Different Reasons.

same reward.

Each of us has his own reason for loving motorcycles. For some it’s the freedom of the open road. For others it’s a quick escape from the daily grind. Pro builders and home customizers say it’s the sense of pride from a job well done that makes the challenge worth the toil. No matter where you stand on the matter—rigid or swingarm, stock or modified, high-speed or low-tech—we’ve got hard parts and riding gear to make all your two-wheeled pursuits more rewarding. Our commitment to custom motorcycles and the culture surrounding them is everywhere—at the grassroots events we promote, the builders we support and the bikeriders who choose our products. This catalog pays homage to the people and places that got us where we are. Hopefully it will inspire you to do things and go places you’ve only dreamed of. After all, isn’t that the most rewarding part of owning a motorcycle?

Hooligan dirt track racer Mark “The Rusty Butcher” Atkins preaches a credo that sums up custom motorcycle parts perfectly. “Good stuff ain’t cheap, and cheap stuff ain’t good.” Nowhere is this more evident than our range of handlebar risers for HarleyDavidson motorcycles. Consider the Biltwell Murdock. While 200 bucks might seem like a king’s ransom for risers, to Mark—who regularly lofts his H-D XL over 90-foot gaps—it’s money in the bank. That’s because Mark knows every Biltwell riser boasts investmentcast stainless-steel or 4130 chromoly construction. After drilling, tapping and surface prepping, Murdock risers are TIG welded with 4130 chromoly uprights for unrivaled stiffness and strength. Short models in the Biltwell riser range boast the same cast construction, functional and aesthetic detailing before receiving chrome or matte black electroplating for beauty and resistance to the elements.

MURDOCK PULLBACK RISERS Two inches of rear offset may not sound like a lot, but it’s enough to cure back discomfort after four or five hundred miles in the saddle. Pullback Murdock risers for 1-inch handlebars accomplish this feat by moving the handlebar centerline closer to your shoulders, reducing the amount of stretching required to comfortably hold the hand controls on big cruisers and FXRs.

Two inches of backsweep is measured from the handlebar center to the center of the threaded mounting holes on the uprights. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but it’s enough to put the handlebars right where they need to be for shorter riders on full-sized Big Twins

MURDOCK RISERS: 100% 4130 chromoly

Murdock risers feature investment-cast steel top clamps and lower threaded bases connected by two 1-inch O.D. x 0.120” wall seamless 4130 chromoly tubes. After TIG welding the finished unit is hand polished and triple chrome or matte black plated for style and durability. The threaded bases on Murdock risers are on 3.5inch centers to fit most stock and aftermarket H-D triple trees with removable bar clamps. Murdock riser’s one-piece handlebar clamp is spaced to accept most stock H-D speedo and tach brackets. Two 1/2-13 grade-8 bolts are included for easy installation. Available only for 1” handlebars. 6

GORDO RISERS Built for springers, 49mm H-D forks and fat aftermarket front ends Gordo gives late-model H-D owners a clean, beefy option for installing 1-inch O.D. handlebars. Each investment-cast, hand-polished chromoly steel riser features a hollow cross-section instead of a threaded base so included 1/2-13 Allen cap hardware can be used for mounting to springers or top trees. Available only for 1” handlebars.

THREE’S A CHARM. Mike D’s Sex Panther III.

Whether by marketing genius, blind ambition or dumb luck, Harley-Davidson struck gold again when an army of bikeriders weaponized with smartphones and wanderlust turned The MoCo’s much maligned Sportster into #TheNextBigThing on Instagram. Our own Mike Ellis was an early adopter in the self-taught DIY movement that grew strong in the wake of social media. The original Sex Panther Mike and friends built from scratch nearly a decade ago marked the first time our faithful GM touched flap disk to raw steel. Mike’s noodling on that first chopper has never ceased, with every subsequent version of the Panther topping the last. Fifty percent of the time Mike’s mechanical wizardry works every time, and that’s a fact even Ron Burgundy believes in.

Version 3.0 of Mike Ellis’s chameleonic Sportster features these Biltwell parts: Zed handlebars / Thunder riser / Whiskey throttle / Torker grips Utility Mirror / Sanderson and Mushman foot pegs / Ripple ignition cover / Builder’s exhaust kit / Model D taillights / Fabricator’s license plate bracket

Ergonomics is the science of man’s physical relationship to the machines that surround him. Prevailing wisdom dictates the more comfortably a person feels behind the bars on his motorcycle, the more safely and efficiently he will perform. We’re not rocket surgeons, but we take this science seriously, especially as it applies to handlebar design. Because we enjoy riding and modifying so many different kinds of motorcycles—everything from dualsports and dirt bikes to Dynas and shovelheads—we’ve learned a lot about the comfort and aesthetics of handlebars. This year’s range of Biltwell bars is our most eclectic ever, and has something for practically everyone. Of course every set is precision crafted and TIG welded with 0.120” wall 4130 chromoly for strength, and chrome or black electroplated for lasting beauty. Unless stated, all handlebars are 1” diameter.

RE-BAR Bolt our new Re-Bar onto your hand-built deathtrap and you’ll look like the hero of a David Mann painting in no time. Aggressive 45-degree backsweep gives these bars their distinctive look, and makes them perfect for practically any chopper with stretched forks.

W: 20” / H: 9.45” / B” 9.0”

WINDOW A medium rise box bar for fixed and removable risers on centers below 5.5 inches. Vertical uprights follow the lines set by H-D Narrow Glide/Sportster forks perfectly. Also a great-looking bar on lean British and Japanese customs.

W: 27” / H: 9” / B: 1.5”

FLYER A simple medium-rise handlebar that looks and feels great on garage-built choppers, Dyna Low Riders and practically everything in between. Generous backsweep improves ergonomics on any motorcycle with a long backbone.

W: 30 / H: 6.75” / B: 6.75”

APES Perhaps still small by modern apehanger standards, we think our Apes are right-sized for any stripped-down big twin custom. Visually our Apes flow nicely into the stanchions on Wide Glide trees to create a look that’s correct, period.

W: 32” / H: 12” at bends/9.5” at bar ends / B: 9”

TYSON Our first unit construction handlebar is a clean choice for bikeriders and home customizers looking for the club style on their FXR or Dyna. Available in three heights (10-, 12- and 14inch) with dimples for stock external wiring or drilled for custom internal wiring.

W: 30.5” / H: 10”, 12”, 14” / B: 2.75”

TRACKER If you’re going for the street tracker look, you can’t do better than our number-one selling handlebar. Low and wide for a speedy stance on everything from modern and vintage British iron, Japanese customs and the ever-popular Harley XL.

W: 30.5” / H: 1.75” / B: 1.75”

TRACKER HIGH Fans of the club style will dig our new Tracker High’s perfect backsweep and 4-inch rise, which provides enough room between the top bends on tall risers to see the speedo. If you’re a tall guy on a small bike, the Tracker XL is comfortable without being clunky, stylish without being over-decorated. We’ve run them on stock Sporties and Dynas and they look and feel great.

ZED A compact handlebar to turn your stripped-down chopper into a lane-splitting freedom machine. One of the narrowest bars in our line designed to work with risers.

W: 24” / H: 5” / B: 3.5”

W: 30.5” / H: 4” / B: 2.75”

CLUBMAN FRISCO In standard configuration this extremely flat, medium height Biltwell bar is the perfect accessory for toughening the look and spirit of your modified machine. Trim the ends, ditch the idiot switches and upgrade to aftermarket hand controls and our Frisco bar is the first step to building a great lane splitter for city assaults.

Our take on the ton-up classic can be installed tips up to create a tough look on a low-slung chopper, or mounted conventionally on most British, American or Japanese motorcycles to achieve the classic café racer look. For this reason, Biltwell Clubmans aren’t dimpled for stock H-D hand controls.

W: 29.5” / H: 4” at points / 0” at bar ends / B: 6.5”

W: 28.5” / H: 7” / B: 0.75”

A semi-narrow four-bend classic that looks great and feels even better on practically any stock or custom motorcycle you can imagine. We’ve seen our Chump bar on shovels, panheads, stock and hardtail Sportsters, and even one Triumph America.

Two inches of additional width breathed new life into an already popular bar by making its proportions better suited for big machines. If you’re into splitting lanes, simply cut our H-2 down to size.

W: 30.5” / H: 8” at bends, 6” at ends / B: 6.5”

W: 24.5” / H: 8.65” / B: 2.8”

KEYSTONE Our first handlebar, the Keystone looks best on any stock or custom bike with a narrow profile and a short backbone. Think Sportsters, Yamaha XS650’s or vintage Triumphs. If you love the look but your bike is bigger than any of these, check out our new Keystone XL.

W: 28.5” / H: 5” / B: 2.25”

KEYSTONE XL We developed our Keystone XL bar for late-model heavy cruisers. Wider, taller and provides slightly more backsweep than its smaller stable mate. Looks and feels great on Dynas, Softails or Evo and Twin Cam customs.

W: 31” / H: 8.5” / B: 2.25”

ZERO DRAG There’s an unwritten rule in chopper aesthetics we follow religiously: the taller the riser, the lower the bar. If you’re considering our new Murdock riser in 12- or 14-inch rise, you’ll love the Zero Drag. Narrow enough for aggressive lane splitting, flat as a pancake to nail the club bike T-bar style.

W: 24” / H: 0” / B: 2”

MAYNARD The third narrowest bar in the Biltwell quiver that still fits stock and aftermarket risers on 3.5-inch mounting centers. Looking for even more lane-splitting capability? Ditch the stock switchgear and trim another inch of each side. Now you’re at 21.5 inches.

W: 23.5” / H: 2” / B: 3.5”

Reversible bar pad available separately

Our heavy-duty take on a ‘70s motocross classic features a wide stance and minimal pullback so you can muscle your machine through twisty tarmac and rock-riddled fire road. Moto bars look especially good on Triumph Scramblers, custom street trackers and old enduro machines.

Another great bar for riders whose hands are tied to stock length cables and wiring, or anyone looking for a clean, no-frills cockpit on their motorcycle.

W: 31” / H: 4.25” / B: 2.75”

riding America’s

blue ridge parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a two-lane ribbon of undulating asphalt that stretches 469 miles between Ashville, North Carolina and Charlotte, Virginia, through the Appalachian Forest’s Blue Ridge mountain range. Dubbed “America’s favorite drive” by US Forestry Service PR flacks, after cruising its length last summer, several members of Biltwell’s road crew can verify that claim. For pure motorcycle goodness, few stretches of twisting tarmac are more satisfying.

The R&D brain trust at Biltwell grew its two-wheeled roots on the sugary dirt-bike tracks of Florida and the scorching hot deserts of SoCal. Consequently, our opinion on motorcycle grips is slightly myopic. Put short and sweet, we like them soft and affordable, not billet-alloy hard and spendy. If flame print aluminum grips made sense from a performance perspective you’d find them on the Doctor’s GP bike, or the GOAT’s RM-Z450. Both these bad asses earn a living with simple injection-molded grips on their bar ends. If it’s good enough for them, it’s plenty good enough for us. Retrofitting Biltwell grips on stock H-D hand controls requires replacing the throttle tube, and our Whiskey tube is perfect for this task. We offer five styles in five colors and two different bar end diameters, so there’s a Biltwell grip for damn near everyone. Grab a pair—they do their job right.

THRUSTER One of our most popular grip designs. Diamond pillow surfacing is comfortable, but wears like a champ. Tall flange provides cushioning between rider’s thumb and bulbous stock H-D control pods.

Recoil’s football shaped no-flange design is a modern spin on the classic Coke bottle grip. Thick mid-section and crosshatched surfacing wear well over time.

Squishy surface design is comfortable the minute you sink your fists into them. Medium size flange, molded Krayton construction.

Same fat crosshatched mid-section as our Recoil grip, but with a bulbous end and large flange for more modern dirt track style.

Same end and flange as Recoil, same surface section as Thruster, same molded Krayton construction as all Biltwell grips.

DUAL CABLE WHISKEY THROTTLE Eight steel ferrules included with every 2-cable Whiskey throttle allow custom installation with stock H-D throttle cables over a broad range of model years

Polished aluminum housing/raw alloy tube Black electroplate housing/black anodized throttle tube

SINGLE CABLE WHISKEY THROTTLE The vast majority of motorcycles on Earth ran just fine with one throttle cable before the Safety Police decided to add a second one, just in case. Same construction features and benefits as our 2-cable Whiskey throttle. Four steel ferrules included.

Black electroplate housing/black anodized throttle tube Polished aluminum/housing with raw alloy tube

WHISKEY THROTTLE TUBE CNC’ed 6061 T-6 aluminum throttle tube retrofits a wide range of stock HarleyDavidson hand controls to make installing Biltwell grips easy. Features the same 2-cable configuration as our Whiskey throttle to work with all cable-activated carbs and EFI. Black electroplate finish, or raw aluminum.

WHISKEY THROTTLE CABLE FERRULES Every Biltwell Whiskey throttle assembly includes a selection of clip-in and threaded ferrules. These nickel-plated steel cable attachments allow easy retrofitment with a wide range of stock Harley cables.

Mike “Otto” Deutsch used these Biltwell parts to raise his ’93 FXR from the ashes: Murdock riser / Tracker XL handlebars Whiskey throttle / Renegade grips / EXFIL-7 bag / Rocker & Mushman foot pegs / Utility mirrors

Mike Deutsch is our resident road warrior and unrepentant Instagram addict. When he isn’t searching hashtags or hawking tired hip hop lyrics as clever captions on the @biltwell feed, he haunts swap meets from Sacto to the LBC looking for long deals on big-twin booty. This FXR is Otto’s finest score. Mike sold his last FXR for a cool ten grand a year ago to finance the resurrection of this one, a ’93 that earned its salvage title when Biltwell co-worker Hayden Brooks took it for a test flight in the diamond lane on the 215. Using the unholy powers of digital influence that live in his thumbs, Mike texted and tagged his way into a Corsair fork from Gigastatt Cycles, fresh paint from OC’s top gunslinger Matt Ross and at least another dozen hook-ups and brodowns from friends in high places. The finished machine is a reliable high-speed runner, and has helped Mike pull at least eight thousand dollars’ worth of OC “sevens” by his calculation. By this metric, that’s money well spent.

Anyone who compares mirrors on a chopper to tits on a boar hog has probably never ridden with one, and for good reason—most look cheap at best, or gaudy and over-styled in the extreme. Done right, motorcycle mirrors can actually enhance the style of your ride while providing an added measure of safety on the fly. Biltwell Utility mirrors are available in single left-side or pairs, and feature two shapes—round or rectangular—to complement the aesthetic of any custom motorcycle you can imagine. Mounting styles include a threaded perch with stainless-steel button Allen bolt for H-D hand controls or our super-clean P-clamp for 7/8- or 1-inch bars. In brilliant show chrome or durable matte black powdercoat, every precision die-cast alloy Utility mirror features a tempered glass lens and stainless-steel ball pivot and mounting hardware for weather resistance and durability. Available as left side only or pairs.

Rectangle Perch Mount Black Electroplate

A single button cap Allen bolt secures Biltwell Utility mirror perch through the hole on stock and select aftermarket H-D hand controls.

Round Perch Mount Chrome Perch mount Utility mirrors are available in pairs or singles for the clutch side. Our clever ball and socket assembly is reversible so you can run your single mirror on the throttle side if that’s your preference.

Round Bar Mount Black Electroplate

Our hinged bar clamp is sculpted from 6061 T-6 billet aluminum. A single button cap Allen bolt screws into bottom of mirror perch to secure the entire assembly on your handlebar.

Rectangle Bar Mount Chrome

Biltwell Utility mirrors for bar mounting feature a beautiful CNC’ed aluminum P-clamp in 7/8- or 1-inch size. Chrome and black, round or rectangle styles available.

CHAMPION & CHALLENGER SEATS We offer two solo seats for stock ’06-up Dynas, each built on the same rugged and lightweight vacuum-formed ABS plastic pan. Their unique silhouettes achieved by creating two different molded polyurethane foam shapes. Round and thick on the Challenger, angular and low profile on the Champion to accentuate the Dyna’s flowing lines through the battery box and beneath the subframe.

GET OFF THE COUCH. WHY BUY A SEAT THAT LOOKS LIKE ONE? Scan the parking lot at any biker roadhouse and it wouldn’t be a stretch to conclude there are only two kinds of motorcycle seats: soft as a cloud or hard as hell. We thought the same thing, which is why our bolt-on seats for stock late-model Harley-Davidsons and select Hinckley Triumphs fits nicely in the middle–not too big, not too hard, just right. We’ve always been fans of the less-is-more aesthetic, and our range of rugged yet lightweight, streamlined and comfortable seats is proof. Two-up or solo, XL or Dyna—every Biltwell bolt-on is made better by what it lacks. Less bulk. No fluff. No flash. Ride one and you’ll never look at your couch the same way again.

SPENCER SEAT British Prime Minister Winston Spencer Churchill saved England from defeat in WWII, pulling Great Britain’s most enduring and beloved motorcycle marque from the ashes in the process. Our seat for Hinckley Triumphs is the last word in comfort and style for these modern British twins. Fits Bonneville, Scrambler and Thruxton models from 2001 through 2015 without fuss or fanfare.

After serving his country in Afghanistan, Victor Offut traded his digital camo and M4 for some 501’s and a ghastly but reliable H-D XL. The previous owner had festooned that Sportster with every gadget and gizmo you could imagine, and even had the audacity to call his Craig’s List classic a “bobber.” After landing his customerservice job at Biltwell, Vic—a man of few words and even less taste for decorations and labels—rolled his donor bike into our shop for some tuning and grinding with co-workers and friends. A few months later Vic’s leaner, meaner XL was ready for action. Not a bobber, not a chopper and definitely not a stocker, Vic simply calls his daily commuter and weekend escape vehicle a “motorcycle.” It may not be perfect, but it’s perfect for him.

Victor’s freedom machine features plenty of ammo from our XL arsenal: Café seat / Mushman pegs / Finned derby cover Model B taillight with ribbed backing plate / Murdock risers / Zero Drag handlebars / Whiskey throttle / Torker grips

The made-for-TV chopper drama that flooded basic cable in the early 2000’s wasn’t high art, but it shined a bright light on the virtues and value of blue-collar craftsmanship—welding, metal fabrication, that sort of thing. Building stuff with your own hands is honorable, like recycling or raising kids, but without the hippy stigma or long-term expense. The Biltwell builder’s exhaust kit was one of our first products, and is still a go-to for home and pro bike builders. Taillights, header flanges, license plate brackets, foot pegs—every part in our DIY line is built for easy bolt-on or can be tweaked to suit your needs for different custom applications.

BUILDER’S EXHAUST PIPE KIT The Biltwell Builder’s Exhaust Kit has everything you need to fabricate a set of custom straight pipes for your V-Twin. Four sets of stock Harley header flanges plus a pair of STD flanges come with every kit. Two each 5-inch and 3-1/2-inch radius U-bends are also included, plus two 45-degree bends and plenty of straight sections, fishtails, trumpet tips and bologna cuts for custom fabrication. All material is 1-3/4-inch O.D. 16-gauge rolled steel.

LED Taillights and Accessories for DIY Customizers

Today’s preferred aesthetic for custom motorcycle componentry eschews gimmicks and trickery, favoring instead a level of clean style and functional reliability unheard of even a decade ago. Remember vintage bathtub knobs on jockey shifters? Stuff like that doesn’t fly anymore. Biltwell taillights embody this less-is-more ethos perfectly, which might explain why you see them so often on pro- and homebuilt show bikes. A talented fabricator could cobble a taillight from an old salt shaker, but why, when there’s a Biltwell taillight or mounting accessory for any application you can imagine. Fendermounted cast taillights. CNC’ed side-mount designs. Axle brackets for mounting taillight and license plate assemblies on rigid frames. DIY plates for fabricating a sissy bar that does it all. If you can design it, chances are we offer a taillight to suit your needs.

Sissy bar with license plate

Sissy bar Our 1/8-inch thick laser-cut steel Alphabet fab brackets let you create a variety of custom taillight mounting options. We offer three styles: fender, sissy bar, and sissy bar with license plate bracket. Each design features pre-cut holes for mounting hardware and wiring.

BACKING PLATES Our Smooth and Ribbed backing plates finish the look of your custom taillight assembly by bolting to the back of any Biltwell Alphabet series taillight with two Allen screws. A narrow channel inside each backing plate routes the LED wiring downward to clean up the assembly in Model A style brackets. CNC’ed 6061 aluminum construction. Hand polished and black electroplated finishes available.

The trimmest of our Alphabet series taillight silhouettes, the Biltwell Model D was featured on several winners at motorcycle shows in 2015. Our Smooth backing plate complements the clean lines and trim proportions of this taillight perfectly.

The trumpet-shaped edge of our Model E taillight gives the red lens inside a Frenched appearance. Pairs well with our Ribbed or Smooth backing plate to complete your custom creation.

Outer circumference of our Model C taillight extends beyond its 2-5/8-inch base O.D. to increase its scale and proportion on larger motorcycles. Molded polycarbonate lens fastens securely with two 5-40 Phillips head screws.

When it comes to taillights on custom motorcycles, smart builders favor style and dependability over gimmicks and trickery. Our range of elegant investment-cast and rugged CNC-machined DIY taillights embody this less-is-more ethos perfectly, and features problem solving parts and accessories for side-, fender- and sissy bar-mounted taillight solutions.

The 16-element LED inside every Biltwell taillight features a 2mm layer of waterproof silicone sealing to protect its circuit board from the elements. A small detail, perhaps, but we sweat the little things so you can focus on what really matters—building and riding your custom motorcycle.

Our investment-cast aluminum taillight is roughly five-eighths the scale of the classic Sparto from which it takes inspiration. Features include our durable polycarbonate lens and weather-resistant two-phase LED. Shown in raw polished alloy finish.

Another investment-cast jewel for your hand-built motorcycle. The Biltwell Bullet can be mounted practically anywhere to create a clean and discrete taillight solution. Black electroplate finish shown.

SOLUTION BRACKET The answer for axle-mounting Biltwell Alphabet series taillights and license plates on rigid custom choppers. Its modular design features a cold-forged aluminum bracket that accepts two different 3/4-inch I.D. steel hat washers to engage with a variety of axles and frame designs. Three different prefab taillight/plate mounts for the Solution bracket are available: Horizontal, Vertical or Plate Only. Each fastens to the Solution bracket with 1/4-20 recessed Allen bolts to provide a variety of custom installation options. Two finishes available: raw polished alloy or black electroplate.

When you consider the role feet play in the control of your motorcycle, our obsession with pegs is almost justified. At the premium end of the Biltwell range you’ll find our Sanderson and Mushman styles. Both designs feature investment-cast stainless-steel peg construction with cast chromoly clevises for a style that harkens back to motorcycle customizing’s glory days. More affordable but no less rugged, our Rocker pegs boast CNC’ed 6061 T-6 aluminum construction with knurling deep enough to grip the hardest soles. If your style demands a retro perspective, our Norman pegs are perfect. Their durable molded hard rubber sleeves look right at home on British, Euro or American customs, new or old. Bonus for modern Brit bike riders: our Rocker, Mushman and Norman pegs fit ‘01- ‘15 Hinckley Triumph Bonnie and Scrambler models.

Investment-cast stainless steel peg bolts onto our conical chromoly clevis with a 5/16-18 Allen cap screw to provide 360 degrees of peg rotation for a custom fit. Clevises fit most late-model Harley-Davidson foot peg brackets with little or no modification required.

Same lost-wax casting construction and stainless-steel material as our Sanderson pegs, but with an MX-inspired design that pays homage to Steve McQueen’s alter ego at the Elsinore Gran Prix. Two clevises available: H-D and Hinckley Triumph. Shown in raw polished finish.

Rubber foot pegs were all the rage in the ‘60s, and now they’re back. Biltwell Norman peg cribs their style from Bates pegs, but utilize our cast clevis and machined alloy core to improve fitment and increase durability. Black PVC peg is super durable, yet soft enough to isolate vibration and provide traction.

CNC lathe turned 6061 T-6 aluminum peg with investment-cast 4130 chromoly clevis. Deep knurling and side flanges for solid engagement on boots and shoes. Two clevis choices available: Harley-Davidson or Hinckley Triumph to fit Bonnevilles and Scramblers. Silver anodized finish shown. 4.125” long x 1.375” wide x 1.125” tall

STRUTS Designed with late-model Sportster pilots in mind, but crafty customizers can install our TIG-welded shock struts on swingarm bikes of all sizes. Vertical tubes are 0.120” wall DOM steel; eyelets are CNC lathe turned billet bar stock. Black electroplated finish for style and durability.

Charles Holloway’s 2009 FXD is an homage to the Motor Company’s revered ’82 Sturgis LE, and features these Biltwell parts for show and go: Mushman mid foot pegs /Sanderson forward pegs / Continental seat / Tracker handlebars / Renegade grips

Charles Holloway’s 9-to-5 is a hustle every working-class hero can relate to. Managing HVAC systems at a US Air Force base is a thankless job until someone breaks a sweat, then every hothead in a piss cutter has his boot so far up Charley’s starfish he can taste the lint in their socks. Given that kind of pressure, it’s no wonder the kid from Arroyo Grande spends practically every waking minute clocking high-speed miles up and down California’s Central Coast. The quest for freedom is a powerful force that drives Charles and millions of modern bikeriders just like him. It is those riders and their experiences that drive us, so everybody wins.

THE Rusty Butcher

For Mark Atkins, “Work Less, Ride More” isn’t just the slogan on a perennially out-of-stock Rusty Butcher t-shirt, it’s the way he lives 24/7. Respected by a loyal army of fearless 20-somethings and loathed by practically every single-digit dirt track pro with less than a thousand friends on Facebook, Mark put himself and his Rusty Butcher brand on the map the new-fashioned way: one Snap, Insta pic and 90-second YouTube clip at a time. Mark’s exploits aboard his hopped-up XL are legendary, and got him noticed by social-media gurus at The Motor Company. Today Mark spends his days dreaming up ways to torment Sportsters and Street 750s faster than his buddies can edit videos promoting his exploits. We’re such huge fans of Mark’s fuck-it formula, we’re dropping our first collab lid ever: The Rusty Butcher Lane Splitter. Butcher tested, ECE 22.05 and DOT approved.

Lane Splitter is our first DOT- and ECE-compliant helmet for high-performance motorcycle riders. The European Union’s strict ECE R 22.05 safety standard involves subjecting a helmet to violent forces across a wide range of impact angles and velocities. Sophisticated machinery collects data to determine each helmet’s ability to reduce these forces to improve the wearer’s chance of surviving a crash. ECE R 22.05 is widely regarded as the highest standard for motorcycle helmets in the world. Our Lane Splitter meets this standard, and is US DOT compliant, too. Creating one helmet that does it all wasn’t easy, and took years of development and testing to get right. With styling inspired by ‘80s top fuel drag racing, Lane Splitter’s advancements in fit, comfort and safety take Biltwell riding gear into a whole new direction. To meet US and European safety standards, the Lane Splitter had to be tough. To clear our own high bar for all-day comfort, it had to be light. To merge these opposing traits into one helmet, we manufacture Lane Splitter’s Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene shell using precision injection-molding technology. ABS is a thermosetting plastic with great impact resistance, structural integrity and surface smoothness. High-pressure injection molding takes full advantage of these properties to create an aggressive silhouette that’s both rugged and beautiful. Inside the Lane Splitter you’ll find the same high-performance safety materials and attention to detail that made our Bonanza helmet a Hot Bike magazine Editor’s Choice in 2014. Lane Splitter raises the stakes by utilizing expanded polystyrene foam in the shell and chin bar for maximum energy dissipation at a wider variety of impact angles. Higher volumes of safety foam can increase weight or compromise airflow, however, so the Lane Splitter features ventilation on the front, back and sides to evacuate moisture when it occurs. Of course, the Lane Splitter’s comfort liner, cheek pads and BioFoam chin spoiler are removable for easy replacement and cleanup. 54

We certainly didn’t popularize the stripped-down aesthetic our Gringo so faithfully emulates—that honor belongs to every safety-conscious racecar driver in the early ‘70s. Five decades hence we’ll gladly take credit for resurrecting a helmet style that should never have disappeared in the first place. Our Gringo full-face evolved from the modern custom bikerider’s need for more protection than any standard open-face helmet can provide. The looks says “cool” not “kook,” and that’s just the way we like it.

When you’ve logged as many miles on old motorcycles as Bill Bryant has, you earn a taste for things like speed and reliability the old-fashioned way—on the side of the road, one popped fuse, fouled plug and rusty clutch cable at a time. When it was time to build his next chopper, our ambitious brand manager knew where he was headed. The Mile Muncher is a bulletproof runner by every practical measure, but has better bones, muscle and build quality than similar machines in Bill’s stable. After sharing his vision with friends at S&S Cycle, Lowbrow Customs and Drag Specialties, all three companies provided parts for Bill’s time machine. Dalton Walker at SIK Customs and famed leather crafter Duane Ballard loaned a hand to build the wheels and custom seat, and Matt Ross shot the paint that graces Bill’s modern take on an enduring chopper classic.

In the sixties helmet visors looked like sugar scoops, curvy and blunt, with barely enough leading edge to block low-hanging sun from your eyes. Aerodynamics were coming into play, and car racers learned the hard way too-long visors put a strain on their necks at high speed. The seventies heralded a new direction in visor style, with long, wide duckbills leading the charge to keep flying mud and debris from peppering an MX racer’s face. The eighties were all about style, with the coolest visors flowing seamlessly into the helmet’s outer shell to create a new, swoopy whole. Accessory visors with snaps died in this decade, save for a few cheesy stragglers that came free with cheap import lids. eBay has kept the retro visor market alive ever since, with the coolest designs fetching hundreddollar price tags. McGoo is our resident visor snob and way too cheap to pay that kind of money for a 30-year-old chunk of plastic, so he worked with our bubble shield factory to create his crowning achievement in helmet couture— the Biltwell Moto visor. Molded from impact-resistant polycarbonate plastic, our Moto visor melds the best elements of ‘60s auto racing and ‘70s MX style into a shape that looks great on any helmet with three snaps across the brow, but especially so on our Bonanza and Gringo skid lids.

Overland’s rugged yet flexible polyurethane frame boasts a narrow silhouette and precise optical arc to maximize peripheral vision and reduce blind spots. Foam filtration on the brow and both sides of the nose bridge lets the goggle breathe to reduce fogging in adverse conditions. Two-phase foam padding around the eye port features a quilted, brushed Lycra surface layer to wick moisture away from your skin. Two laser CNC’ed polycarbonate lenses are included with every goggle: one clear and one tinted. Both injection-molded lenses feature the most reliable anti-fog coating available to deliver distortionfree visual clarity and maximum protection. A woven—not screenprinted— elastic strap with double D-ring adjusters and anti-slip silicone stripping is hand sewn to embossed synthetic leather frame fasteners to complete the Overland goggle’s clean retro/tech aesthetic.

Timeless graphics and colorways give Moto 2 pure style without feeling trendy or grossly over-designed. Tinted and clear anti-fog polycarbonate lenses are available for visual fine-tuning. Gypsy Run MC Walt Gemeinhardt has been showing East Coast bikeriders how to have a good time for a ten years. No vendor tents, Jurassic era rock bands or Official Anything are visible at his Gypsy Runs, and that’s what makes these events so memorable.

Do we stop riding motorcycles because we get old, or do we get old because we stop riding motorcycles? That depends on your idea of a good time. If swilling eight-dollar longnecks at a wet t-shirt contest puts lead in your pencil, the grass-root rides that put Biltwell’s name on the map probably aren’t your quart of 40-weight. If you like your choppers dirty, your women loud and your campgrounds cheap—or any combination thereof—events like the Gypsy Run, El Diablo Run and Catalina Wine Mixer are calling your name. There’s an odd satisfaction in the shared misery of a few hundred men and women sleeping in a muddy holler after throwing hatchets and cooking s’mores ‘til three a.m. Grass-roots events have low costs and even lower expectations, and that’s why we love them. Too many moving parts seldom makes anything better—only more complicated and less reliable. Strip away the BS at any mega rally and what do you get? Booze, bikes and bros if you’re lucky, and that’s plenty.

“More beer, less gear” is a popular credo among two-wheeled road warriors. Our own Bill Bryant has been known to leave for a long weekend with a bivy sack, the clothes on his back and nothing else. Too lean for your taste? Then consider our new EXFIL-80 bag. Our biggest universal-fit travel and utility bag is built to haul everything, including ass. EXFIL-80 boasts enough straps and attachment points to allow custom installation on any motorcycle imaginable, but it fits especially well on choppers with sissy bars. Get clever with those straps and the EXFIL-80 will attach securely to XR400s, Dynas and FXRs. EXFIL-80 boasts enough interior volume in its main compartment to hold 80 12-oz. beer cans—just under three cubic feet of weather-resistant storage. Once mounted the EXFIL-80’s padded exterior panel gives your aching back a place to rest. Zip open that backrest to reveal multiple smaller compartments and a tool organizer. EXFIL-80 chassis is constructed with heavy-duty nylon and features ballistic grade straps, buckles and hardware for a lifetime of durability.
