Freelance Assignment #2 Reflection The website I pitched to for the second freelance assignment was, just like the last assignment. The posting that I pitched to was a magazine looking for a writer to prepare articles about health food snacks that are gluten free, high in fiber, and organic. I decided to pitch to it because I am very involved in healthy eating and felt that I would be a good fit for the job. I pitched an idea about articles involving health food and gave an example about a gluten free, high fiber, and organic health food snack being different nuts. Compared to the last time I pitched, I felt that this was a much more pleasant experience. I felt that it was more pleasant because I was more comfortable with what I was doing. The first time I pitched, I felt like I had no idea what I was doing! It was easier this time because I knew more about what I was doing. I felt more confident in what I was writing and a tad bit more competitive, as well. I feel that I learned much more from this experience. I was more comfortable with my pitch and that truly helped. After reading the Slaunwhite and Ragland textbooks more over the past two weeks, it has helped me to build more confidence and truly understand how to pitch and become a better freelance writer. I am looking forward to doing more freelance assignments and hopefully being hired to write for at least one of them! I have not received word back from the magazine editor regarding writing this article yet, but that does not bother me. I am content with being more comfortable with my freelance writing and realize that I have much more to work on before I can be successful! I have always been one to say that it takes many “no’s” to obtain one “yes” so I am not discouraged whatsoever!

Query/Pitch Letter

Dear Mr. Johnston, When I saw this posting, one vital health food snack came to mind. It's easy, gluten free, organic, high in fiber, and CHEAP! If you haven't guessed it yet, I'll tell you. NUTS! Surprisingly, fiber deficiency is common in many humans on a daily basis. A cup of almonds, peanuts, or pecans as a daily snack can get you where you need to be. In a gluten-free diet, we unfortunately lose a lot of our daily fiber. Nuts are the answer to maintaining a healthy fiber intake, sustaining a gluten-free diet, and they are organic, easy to find, and cheap! I can write about many other health food snacks as well, being I am on a gluten-free diet. I feel that I have the experience that you are looking for and would be honored to write for you. I look forward to working with you, Bree Huizenga
