Crowners After bottles have been filled with beer, they are transferred to the Crowner. The purpose of this machine is to close and seal filled bottles to protect and preserve their contents. This is done by crimping crowns onto the bottles.

There are 2 types of crowns used to close and seal filled bottles. They are: PRY-OFF crowns

TWIST-OFF crowns

These are used to close and seal returnable bottles only

These are used to close and seal non-returnable bottles

What are the differences between pry-off and twist-off crowns? 1.

Twist-off crowns have arrows printed on them, showing consumers which direction to turn the crowns to open bottles.

2.

The inner liners of twist-off crowns are transparent and have an element of “slip”, enabling it to be twisted off. The inner liners of Pry-off crowns are white and “ tacky” (non-slip).

3.

Pry-off crowns have an outer-lip sealing while twist-off crowns have an inner-lip sealing. PRY-OFF Crown

As can be seen from the diagram below, the vessels being cleaned are connected to the CIP unit and each other by means of flexible hoses. The water and cleaning and sanitising agents are pumped through the hoses, into the vessels and circulated through the entire cycle to ensure that the equipment is sufficiently cleaned and sanitised. Replace the Ink Bottle of the Alpha Dot Date Coder

When conducting Pre-start Checks, the ink level of the Ink Bottle must be checked. If the ink level is low the Ink Bottle must be replaced before the Line is started.

Switch the Date Coder off by pressing the Power Switch.

Unlock the Base Unit by turning the Door Catch Ring clockwise.

Press the Pressure Release Valve to depressurise the Ink Bottle.



Loosen the Bottle Cap off of the empty Ink Bottle.



Remove the empty Ink Bottle from the Base Unit.

Remove the Bottle Cap from the new Ink Bottle.



Place the Ink Bottle in the Base Unit.



Push the Air and Ink Probes into the holes of the new Ink Bottle, being sure to puncture the seals.

Notice that the Probes have different diameters which must be aligned with the holes in the Ink Bottle, otherwise damage will result if the cap is forced on.



Tighten the Bottle cap onto the new Ink Bottle.



Rearrange the Air and Ink Tubes so that when the door is shut they will not be trapped in the door mechanism.



Switch the Date Coder on, activating the Air Pump.



Check the Bottle Cap for leaks.



Close the Base Unit door and turn the Door Catch Ring anti-clockwise.

Prime and purge the Alpha Dot Date Coder

1.

Priming the system

On initial installation, and whenever the Ink Bottle is replaced, air will be trapped in the Ink Supply Tube. In order to remove the air you will need to prime the system.

Switch off the Alpha Dot Date Coder.

Disconnect the Ink Supply Tube from the Base Unit.

Switch on the Alpha Dot Date Coder. This will activate the Air Pump.

Press the tip of the QD Ink Connector against the inside of an empty container. This will release air and ink out of the Ink Supply Tube.

Once all the air has been expelled from the Tube, connect the QD Ink Connector to the Print Head Unit.

2.

Purging the Print Head

Priming the system expels trapped air from the Ink Supply Tube. Purging the Print Head continues the process, expelling trapped air and particles from the Ink Feed System inside the Print Head Unit itself.

Hold an empty container at an angle in front of the Nozzle Plate.

Press the PURGE Key.

Briefly cover the Photocell to begin purging.

Continue the purge until all the Jets in the Nozzle Plate are firing consistently.

Press the ENTER Key to end the purge.

Wipe the Nozzle Plate clean with a clean lint free cloth.

The functions of the operating controls

The functions of the operating controls on the Centralised CIP System are as follows:

1 Cycle Complete Indicator Light When this Cycle Complete Indicator Light comes on it means that the selected CIP process cycle is complete.

2 Caustic Low Indicator Light The Caustic Low Indicator Light comes on when the strength of the Caustic Solution in the Caustic Tank is less than 1.5%.

3 Alarm Indicator Light If the strength of the Caustic Solution is less than 1.5%, an Alarm will sound to notify the Operator of the problem. The Alarm Indicator Light comes on when the Alarm is sounding.
