Officer Application - Introduction Belleville High School FBLA 2014-2015 Application Overview Officers of FBLA are the foundation of the organization. Each officer has a duty to perform that is vital to the management of the entire chapter. Students who are passionate about the organization are highly encouraged to run for office. Officers must be leaders. They must be organized, responsible, and hardworking. As an officer, you are required to attend every general chapter meeting, unless you are absent or otherwise excused. Additionally, you will attend additional officer meetings to prepare for the general meetings. You will also be given projects to work on outside of school, and will have more work to do depending on your position. Being an officer requires a lot of time and work, and only serious students should apply for a position.

Application Procedure Members are allowed to apply for more than one position. However, they must be willing to accept the responsibilities that come with each position they apply for. Members should print out the general officer application form and fill it out. The supplement for each additional office must be handed in with the general application form. Each applicant must also submit a resume that describes their involvement in FBLA. The resume should not exceed more than 2 pages and can include years in the club, any leadership positions held, committees worked on, etc. As an example, if a member is applying for Historian and Reporter, they will hand in the general application form, historian supplement, reporter supplement, and their FBLA resume. All applications should be turned in by the specified deadline. All applicants for the office of President that make it past the first round of screening will be scheduled for a mandatory interview on Tuesday, June 3th. All applicants must attend the final meeting on June 10th. Any questions regarding the application should be directed to an advisor or to Emily Ramos.

Structure & Positions President The president is the highest leader in FBLA. It is the president’s responsibility to serve as a liaison between the advisers, the officer team, and the general membership. The president is responsible for delegating duties to other officers and ensuring that all scheduled projects are completed. The officer works with the advisors to schedule general meetings, officer meetings, and additional officer conference calls. The president serves as the head of FBLA, and thus represents the entire club at Belleville. The president must work to maintain an active membership, be willing to help all members, and ensure membership development. The president plans and organizes all general meetings, presides at all meetings, and creates agendas for all meetings. Lastly, the president manages any crises that arise throughout the year. The position is demanding and requires a tremendous amount of hard work, but is truly rewarding. Executive Vice President The Executive Vice President assists the President and other officers throughout the year. In the absence of the president, the Executive Vice President assumes his/her duties. The Executive Vice President works to increase communication amongst members, develops creative social opportunities for members, establishes methods for increasing membership, and assists with the completion of State and National 1


FBLA programs, such as promoting the annual State Leadership Conference, ensuring Belleville’s participation in state events and competitions, and working to fulfill the goals of the entire organization. Vice President of Community Service The Vice President of Community Service is responsible for directing the community service projects for the chapter. This person will come up with, organize, and manage new community service projects. This position requires a creative candidate who is able to organize and manage projects efficiently. Community service is a very important part of the organization, and this position comes with great responsibility. Treasurer The treasurer receives and acts as a custodian of chapter funds. The treasurer writes receipts for all members when payments are collected. This officer must keep an accurate count and roster of the chapter membership and collects all membership dues. The treasurer will assist advisors when financial deposits are made. The treasurer must be very organized, diligent, and able to accurately account for all financial transactions. The treasurer will also be in charge of funding for the chapter. Secretary The Secretary is vital in keeping the chapter organized. The secretary takes accurate minutes and attendance at every general chapter meeting. Therefore, attendance is especially important for this officer. The secretary is also responsible for updating and managing the club’s point system. The secretary must be reliable, organized, and hardworking. Publicity Director The publicity director is responsible for keeping accurate records of club activities and increasing FBLA’s publicity and communication. They will be in charge of social media, including the website. The publicity director should be equipped in photography, should be able to communicate efficiently, and known how to function and code the website. Roles of the publicity director will include writing updating the FBLA bulletin board/display case, communicating meeting dates to the membership, submitting Belleville High School’s Scrapbook in competition for the State Leadership Conference, keeping accurate records of all club events, and updating the website. Webmaster The Webmaster is responsible for maintaining the website and making sure members are updated with what is going on in the chapter. They are responsible for updating the dates of meeting and publicizing the chapter’s events. They must be very familiar with maintenance of a website.

Only one form needs to be filled out regardless of the number of positions one is applying for. Applications must be turned in by 11:59 p.m on Tuesday, May 27th to an officer, an adviser, or emailed to bhs.fbla@aol.com.
