Nasceu em 1951 em Vereeniging, Transvaal, África do Sul. Freqüentou oJohannesburg College of Art (mais tarde denominado Technikon Witwaterstrand) de 1970 a 1974. Fez bacharelado em técnicas de impressão, em 1980, e mestrado em escultura, em 1984, na Technikon Witwatersrand, onde é professor de arte. 1970 to 1974; is an art teacher; was granted in 1980 the Technikon Witwatersrand National Higher Diploma in Fine Arts (Printmaking), and in 1984 the Technikon Witwatersrand Masters Diploma in Technology in Fine Art (Sculpture). Study visits to Austria and Germany in 1982 and in 1993 went to England, Wales and Scotland.
