Heart and Mind‌ the BINA Difference BINA is there every day for thousands of stroke and brain injury survivors of all ages and their families, providing critical guidance and expertise at each stage of the complex rehabilitation process. The brain is the most important organ in the human body and controls everything we do. That is why a brain injury can be so devastating. BINA provides lifesaving assistance to children, adults and seniors who have nowhere else to turn in the aftermath of a brain injury. Our mission is to ensure that no brain injury survivor is alone as they struggle to navigate the long and difficult road to recovery.

A UNIQUE SYSTEM OF SERVICES Rehabilitation Referrals and Care Navigation BINA has thoroughly researched and visited dozens of rehabilitation facilities and therapy centers and works closely with the family to formulate the optimal rehabilitation plan. Our staff is always available to follow up and advocate, ensuring that every possible need is met. Crisis Intervention and Caregiver Support The program provides counseling, support and education to families who are reeling under the pressures and challenges of their sudden entry into the devastating world of brain injury. Services commence during the hospital and rehabilitation stays and continue after homecoming. Support groups are offered for caregivers and survivors and mental health referrals are provided as needed. Case Management Case management works to resolve insurance issues and identify programs, legal options and funding sources. Coordination of the often complicated homecoming process ensures that caregivers are not left to fend for themselves. All educational and residential options are explored so as to afford every individual the best possible quality of life. Medical Advocacy Our medical advocate works with families to identify the optimal clinical setting for a variety of complex medical needs including ventilator care and weaning, dialysis, infection control and wound care. Facilities and providers are researched and visited to ascertain specific areas of expertise. Meetings are held with the family and facility personnel to ensure that the patient’s needs are addressed.

Dear Friends, Thank you for joining us this evening at Annual Dinner of the BINA organization. Your participation and support is an indication of your high regard for the only Jewish organization providing guidance and assistance to stroke and brain injury survivors in the community. As dinner chairman, I would like to extend my personal gratitude and appreciation to the founder and director of BINA, Chavie Glustein, for her incredibly selfless dedication to the families of BINA. It is rare to find an individual who is so completely immersed in relieving the burden of her fellow man. May she and her family be rewarded with only good health and happiness. Tonight, we are delighted to honor Dr. Steven Flanagan of NYU Langone Health Rusk Rehabilitation with the Physician Leadership Award; fellow Board of Directors member and dear friends of BINA, Richard and Frieda Bobo, with the Distinguished Service Award; and BINA’s greatly respected Director of Case Manager and her distinguished husband, Rabbi and Mrs. Shmuel and Tzippy Friedler, with the Community Impact Award. Thank you to their family, friends and colleagues who have joined us this evening to celebrate a well-deserved honor. BINA has grown tremendously since its founding in 2003 both in size and scope and to date has assisted over 3,500 stroke and brain injury survivors of all ages. But they can’t do it alone. It is only with your support that BINA can fulfill its mission of ensuring that no brain injury survivor will be left to stand alone while on the difficult road to recovery. We hope you enjoy the dinner and we thank you for being there for BINA. Sincerely,

Avi Schron Dinner Chairman

Dear Friends, It is my pleasure as chairman of the Board of Directors of BINA to welcome you tonight. We all share a common goal of ensuring the success of an exceptional organization whose dedicated staff works diligently to ensure that brain injury survivors are given every chance for the best possible recovery. Under the direction of Chavie Glustein, whom I have come to know and respect as a tireless and fiercely devoted advocate for all those who turn to BINA, this unique organization is doing tremendous work for an underserved population that desperately needs their guidance and assistance. Congratulations to tonight’s esteemed honorees, Dr. Steven Flanagan of NYU Langone Health Rusk Rehabilitation, recipient of the Physician Leadership Award; Richard and Frieda Bobo, who will be presented with the Distinguished Service Award; and Rabbi and Mrs. Shmuel and Tzippy Friedler, recipients of the Community Impact Award. I would like to extend my personal gratitude to Richard Bobo, a long serving member of the Board of Directors, for his continued dedication and efforts on behalf of BINA. Thank you for your support and for joining us this evening. Sincerely,

Naftali Horowitz Chairman, Board of Directors

Dear Friends, When I founded BINA in 2003, my intention was simply to ensure that no family experiencing the upheaval of brain injury would stand alone as they navigated the complex maze of the rehabilitation system. Never did I imagine the great need that existed amongst brain injury survivors for guidance and support. But the need is there, and I am grateful that we have been able to help over 3,500 families affected by the brain injury of a loved one, with an ever increasing number of new families turning to us on a daily basis. It is critical that we continue to grow as an organization by increasing the scope of our services, raising awareness in the community about the reality of brain injury and the critical importance of prevention efforts. We must also increase our visibility and expand our reach nationally and internationally so that every brain injury survivor who struggles in isolation becomes aware of our work and reaches out for help. Our mission is clear but we can’t do it alone. BINA is there every day for brain injury survivors. Please be there for BINA. Thank you for joining us this evening.

Chavie Glustein Director

Rabbi Shmuel and Tzippy Friedler Community Impact Award

Rabbi Shmuel and Tzippy Friedler have devoted their lives to bettering the lives of countless individuals in a variety of capacities over the years. Residents of Far Rockaway, they are the proud parents and grandparents of a beautiful family who live in Flatbush, Marine Park, Far Rockaway, North Woodmere, Lakewood and Minneapolis. R’ Shmuel grew up in Washington Heights, where his father, Rabbi Naftoli Friedler ob”m was the first Rosh Yeshiva of the Beth Medrash of Yeshiva Rabbi S.R. Hirsch who later became Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Ner Yisroel in Toronto. R’ Shmuel learned in the Talmudical Yeshiva of Philadelphia where he developed a close relationship with Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky shli”ta which he maintains until the present day. Tzippy grew up in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, where her father, Rabbi Yitzchok Kerzner served as spiritual leader. In later years, Rabbi Kerzner was the long time Rabbi of the Clanton Park Synagogue in Toronto, where he still resides. After their marriage, the Friedlers moved to Richmond, Virginia, spending several years doing outreach and community work and raising the first of their children. They later moved to Brooklyn where Rabbi Friedler served as spiritual leader of the Tree of Life Synagogue for over a dozen years. More recently, the Friedlers became residents of Far Rockaway where they are members of Khal Bais Shmuel Aba, led by Rabbi Aron Katz, and Agudath Israel of West Lawrence under the leadership of Rabbi Moshe Brown. Tzippy is the dedicated Director of Case Management of BINA where she devotes a great deal of time and energy to advocating with the greatest compassion and expertise for stroke and brain injury survivors. Before coming to BINA, Tzippy held several positions including Intake Coordinator at HASC (the Hebrew Academy for Special Children).

Richard grew up in Clearwater, Florida, and later moved to New York where he met and married his Brooklyn-born wife, Frieda, nee Sutton, a graduate of Yeshiva of Flatbush. Frieda and Richard are the proud parents of six beautiful children, all attending or alumni of Yeshiva Ateret Torah. Their daughter Gloria and her husband Abraham Haboba, son of Sabri and Sarah Haboba, live in Brooklyn with their three young sons. To the

HONOREES, ATTENDEES AND FRIENDS Thank you for opening your heard and mind to help... Make understood that which is hard to understand; Do what's hard to get done; Speak that which is hard to be spoken; Go, when the going is tough and it's unknown to where.

May you never know, what it means to not know. May you never have to forget, what it means to not remember. May your faculties always respond as you intend them to. May all these matters always be as strange and foreign to you as it was to them a moment before it wasn't.

But for all those impacted by stroke and brain injury, help them actualize and maximize the hope, heart and mind.

With you, we can all progress.

TZIPPY FRIEDLER An honor well deserved for all that you do. It's a pleasure to call you my friend.

Beffie Keilson

To

MOMMY A person like you is hard to describe on paper. Should we write about your love? Your devotion? Your patience? It just doesn't seem right, because no matter how many pages we would be able to fill up with our love for you, it would never suffice. As much as we poke fun at your office chairs, two screens, and dark office, we honestly know what it's all for. We know the amount of time, love, patience, and concern that you put into your family and families. And yes, as much as we dread those weeks before the dinner, when we go starving and never see you and never go to bed (okay, fine! Not really...), we are unable to express how proud we are of you and just how much we love you.

Welcome back!

Yehuda Yitzchok Leib Chana Shira Glustein
