Sometimes, box cake is just so easy to turn to when you’ve forgotten someone’s birthday and you’re in a rush to bake… (Oops!) What I don’t like about box cake, other than feeling lazy for using it, is that it just does not taste the same. It never turns out as rich a luscious as bakery cake, but I found a way to make that happen! This week I found a way to make box cake taste like bakery cake and it totally worked! I made a yellow cake with chocolate frosting and it was DELICIOUS! Cake Ingredients: 1 box store bought cake mix Add one more egg than the box recipe calls for Instead of water, use milk Use melted butter instead of vegetable oil and double the amount that the box calls for Chocolate Frosting Ingredients: 3 teaspoons vanilla 6 cups sifted powdered sugar 6 tablespoons cocoa powder ½ cup milk 1 cup butter or margarine (softened) This recipe is incredibly easy! Just mix together all of the cake ingredients and follow the bake times that the box suggests. (It varies with different ovens, show poke a toothpick in the center to double check if it is ready.) While the cake is cooling, mix up your frosting and you are ready to frost! After I frosted the cake I even sliced up a few strawberries and garnished the cake with them. My dressed up box cake was a huge hit with the birthday girl on Monday night!
