3. A help to the Board would be the Utilization of David Doppler our new handyman and a most capable and knowledgeable individual, to work with the Board to accomplish some of the hands on operational requirements. This would also reduce outside vendor inflated costs. 4. Lastly the present Board of Trustees have agreed to stay on the Board, at least one more term or finish their present terms. 5. We require an immediate homeowner replacement Trustee for Frank Lary, which is most critical. Please give me a call.

IRS WARNS OF PHONE SCAM The IRS is warning the public about a phone scam that targets people across the nation. Callers claiming to be from the IRS tell intended victims they owe taxes and must pay using a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer. The scammers threaten those who refuse to pay with arrest, deportation or loss of a business or driver’s license.

In 2014 we will be staining the decks. The Board has selected a new stain which is a "pigmented" stain. In the selection process we used Bill Oncay's deck as he needed some new boards replaced and wanted to do the work himself. (Thanks Bill.) The stain worked as well on the old and new boards, which is what we were looking to accomplish--no more waiting for new boards to season before staining--they can be stained immediately. We will have Dave do the staining--some decks may need to be cleaned before staining, which Dave will do. This process will start as soon as weather permits--could be as early as April--so I ask that deck furniture used, be at a minimum so that when advised when your deck will be scheduled, there won't be a lot of things to remove. All decks will be stained with the new stain in order to maintain continuity of color. Per the Board Of Trustee's.

Olde Canal Village Office of Trustee Olde Canal Village is governed by a set of documents called the Master Deed and the Declaration of Trust. We have all agreed to live by that set of rules. If you haven’t read it, you should. The following statements are from the Declaration of Trust. Everyone here should have a copy. The issue is that OCV is required to have five Trustees at all times. The Trustees we have now have held their offices for a long time. They’re beginning to look for a break. They’ve done a great but now it is time for someone else to step up and volunteer to serve a term or two. When I say we are required to have five Trustees, this is what can happen if we don’t. 1. We can have a special election and elect a qualified resident who has volunteered to run. Terms are three years. See Declaration of Trust, Article III, Section 3.1.1 2. A resident homeowner can be appointed by a vote of the ownership that exceeds 50% of the BI. Declaration of Trust, Article III, Section 3.1.2,B 3. A resident homeowner can be appointed by a simple majority vote of the remaining Trustees. Declaration of Trust, Article III, Section 3.1.2,B 4. A resident homeowner can be appointed by the court. Declaration of Trust Article III, Section 3.1.2.C In order for any condominium to work, there needs to be people that will step up and do their share. We all share in this venture equally. From what I’ve seen, it’s anything but equal.

Welcome to Olde Canal Village Have a nice day.

John Trombert, the designated cook at the summer barbeque, received complaints that the chicken took too long to cook. This year John is prepared. He took the engine out of that red vintage car of his and supercharged the grill. Trust me, it won’t take too long this year!

There’s a section on the OCV web site called Useful Links. It’ s just what it sounds like. Any Internet links I thing would be of interest I include in this section at the lower left of the screen. It’s here that I put links to the Uxbridge Senior Center. You can read their Newsletter and see the monthly luncheon menus. There lunch is fantastic. Bring $3 with you for a donation. If they have upcoming events, it’s best to find them in the Senior Center Newsletter.

f you’re looking for a safe and legal place to dispose of used CFLs or batteries, don’t look to your State or local government for a solution. Go to Lowes. Free of charge, Lowes offers people a place to dispose of their compact florescent lamps and their batteries. Place them in a provided free bag and drop them in the slot. That’s all there is to it. FYI, the MassDEP doesn’t know what to do with them.

One of the greener residents at OCV has gone house to house gathering hazardous waste that folks have been storing in their basements. He is on his way to Lowes to safely dispose of them before the next full moon when people will steal their way to the Blackstone Canal and toss the stuff into the river. And who could blame them?

FYI, Aspirin lasts a really long time in your medicine chest for years, (when it gets old, it smells like vinegar) If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night. The reason: Aspirin has a 24-hour "half-life"; therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the Aspirin would be strongest in your system.
