The cutting edge

Biotronics3D develops 3Dnet Medical: the first cloud computing medical imaging service Interview with Walter Hernandez, Operations Executive

QWhat is 3Dnet Medical’s purpose? ATo create a medical imaging community that can be used by anyone – radiologists, medical doctors, and patients – which is quite powerful. At the moment, there is nothing like that. What is cloud computing, and how does 3Dnet Medical utilize that model? It comes back to that definition of a clientserver, that there are certain services that you don’t need to install on your computer. They will be stored on this cloud. You just connect to that network. In this case, we are offering a 3D medical imaging service through the cloud. The client doesn’t need to install anything on his computer. How do you guarantee security and confidentiality of the data? Sharing doesn’t mean that it’s public or that everyone will see it. You have restrictions. You create your own community, your own sites, and you decide which users will use what application. You decide who

you are sharing that data with. What is the main attraction for doctors? It’s very easy to access. It’s also an affordable solution, and you can share data and work everywhere. How do you envision 3Dnet Medical impacting their work? From the radiologist perspective, it will allow them to work from different places, home or wherever. For the patient, this is where we will find the biggest impact. You will be able to be more involved in your own disease management decision process. You will have the opportunity to be in that community. What has the initial response to the product been so far? Everyone has been quite responsive because of the easiness of views and the sharing features. I think everyone is pretty much interested and willing to try it to see how fast it is and how stable it is. There’s quite an interest. We’re in a good position; we have a lot of attention right now. What else would you like to add about 3Dnet Medical? We are doing beyond what is done in the traditional way with an application like this. We are creating a community.
