WELCOME TO CONTINUING EDUCATION! As much love as I have for summer, there’s something about cooler fall weather and pulling sweatshirts out of storage that just can’t be beat. It is a great time to find something new to keep busy with in anticipation of the long cold days ahead. Fall Enrichment is just one step in helping usher autumn in, and it prepares us to look at September and October on the calendar instead of May or June. Enrichment is a program that we take pride in putting together - trying to find the “right” classes to inspire each of you to step into cooler weather instead of where we would all like to be, at home! This fall catalog is no exception. We have a stellar lineup of courses coming, and we are inviting you to join us to try perfecting your pies before the holidays, pick up knitting or crochet to help fill the cold winter evenings, or get your heart rate up by taking a dance or exercise class. In addition to the fun classes we have put together for Enrichment, make sure to check out our lineup of classes geared toward your professional life. Just as BSC helps traditional students go beyond, here in Continuing Education, we strive to help you and your employees move beyond in their professional lives and your organization move beyond to become a better business. We promise you won’t be bored and that our instructors will do their very best to make this fall your best fall yet! Alison Zarr Program Manager

Fundamentals of Strategic Planning

The 5 Choices to Extraordinary Productivity

Strategic planning is a term that seems to be tossed around more and more as businesses become more aware of budget issues and retirement gaps that are developing. Prepare yourself, and your company, by learning the basic steps needed to plan successfully. In this class, we will cover why it’s important to identify your core values and develop a shared vision with your employees. We will discuss why it is important to keep tradition in mind, but move forward with short-term thinking. You will see how to prepare an agenda for your meeting, learn how to define a path to move forward and develop a plan to review steps as you move forward with your plan. This class will present important steps to ensure that you (and your company) are prepared for whatever comes next!

The barrage of information coming at us from multiple sources (texts, tweets, email and more) is overwhelming and distracting. The sheer volume of information threatens our individual and collective ability to think clearly and make wise decisions about what is important. FranklinCovey’s The 5 Choices to Extraordinary Productivity. Why? Because it dramatically increases our ability to achieve our most important outcomes, both personally and professionally. Supported by science and years of experience, The 5 Choices will facilitate a measurable increase in productivity, while providing a renewed sense of engagement and accomplishment.

These courses serve as the foundation to help new and experienced leaders operate in the everchanging environment and face the challenges in today’s workplace. For certification, participants will have two years to complete the courses. There are six courses total in the certificate series.

Communicating for Leadership Success

This course introduces interaction skills critical to leadership success. Leaders learn how to meet the personal and practical needs of their team members and how to communicate to spark action in others to achieve business results. They also gain skills to provide positive as well as developmental feedback that recognizes and motivates individuals. This class is a pre-requisite to the Exceptional Leaders series, and is recommended to be taken first. 10/5 BSC NECE, Room 103 Fee: $169

Resolving Workplace Conflict People are working longer and harder at jobs that are more complex and have a wider range of responsibilities. At the same time, the way people work and communicate is changing, creating added stress. An unfortunate byproduct is conflict. This course teaches leaders how to recognize the signs of escalating conflict and take appropriate action to minimize damage. 1/11/2018 BSC NECE, Room 101 Fee: $169

Thu 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM Instructor: Paula Graner Course ID: 5600027

Setting Goals and Reviewing Results

People are more engaged and strive for better results when they feel ownership of their work in both the process and the outcomes. Unfortunately, leaders fail to engage and reinforce this sense of ownership in performance management discussions. This course will show the positive effect of shifting the traditional role of planner and evaluator from the leader to a shared responsibility between leader and employee. This shift builds ownership with the employee and frees up time for leaders to focus on coaching and developing throughout the performance cycle. 10/26 BSC NECE, Room 431 Fee: $169
