Think about something which happened recently that did not go the way you wanted or planned. Describe it below.

Think of two positive things that came out of this situation.

PR

Did you learn anything? Did something else happen as a result of this, which was positive?

Pick someone outside of your immediate family and friends. Write them a letter and let them know how grateful you are for what they do for you and your community. For example, you could pick a teacher, a neighbor, a police officer, a firefighter, a mail carrier, a garbage collector or anyone else. Cut the letter out and mail or hand it to them personally!

How to create your own Gratitude Calendar

IE

Cut out the title "My Gratitude Calendar" and the frames for all 12 months.

EV

Each month, either draw a picture or glue on a photo that describes something you are grateful for that month.Â

PR

Tape your title and frames to a wall or a poster board. At the end of the year, you will have 12 wonderful memories you were grateful for!

You can also create a Gratitude Calendar for your entire family or classroom! copyright big life journal - biglifejournal.com

EFFECTIVE WAYS

to raise a GRATEFUL CHILD 1 Share a gratitude journal for 30 days

EV

IE

W

Listing out a few things we are grateful for each day can have a positive impact on our mood, attitude, and relationships. Each day, list three to five things you are grateful for. Share with each other or just ask your child once in a while, “How do you feel after you’ve written what you are grateful for?”

2 Notice and savor the small stuff We can help our children become noticers of the good by...

PR

pausing to notice and “take in” the beauty of a sunset. appreciating a stranger holding the door open for you and your child. stopping to admire a vibrant tree in the park. listening to birds sing early in the morning.

3 Write a gratitude letter Take some time to sit down with your child and write a gratitude letter to a family member or anyone else. Don’t go for perfection – go for authenticity. You and your child might not only make someone’s day, you may also make their life! 36 biglifejournal.com
