In December we hope you join us for our Christmas “Knees-Up” which by now has to include Ellington’s Nutcracker and the Afro-Cuban band.
Also watch out for a new theme, African Tour, featuring our own Township Band and special guest Tony Dudu. We are also delighted to start to open up the Monday Big Band nights to the community as the famous Birmingham Jazz Orchestra takes up its residency with us on Mon 9 Dec.
In the New Year, amidst Student Presents nights and new Jazz Canon themes, master trombonist John Fedchock appears as guest artist working with our students, and Mike Williams returns for a quartet appearance.
Jazz music is inherently about inclusion, celebrating diversity and curiosity of other cultures and this is epitomised by one of our last dates in January with Tom Bancroft’s In Common that links British folk traditions with Indian music and jazz.
