Lead-Acid batteries have been the most prominent battery technology over the last few decades, powering all the variants of gasoline vehicles, since it was introduced in the 19th century. The basic composition of the battery consists of lead plates submerged in an electrolyte containing an acid and water. The design has changed drastically with the evolution of the automobile, with the technology accounting for approximately XX% of the total global battery production in 2016. With the rise in the demand for EVs and the subsequent increase in share for Lithium-ion batteries, the percentage is expected to drop in the next few years.
