Mission

The Bikuben Foundation’s work is based upon a firm belief in the significance of art and assists professional artists and culture institutions in seeking new approaches and in realising their potential

PAGE 12

The significance of art • The Bikuben Foundation’s view on art is defined on the premise that art neither can nor should be valued from a utility-value perspective • Art need not necessarily to be used for a specific purpose, but may be used for many different purposes • Art may generate new insights and reflection – on own life and on the surrounding world • Art may represent space for sense perception, tell a story or generate debate. Thus, art does not have one single defined purpose, but many • With its focus on the significance of art, the Bikuben Foundation’s view on art is positioned in continuation of the central, professional players within the field of art and culture and, thus, clearly acts independently of the political agenda of changing governments PAGE 13

The Bikuben Foundation’s work is based upon a firm belief in the individual being’s resources and provides socially disadvantaged young people on the edge of society with an opportunity to go new ways and realise their potential

PAGE 17

Young people on the edge • When the Bikuben Foundation uses the concept ”young people on the edge”, we refer to young people who live on the edge of society’s central scenes of life, namely family/networks, job, education, and leisure life • Their vulnerability may comprise diverse social issues that may exert an impact across scenes of life. All depending on the young individual’s capacity for controlling his or her own situation within the various aernas, the young individual may, moreover, be at risk of being ”on the edge” of the separate arenas of life. • They may, for instance, be young homeless, unaccompanied refugees or criminal young people
