far is beautiful and gives a glimpse of what’s to come. I am especially looking forward to additional businesses moving in and there being more activity in downtown,” said Robin Decatur, owner of Robin Decatur AgencyFarmers Insurance and Financial Services, located in Downtown Bixby. The Streetscape project continues in the revitalization efforts with wayfinding, branding, street improvements, a brand new archway towering over the intersection of Dawes and Armstrong, and other placemaking strategies to make downtown more inviting, thus increasing economic development for Downtown Bixby. In addition, The City of Bixby Dawes Office Building and the Bixby Municipal Building are undergoing facelifts to match the blooming Downtown district. Bixby residents have already seen some of the Vision 2025 funds put to work, with the redevelopment of Charley Young Park completed in 2017, and Haikey Creek Flood Prevention, completed in 2019. A few miles north, Bixby residents are seeing a change to the Pedestrian Bridge. Phase 1 of the project began in January 2020, which included power washing and painting the bridge, along with replacing the fencing. Phase 2 will add suracing, ligths, and shade structures. “Bixby has long been one of the fastest growing cities in Oklahoma and the revitalization plans for downtown Bixby will play an important role in attracting new business opportunities. Downtown projects – coupled with the river development by Washington Irving will offer the community endless opportunities to stay in Bixby to shop, eat, and work!” said Justin Langston, Chair of the Bixby Development Foundation.
