Mr Albert’s Big Finish! A Fun show for all the family 8th of August at The Met, Abertillery 11am and 2pm Ticket prices: TBC Magic Carpet Theatre are coming to The Met in Abertillery with their brilliant new show Mr Albert’s Big Finish, suitable for 5 - 11 year olds and their families. Mr Albert’s Big Finish is a fast moving, colourful, and highly visual show. It combines active audience participation, magical illusions, physical theatre and circus skills with the acting and comedy skills of the Magic Carpet team. If you like funny stories, magic, juggling, comedy and joining in you’ll love Mr Albert’s Big Finish! Do you want to have fun and make new friends this summer, then come along to one of our Dance Summer Schools, Beaufort Ballroom (Juniors) or The Met, Abertillery (Seniors) Spend a whole week learning new dance moves, work on your dance technique, create a dance piece with full guidance from tutors and then perform on stage. Each day will run from 10am – 4pm, with a short performance of the dances created on Friday evening. Commencing 30th July 2012 World Breast Feeding Week – Breast Feeding and Weaning advise, Baby Massage Tasters, Language and Play, Dental Advice, Health Eating Tips and Ideas. Commencing 6th August 2012 2012 London Olympics – Sports, Games, Team Building Exercises, Exploring Countries and Cultures from around the World. Commencing 13th August 2012 International Youth Day………… Being a Teenager in 2012 Commencing 20th August 2012 When I grow up I want to be…………. Fun and informative ways of exploring jobs and careers. Saving Advice and Tips for all the Family. There are over 500,000 people with autism in the UK - that's 1 in 100. Together with their families, that's over two million people whose lives are touched by autism every single day. The next NAS Blaenau Gwent Branch meeting will be held on Wednesday May 9th 11am - 1pm at the Heart of the Valleys ICC, Blaina Greame Harkness (founding director of Ebbw Vale campus) will be addressing the group about the new school on the works site at Ebbwvale. Wednesday June 13th 11am - 1pm ICC Blaina - Damian McCann ASD Lead will be addressing the group. We hold our group meetings every 2nd Wednesday of the month at the ICC always 11am - 1pm We will also be fundraising by taking part in the NAS' annual Trainwalk on Saturday 2nd June....time and place are yet to be decided. Barnardo’s Blaenau Gwent provides a Support with Leisure service to disabled children and young people up to the age of 18. Sessional workers support these children/young to access a range of leisure and social opportunities while working on set outcomes such as ‘increased independence’ and ‘improved peer relationships’. This service is accessed through a referral from the Children with Disabilities Team (Social Services). For more information please contact your social worker.


Join Blaenau Gwent Libraries for this summer’s Reading Challenge, and you will set off on an imaginative adventure that knows no bounds! Step into Story Lab, a hi-tech HQ that attracts stories from all over the world and sends them spinning throughout the city – and beyond. For the Summer Reading Challenge, Prof Cortex, the Story Lab’s on board computer, has asked the Story Lab kids to recover three lost items to boost the imagination of the Story Lab. Read 6 books throughout the summer and collect stickers and free gifts, to help the Story Lab kids complete each stage. When you finish the challenge you will receive a certificate and medal, and your name will be entered into a prize draw.

Registered Holiday Childcare A recent survey of over 1000 parents living and working in Blaenau Gwent showed a demand for Finding the right quality and quantity of childcare is essential for parents to be able to work and train or in the case of many parents of children with disabilities or special needs, just have respite time. new childcare arrangements or activities to keep children busy. Many families are helped out by grandparents and other relatives but the number of parents using registered quality childcare, especially holiday clubs run by childcare professionals, and childminders is soaring in Blaenau Gwent.

Availability

The number of holiday childcare places in Blaenau Gwent have quadrupled in the last 5 years. There are now holiday clubs available in each town in Blaenau Gwent as well as other forms childcare solutions for the holiday period. Parents and children are now realising the fun and to their childcare problems. Last year children in our holiday clubs had a summer of fun – hunting dragons, super-tubing, having animal road shows, making pizzas at Domino’s, going to rock school, samba drumming etc.

There are many schemes available within Blaenau Gwent to help with the cost of childcare, from Working Tax Credit Childcare Element to the Blaenau Gwent Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership Assisted Places Schemes.
