Introduction Our intentions behind your landscape design project were to create a vibrant outdoor space that offered four-season interest, beauty, intimacy and functionality. For this particular landscape, we strived to capture the essence of the location by incorporating existing elements such as architecture, foundation plant material and hardscape features. By understanding and calculating existing elements, we were able to weave together a dazzling landscape that showcased your residence’s most noteworthy features. Our goal as designers was to create a landscape that was overflowing with an array of plant material, that encircled both the residence and outdoor living space located in the backyard. By planning a colorful and unique landscape design we were able to create graceful transitions with plant combinations, from one area to the next. Throughout the landscape, our design meshes airy ornamental perennials and sculptural woody plants to create a strong visual impression. All of the suggested plant specimens exhibit various forms, colors and textures. Their austere beauty create interest and drama from early spring through the climax of summer, as well the fall and winter.

Planting Plan

Planting Plan Zone 1

Planting Plan Zone 1 incorporates the foundation plantings along the front of the residence. Northern Bayberry creates a glossy, broad-leaf backdrop to the other plant material. Hydrangeas and Azaleas are scattered in front of the Bayberry, strategically placed around the basement windows; this was done to ensure an adequate amount of light enters the lower level of the residence. Sunny Side Up Azaleas are suggested, but existing Azaleas can be used instead or intermixed with the proposed cultivar.

Lilac spp. Prince Charming Lilac

Viburnum carlesii ‘Compactum’ Korean Spice Viburnum

Planting Plan Zone 2 incorporates the foundation plantings along the side of the residence. The majority of existing shrubs will remain in the proposed planting plan; but plant material from Zone 1, such as the Hydrangeas will continue into this area as well. Prince Charming Lilacs are proposed around the back porch to add fragrance and spring time blooms.

Planting Plan Zone 3 Myrica pensylvanica ‘Morton’ Morton Northern Bayberry Viburnum carlesii ‘Compactum’ Korean Spice Viburnum

Geranium ‘Orkney Cherry’ Orkney Cherry Cranesbill

Planting Plan Zone 3 incorporates the newly extended backyard area and terraced walls. Softening the new hardscape features are Northern Bayberry, Oakleaf Hydrangeas and Korean Spice Viburnums. All of these suggested shrubs are repeated in this zone for a fluid planting palette. Both the upper and lower terrace areas are proposed to be filled with both shrubs and perennials.
