UPRIGHT TYPES: S, K and EK
Section
T-shaped upright which is 50mm wide by 51mm front to back. The same section is used for both the front and rear uprights within a frame. The upright is formed to create a rectangle hollow section as part of the web, this gives the upright high load carrying capacity with respect to material thickness. The return lips of the section are clinched together at 100mm intervals.
Duty
There are three grades of upright section: Upright S (standard): rolled from 0.7mm thick material, Upright K (heavy): rolled from 0.9mm thick material, and Upright EK (extra heavy): rolled from 1.2mm thick material.
Upright S or K
These uprights can be identified by the grooves along the front face, and the absence of face holes, other than those at either end. Additional the upright type either S or K is punched at 300mm centres along the outside face of the longer return lip.
Upright EK
This upright can be identified by its smooth front face, and the pairs of face holes punched at regular 100mm increments along its length.
Web Holes
The upright web is provided with a series of holes / hooks: Integrated hooks at 25mm increments, to locate the shelves and beams. Oval holes at 100mm increments, for swage fixing frame battens and cladding. Smaller round holes also at 100mm increments, for riveting side braces and battens. continued over page.
