s a native Nevadan and Renoite, Dr. Bayo Curry-Winchell ‘97 holds a special love for the Reno community and gives back wherever possible. Whether she is working to keep our community members healthy through her profession and volunteering, or spending time with her husband and two daughters, Dr. BCW is always on the go. A highly respected physician in the Reno area, Dr. BCW has been featured and interviewed on a number of national television networks and publications regarding the COVID pandemic and how it’s affecting northern Nevada residents. These networks and publications include CBS news, BNC, CNN, Cheddar, Newsy, HuffPost, CNN Health line, and now she is a monthly contributor for NV Independent. Miner Messenger: You've been deep-rooted in the Northern
Nevada community for a significant amount of time; briefly tell us about your journey and what this community means to you. Dr. Bayo Curry-Winchell: I was born and raised in Reno, Nevada, and attended Our Lady of the Snows, Bishop Manogue Catholic High School (1997), and graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno (2002). I had an interest in pursuing a medical degree and I decided to earn a master’s degree in physician assis-
tant (PA) studies. I worked for three years as a PA in primary and urgent care. Although I enjoyed working as a PA, I wanted to learn more. Therefore, I decided to become a physician. I completed my medical degree in 2012 and my family medicine residency locally at the University of Nevada, Reno. Upon completion of my medical degree, I was hired by Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center and held the title of Medical Director for Urgent Care. I’m also the Medical Director for the Sexual Assault
