Cerantola Ready To Step it Up – Aims for Deputy Mayor Gary Cerantola has filed papers to run for Deputy Mayor in the October Wasaga Beach Municipal Elections. Cerantola, Chair of the Wasaga Beach Short Film Festival says he has the experience and the skills to make the difference and wants to help set a course for Wasaga Beach that will truly make the Beach a preferred place in which to live, work and play. Cerantola describes his platform as Vision Driven Change in three areas; 1) Making Wasaga Beach a Better Place for Business 2) Sustainability in terms of focusing on the economic, social and environmental aspects of managing the town responsibly and 3) Good Governance in terms of accountability and transparency of Council and the Town and working with our partners Ontario Parks and surrounding communities in a progressive way to drive the local tourism economy and take the speed bumps out of the process. Gary says this town needs an older adult strategic plan to prepare ourselves for serving our citizens. He goes on to say that 62% of the Beach population is 55 and older. We need the infrastructure to attract younger families to support the services that will be needed in the future. Gary is a chemist H.BSc., professional engineer P.Eng., consultant and university and college educator with an MBA. Gary has sales, marketing, engineering and operating experience in telecommunication networks, water treatment, electric power generation and distribution, municipal sustainability planning, sustainable buildings, LEED certification, management, operations and maintenance.

$9,878,136 Goal Reached for CGMHF An exciting announcement by Walter Borthwick, Chair of the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital Foundation that the campaign had successfully raised $9,878,136 for vital technology not funded by the government. “Our community has given so very generously to this campaign,” Borthwick said. “We worked with the Hospital to firm up the purchase prices of the remaining pieces of equipment. We are confident that all the equipment and technology we set out to purchase can be acquired with the funds raised.” The funds raised to date by the New Age of Care are sufficient to accomplish all that we set out to do,” says Borthwick. “Because the Hospital leadership has done such a superb job of negotiating the purchase contracts, we know that we can meet all of the campaign goals with the $9.8 million raised to date. Our small community has accomplished an amazing feat. Our Hospital has state of the art diagnostic equipment and we are implementing leading edge technology with the Electronic Medical Record. It is therefore time to acknowledge and celebrate the generous support of our donors that have helped us achieve our vision for a New Age of Care. We offer a huge thank you to every single person, business and community group that helped us reach our goal.”

Look what I saw opposite a home for sale this morning: The Hoit Family on 70th Street in Wasaga Beach are certainly getting into the spirit of Snowman Mania.
